In the outskirts of Nanshan, the Happy Orphanage was buzzing with excitement. About a dozen kids sat around a circular table, chatting away, clearly having a great time.
The director walked in, holding a ten-inch two-layer cake. The kids immediately burst into cheers. “Cake!”
She placed the cake in the center of the table and asked, “So, whose birthday is it today?”
All the children shouted in unison, “Lily Harrison!”
All eyes turned to the little girl.
She looked like a porcelain doll, fair-skinned with round cheeks, her bright eyes blinking curiously.
Lily noticed everyone staring at her. She pressed her lips together shyly, a little dimple showing on each cheek—it was the kind of cute that instantly melted hearts.
“That’s right! It’s our Lily’s third birthday today,” the director said with a smile, lighting the number “3” candle.
She picked Lily up and led the kids in singing a cheerful birthday song.
After the song, the director asked, “Lily, what do you want to wish for?”
Three months ago, this little girl had sat quietly at the orphanage gate, wearing a backpack shaped like a pig.
The director had taken her in, finding basic info about Lily inside the little piggy bag.
Her birth mother, knowing she didn’t have much time left, entrusted her daughter to the orphanage before passing.
That’s how the director knew today was Lily’s birthday.
Lily looked up at her, puzzled.
Wish?
She'd heard that word before… Oh! From Mommy!
Mommy once told her she could make a wish.
But… how exactly does one make a wish?
Patiently, the director guided her, placing Lily’s tiny hands together, “Let’s wish that Lily finds a new mommy and daddy and has a happy life with her new family.”
There was already a potential family interested in adopting her. They planned to visit the next day to finalize everything.
Lily’s long lashes fluttered like little fans. In her soft baby voice, she said, “Wish~”
The director’s version of the wish was way too long~
The flickering candlelight danced in her bright round eyes. She puckered her rosy lips, took a big breath, and blew out the candle.
“Beep, Wish System activated.”
“Connecting to Wish System 007…”
“Connection successful.”
Lily blinked, confused by the strange voice in her head.
She tilted her face up and gave the director a puzzled look.
Did her voice just… change? The director lowered her head and met Lily’s sparkly eyes. “Lily, do you want some cake? I’ll cut it for you right now.”
The second she heard “cake,” Lily’s earlier confusion vanished. She bounced in place, nodding excitedly. “Cake~ cake~”
She absolutely loved sweets—just the mention made her beam, her eyes curving into crescent moons from smiling so hard.
“Hello, Host. I am the Wish System 007. I was created by your mother, Fiona Bennett. From now on, I will accompany you as you grow up.”
But seeing Lily’s entire focus glued to the cake, 007 couldn’t help trying again.
Still, Lily was completely absorbed in munching away at her sweet slice, not responding at all.
Mommy used to say: Food is everything! Eating comes first~
Watching its tiny host happily digging into the cake, Wish System 007 could only sigh in resignation.
Finally full!
Only after the system had called her for the seventh time did Lily pat her now-round tummy and say in her soft little voice, “Lily’s not a piggy! Even though Lily’s a bit squishy, Lily’s not a pig~”
Wish System 007: …
After eating and drinking to her heart’s content, Lily suddenly froze and blinked in surprise.
Wish System 007?
That sounded super familiar!
Her face lit up as if she'd figured out a mystery. “Uncle, are you the wish uncle that Mommy talked about?”
Wish System 007 replied, “Yes, that’s me.”
“Wish Uncle, where are you hiding? I can’t see you anywhere.” Lily turned her head from side to side and looked all around curiously.
Wish System 007 explained calmly, “Host, only you can hear me. You can’t see me—I’m just a system, not something with a physical body. You can talk to me through your thoughts.”
Lily tilted her little head. ‘Thoughts’? What does that mean?
Wish System 007 answered, “That right there is your thought. You don’t need to speak out loud—I can understand you just like that.”
Kind of getting it, Lily nodded slowly, then said, “Hi Wish Uncle~ I’m Lily~ and stop calling me a piggy~”
Wish System 007: … Not that kind of pig.
Meanwhile…
Five sleek black Bentleys pulled up outside the orphanage gates.
From the passenger side of the car in the middle, a bodyguard in a black suit stepped out. He circled around to the back seat and opened the door with a respectful, “Sir, we’ve arrived.”
A tall man stepped out of the car. His features were flawless, like he’d been specially crafted to perfection.
Ethan Harrison stared up at the sign that read “Happiness Orphanage,” a subtle flicker of emotion darting through his deep gaze.
His daughter… was in there.
