Matt was in his office completing the paperwork when Theo mindlinked him. ' Matt, I can smell a human scent from the northern border. You need to come here, fast.'
Matt quickly pushed the files aside and hurried down the corridor of packhouse. This is not good. Definitely not good.
Werewolves are predators, wild creatures. They are hidden from the world under the shadows of forests and magic. Each pack territory is located far away from human land in the depths of never-ending forests and so was the Blue Orchid pack. With over 4000 werewolves the pack easily was the biggest and most dangerous one in Rysterbia. The territory stretched over acres of land far away from the human towns and was covered by magic to protect them from other supernaturals. Therefore, Matt was surprised by the news of a human coming this close to their territory.
Matt saw Theo standing cautiously near the northern border with five other warriors. As soon as Matt neared the border, he smelled it too. A human, a strong one. The scent was strong and powerful.
Theo turned towards Matt and said in a low voice, ' The scent is strong. The human must be nearby. Alpha won't be pleased.' Matt pursed his lips and nodded. Alpha will be furious.
Matt cast a look along the border, it was getting dark. ' Theo, stay here in the territory and tell Kira to add five more warriors on this border. Mason and Zoro, you are coming with me.'
The three of them started walking in the direction from where the smell was coming from. They didn't have to walk for long. Just about two miles from the northern border, there lay a female human lying on the ground.
Matt couldn't see her face but he could definitely feel her aura. She was a little more than five feet tall. Her body was twisted at an odd angle and her long black hair was covering most of her face. The washed-up jeans she was wearing were torn in places and her black T-shirt was almost in shreds.
Matt observed all this after he noticed the most important thing. She was bitten. Matt squatted on the ground to take a closer look at her leg. Her right leg was covered in blood right from the side of her thigh. It looked nasty. Her jeans in the place where she was bitten were in pieces, blood was gushing out of the wound and it looked painful enough even for a werewolf let alone a human.
Matt turned his head slightly towards his companions and ordered them to carry her back to the pack. Yes, he thought to himself, it would be the right thing to do. Whenever a human gets bitten by a werewolf there are only two ways it could go. Either the human turns into a werewolf or he dies. The chance at survival for this woman looked pretty slim to him. The proper thing to do would be to get her inside the pack territory, try to save her life, let Kira search her up, find out how she got here and the reason behind his willingness to break the protocol for her.
It was the protocol of their pack to never let a stranger on the pack territory without their Alpha's permission. Their Alpha was very serious about the pack security. If he came to know, which he would that Matt brought this stranger into their pack without his permission, the Alpha would be furious. Matt couldn't think straight. Her scent was oddly strong. He sniffed again trying to catch anything to find a clue. He looked around the place where he found her for anything that could offer help. All he saw was a single pair of foot marks that looked like the woman's judging by the size of her shoe.
On their way back to the pack, Matt mindlinked Dr. Humphrey to be ready for a human patient. They almost reached their boundary when Zoro spoke up, ' Please tell me you can feel it too. There is something strange with her scent. I can't smell a wolf but her aura feels stronger than an average human.'
Matt let out a quiet sigh at his words. Thank God, I am not the only one who can feel this. ' No, you are not. I feel it too.' He reassured Zoro.
Dr. Humphrey was waiting at the border with a stretcher and two ward boys. As soon as they entered the territory, the woman was wheeled to the medical wing.
Matt was well aware of the tension looming in the air. There was a stranger on pack territory without their Alpha's permission and she was human. 'I don't think she would survive the bite.' Matt spoke up when Theo came to stand near him. Theo sighed and replied ' Yeah...I think so too.' They both were quiet for some time. The silence was broken when Theo let out a low frustrated groan. 'I...I don't understand Matt. How the hell is this possible? Even werewolves have trouble finding our pack territory, then how can a human that too an injured one come this close to our pack without being noticed? There are others creatures in that forest who would never let a human walk away alive. Then how is she here?' Theo was really confused.
'I don't know Theo. I don't know but what I do know is that Alpha is going to be furious. It has never happened before.' Matt sighed and started walking towards his office. It was time to inform the Alpha about the human. His stride became slow at the thought of his Alpha becoming furious. He cringed inwardly. It was never a good sight when Alpha got angry. It wasn't going to be one this time.
***********
Kira was the head warrior of the Blue Orchid Pack. Many thought that a female shouldn't be in this position. But that's how everything worked in her pack. Every pack member was given a position according to their skills and abilities. Every person received what they deserve; nothing less nothing more.
Kira had worked all her life for this position and she did receive it after she proved that she is worthy of it. It was her sharp mind and strategies that made the pack one of the safest in Rysterbia. There haven't been any attacks or violence in her term as the Head Warrior, which is why she was so confused right now. Usually, their werewolf senses enabled them to feel another being from quite a distance, especially if that being was not a werewolf. Then how come this woman reached so near her territory undetected?
Kira was pacing in the corridor of their medical wing waiting for the said woman. She wanted to see the woman who nearly breached her security. Soon she heard some commotion outside. They have arrived.
Two of the ward boys were wheeling the stretcher on which the unconscious woman lay. The first thing that Kira noticed was her Aura. It made her heart beat faster and her knees weak. Kira's eyes went wide as they wheeled the human near her. Her Aura was strong, almost as strong as their Alpha's. She watched as they took her to the emergency room. Kira couldn't see her face. It was covered with her hair and mud. She watched from the glass pane as Dr. Humphrey and his team tried to save the human. Kira wanted the human to live. She needed to know how that human came this far alive. The train of her thoughts was broken when she heard Matt's voice.
'Kira, the Alpha wants to talk to you.'
