"I'm back."
A brief message on the mobile screen left Victoria frozen in place for a long time.
Sarah said she's back.
Victoria was keenly aware of what this woman's return implied.
It seemed that the days ahead wouldn't be so peaceful.
Maybe she was too absorbed in the message, she didn't even notice the footsteps behind her until he snatched the phone from her hand, "Who gave you permission to touch my phone?"
"Sarah is back?" Victoria looked at the man before her with a half-smile.
Stephen, her husband of three years.
"Does it have anything to do with you, Victoria? Don't forget why I married you in the first place!" Stephen had always been discontent with Victoria, even to the point of resentment.
Victoria was well aware of this.
After all these years, he never truly treated her as his wife, he had married her only to repay a debt.
Though filled with melancholy, Victoria spoke in an unconcerned tone, "Of course I remember. If it weren't for my father dying to save your grandmother, you would never have obeyed your family and married me."
Giving her an indifferent glance, Stephen said, "Since you know, just play your role as Mrs Fu in name and stop poking your nose into my private affairs!"
Play her role as Mrs Fu?
Now that Sarah was back, she wondered whether her position as Mrs Fu was still secure!
Thinking of this, the sarcasm in Victoria's words became even more apparent: "Since you married me, yet you still have lingering connections with other women. Don't you think it's a bit excessive?"
"Excessive?" A rare anger appeared on Stephen's usually calm face. He forcefully gripped her chin and stared at her stunning face: "For the position of Mrs. Fu, you forced Sarah to go abroad. Do you know what kind of life she is leading now?"
A few months ago, he happened to travel to the city where Sarah lived and saw her.
The current misery of Sarah made his resentment towards Victoria even stronger.
"What kind of life she leads, does it have anything to do with me? Stephen, don't you know your judgement of women is very poor?" Victoria scoffed. Even though her chin was being held painfully, she didn't struggle at all.
"Do you even have the qualification to comment on Sarah's good or bad? Don't forget how dirty you are!" In Stephen's eyes, there was an obvious fury.
Indeed, in his eyes, she was nothing more than an unclean woman.
Even though she was insulted by Stephen, Victoria didn’t show any sorrow. On the contrary, she laughed gracefully: "Even if I'm dirty, didn't you touch me anyway, Mr. Woods? Do you like to love'em and leave'em? Weren’t you trying so hard just now?"
This smile from Victoria made Stephen's face darken to the extreme. Like pushing away trash, he shoved Victoria to the ground: "Get lost!"no
Immediately after, the man left the room.
In the silence, Victoria hung her head and smiled bitterly: "In this world, the hardest to warm up might be your heart, Stephen."
The argument that night, along with that text message, caused Victoria to lose sleep.
When she woke up the next day, her head was heavy and clouded. Yet, forcing herself up from the bed, she had to get to work.
Recently, her company had recommended her to participate in the Charm Wedding Dress Design Competition along with a few other designers.
Her lifelong dream was to become the best wedding dress designer.
Yet, she herself has never worn a bridal gown.
Ironically, isn't it?
"Good morning, Designer Johnson."
"Good morning." After arriving at the office, Victoria greeted her coworkers with a smile.
As she made her way towards the elevator, suddenly, everything before her went black, and her body uncontrollably fell backwards.
She had thought that she would fall onto the floor, however, she instead fell into a pair of warm arms.
