簡介
Luna Everly never imagined her nineteenth birthday would tear her entire life apart. Standing before the whole Moonridge Pack, Alpha Kael Draven stared down at her with cold, unfeeling eyes. "I, Kael Draven, reject you as my mate." In a single breath, Luna lost her dignity, her home, and the pack’s protection. But right before she turned to leave, the impossible happened. A jet-black crescent mark burned into existence across her wrist. And Kael saw it. For the first time, the ruthless Alpha’s stoic face drained completely pale. That was no ordinary mate mark—it was the ancient symbol of a bloodline believed to have been extinct for centuries. Luna fled into the night, unaware that Kael’s rejection was built on a massive lie. Days later, when the Moonridge Pack comes under attack, Luna returns. No longer the weak, helpless girl they used to mock, she is beginning to awaken a terrifying power—one that even the strongest Alphas cannot comprehend. Meanwhile, Kael is forced to face a brutal truth: rejecting Luna might be the biggest mistake of his life. Yet, there is one secret even Luna doesn't know. Kael didn't reject her because he didn't love her. He rejected her because if the world ever finds out who she really is... they will kill her.

The Grand Hall of the Moonridge Pack was suffocating, thick with the heavy scent of pine, fresh blood, and raw power. Tonight was the Night of the Silver Moon—the sacred ceremony where nineteen-year-olds finally discovered their fated mates.

For as long as I could remember, I had been an outcast in this very room. A weak, half-blood wolf whose beast couldn’t even fully surface, leaving me with nothing more than faint physical enhancements and a target on my back.

"Keep your head down, Luna," a guard hissed, shoving my shoulder as I stepped toward the glowing stone altar at the center of the hall.

I swallowed the lump in my throat, my pulse hammering against my ribs. I didn't care about power or status. I just wanted a quiet life. I wanted a mate, anyone, even an Omega—who would look at me with warmth instead of the cold disgust I had endured for nineteen years.

Then, the air in the room shifted.

The ambient chatter vanished instantly. The oppressive pressure of an Apex predator flooded the hall, so heavy it forced several low-ranking wolves to drop to their knees.

Alpha Kael Draven.

He descended the marble staircase, looking less like a man and more like a myth sculpted from shadows and stone. At twenty-four, Kael was the youngest, most ruthless Alpha Moonridge had seen in a century.

Broad shoulders, sharp cheekbones, and eyes the color of molten silver. His dark hair fell slightly over his forehead, masking a face that rarely showed a shred of emotion.

My lungs seized. The moment his gaze swept over the crowd, a jolt of pure electrical current tore through my chest.

Mate.

The word echoed in my mind, violent and undeniable. The scent of ozone, rain, and dark cedar invaded my senses. My wolf, dormant and quiet for years, suddenly thrashed against my ribs, desperate to reach him.

Kael stopped at the bottom of the stairs. His silver eyes locked onto mine.

For a fraction of a second, I saw it—a flash of raw, agonizing pain in the depths of his eyes. But before I could even register it, his expression hardened into a wall of absolute ice.

The elders whispered frantically behind him. Elder Ronan stepped forward, his eyes gleaming with malicious satisfaction.

"Alpha Kael. It seems the Moon Goddess has spoken. The bond points to ... her."

A wave of low giggles and hushed insults rippled through the hall.

"Luna? The weakling?"

"She can't even shift!"

"A pathetic half-blood as our Luna? Is this a joke?"

I stood frozen under the weight of a hundred mocking eyes, my heart pounding like a trapped bird. I looked at Kael, silently begging him—not for love, but just for a shred of humanity. Please. Don't do this here.

Kael took three slow, deliberate steps toward me. Each step felt like a heavy drumbeat of impending doom. He towered over me, his shadow completely swallowing my smaller frame.

He didn't reach out to touch me. He didn't lean in to catch my scent.

He just stared down at me, his eyes dead and unreadable.

"Alpha Kael." I whispered, my voice trembling so hard it barely carried across the space between us.

"Please ...."

Kael raised his hand, gesturing to the entire hall. The room fell into a dead, suffocating silence. Every noble, guard, and elder held their breath, waiting for the leader of the northern packs to speak.

When he opened his mouth, his voice was smooth, deep, and utterly devoid of warmth.

"I, Kael Draven, Alpha of the Moonridge Pack, reject you, Luna Everly, as my mate."

Crack.

It felt as though a physical blade had been driven straight into my heart and twisted. The mate bond violently snapped, sending a wave of agony crashing through my nervous system. I staggered backward, clutching my chest as tears instantly pooled in my eyes. My wolf let out a desolate, heartbroken wail inside my mind before slumping into total silence.

"A wise decision, Alpha!" Elder Ronan’s voice boomed, breaking the tension.

"A weakling cannot bear the mantle of a Luna!"

Scoffs and cruel laughter broke out among the pack members. Selene, the daughter of a neighboring Alpha, stepped into Kael's shadow, a triumphant smile plastered across her face.

Kael didn't look at her. He didn't look at anyone. He kept his eyes locked on mine as I fell to my knees on the cold marble floor, gasping for air, clutching my burning chest.

"Get up, Luna," Kael said coldly, his voice echoing over the quieted crowd.

"Pack law dictates that a rejected mate must relinquish all claims to the pack territory by sunrise. You leave tonight."

"Tonight?" I gasped, looking up through a blur of tears. "Kael ... it's storming outside. I have nowhere to go—"

"You leave tonight," he repeated, turning his back on me without a single trace of hesitation.

Humiliation burned hotter than the physical pain in my chest. I forced myself to stand, my legs shaking, refusing to let them see me break any further. I wiped the tears from my face, turned my head high, and began walking toward the heavy oak exit doors.

Cruel whispers followed my every step. Someone threw a chalice of dark wine, splashing the hem of my cheap white dress. I didn't stop. I kept walking, every step a agonizing reminder that I was now truly alone in the world.

Just as my hand touched the brass handle of the front door, an unbearable heat burst beneath the skin of my right wrist.

It felt like someone had pressed a white-hot iron directly against my flesh.

"Aah!"

I cried out, collapsing against the door as my vision turned white from sudden, blinding pain.

The heat flared, spreading up my arm like liquid fire. The air in the Grand Hall suddenly grew heavy, static electricity crackling so loudly that the crystal chandeliers overhead began to vibrate and hum.

"What is that?" someone shouted from the back.

I gripped my right wrist with my left hand, gasping as smoke literally began to rise from my skin. The burning sensation peaked, and then, as quickly as it had started, the pain vanished—leaving behind a glowing, midnight-black mark.

It wasn't a standard wolf mark. It wasn't the pack crest.

It was a jagged, obsidian crescent moon encircled by three sharp, burning stars.

The heavy silence returned to the room, heavier and far more terrifying than before. The temperature in the hall plunged so fast that my breath turned into visible mist.

Footsteps rushed toward me.

Before I could react, a rough hand grabbed my arm and yanked my wrist upward. I looked up, terrified, only to find Kael standing over me.

The cold, ruthless Alpha was gone. His face had drained completely pale, his jaw slackened, and his silver eyes were blown wide with pure, unadulterated horror. His hand trembled violently as his fingers brushed the edge of the black mark.

"No." Kael whispered, his voice cracking for the first time in his life.

"No, no, no ... this is impossible."

"Get off me!" I tried to pull my arm back, but his grip was like a vice.

"You rejected me! You don't get to touch me!"

Kael didn't seem to hear me. He was staring at the black crescent as if he were looking at a ghost. He stepped closer, leaning in so close his lips nearly touched my ear, his breath hitching in his throat.

"Where did you get this mark, Luna?" he hissed in a frantic, desperate whisper that no one else could hear.

"Answer me! Who was your mother?"

Before I could answer, the heavy stained-glass windows at the top of the hall shattered inward with a deafening crash, showering the room in sharp glass as dark, monstrous shadows began pouring in from the stormy night sky.
