There was tension in the house as voices could be heard from upstairs. What could it be about this time?
"They have to leave my house " A man's voice
Morgan Arnold
could be heard from upstairs, sounding very angry at the moment.
"I told you to send them away but you never listen to me saying they are your late brother's children, how did they repay your kindness? I can't believe they're such ungrateful fellows, after all we did for them " said another from the same room but the voice was feminine proving it was said by a woman.
" But Dad! They can't do this, I'm certain there's a little mix-up somewhere, just think about it Dad, '' Tasha said in defense of whatever must be causing such hasty moves from her father.
"Stay out of this Tasha !" the man rebuked angrily
" But Dad !" She said in a pleading voice.
"They are thieves and I can't let them stay in my house. I will do them the favor of not informing the police " he continued saying, fuming with anger.
"Love, this is not fair, let them rot in jail, you are being too lenient on those thugs," the older woman said with an angry and dissatisfied tone.
"No, Laura, we can't be this heartless. Let them go but not to prison. Even though they stole from me, they're still my late brother's children" Morgan tried to coax his wife.
"Fifty thousand! Fifty thousand dollars, I'm talking about a huge sum of money, Though we have more than that it doesn't mean we can overlook this, they still stole from us " Laura said raising her voice, She hated those boys too let this opportunity of shutting them out forever slip through her fingers.
" That amount can't affect our wealth in any way. That is nothing to us. Just overlook this; let's send them away, that's better. If they ever step their foot here we will hand them over to the police ". Morgan didn't like the idea of bringing in the police, the case might go so far to the extent, that it may involve a lawyer and they will be in trouble because the said money wasn't theirs to begin with. Something his wife doesn't understand because of her hatred for her nephews.
"Dad, they can't do this, I know them too well. They can't steal from you, trust me, Dad! " Tasha, who is very fond of her cousins, kept on defending them. She knew it might be one of those tricks her Mum usually pulls to get them in trouble because she doesn't like them.
" Go to your room!" Mr. Morgan said angrily.
" But Dad, "
" No but' s, go to your room now !" her father said, raising his voice at her.
Tasha sighed and ran out of the room with a sad expression. She hated it when her parents picked on her cousins. They were very nice to her even though their age difference was wide.
" Try to understand Laura, we can't involve the police in this because you very well know some investigations must be carried out and possibly a lawyer might get involved; Hope you know who will win if this small issue gets that far," Morgan said calmly, trying to make his wife understand.
"Bribe the police, do anything, we have influence, nothing can happen. We did this before, why can't we do this now?" Laura was short-sighted when it came to such issues, her selfishness blinded her eyes and blocked her reasoning.
"They are of age too now, they can now take over the property which rightfully belongs to them, have you forgotten?; And the worst is we both know perfectly well that they didn't take the money in question, so let's not push it, Laura " Morgan was evil to treat the children of his only brother this way. His being very lazy alongside his lazy but extra vacant wife connived to take the property of his brother and now they want to send them away.
Fear of the fact that his nephews will soon take the property that rightfully belongs to them was weighing both him and his wife down, they will have to live on the mercies of both boys. Something they both couldn't accept, because of their selfishness.
" We have been twisting things, why not this one? At least the documents are with you and they can't even lay their hands on it. I just don't want them to be let loose, they could still come back for us, Being in jail is enough to escape them. Think about it Morgan " Laura insisted, she doesn't understand why her husband is bent on letting them go, just like that. And she couldn't let that happen. Not on her watch.
"Enough Laura! Enough. We are sending them out of this house and that's final! They won't come back, trust me. I don't want to complicate things, it's better this way." Morgan was losing his cool and his stubborn wife only thinks about her benefits and not about the consequences that came along with these benefits.
"Hope you know what you are doing because if this gets out of hand and you get in trouble my daughter and I won't bear the consequences with you." She stormed out of the room, her selfishness was the death of her.
"Morgan, you got yourself a snake for a wife," Morgan said to himself. He stood for a few more minutes and shook his head, then followed his wife down the stairs.
Tasha was busy begging her cousins not to leave, she was fond of them. She knew they were innocent; she understood more than everyone that her parents were responsible for this.
"Where are those thugs? " Laura roared as she raged into their room.
"Mum!" Tasha shouted, she seriously didn't like the names her mother called them.
"Stay out of this, Tasha! " she barked at her daughter. The worst thing that could happen to her was having a daughter who couldn't be more like her, not to talk of supporting her.
"But Mum!" Tasha tried to talk.
"Go to your room or you'll be getting grounded" Laura threatened.
"No. Mum, " Tasha said, turning her back on her mother.
"Young lady, I believe your Mum has given you an instruction. Don't push me, my mood isn't cut out for care right now. Just get yourself in your room now," Morgan said walking downstairs, he was upset at the moment, his wife giving him a hard time plus he had to deal with his nephews. And if got upset with his precious daughter things might get ugly.
"Dad! Please let them stay, they didn't do it, trust me." Tasha couldn't bear seeing them being punished for something they didn't do. Plus, she was going to be lonely if they left, they shared a good bond.
"That's it! You are grounded, now go to your room immediately. " Morgan raised his voice at his precious daughter, though he was angry at his nephews but extending it to his innocent daughter was so uncalled for.
"Dad!" Tasha said, sobbing. She hates injustice and hates her parents more for not treating this matter with care.
"Tasha, upstairs now!" Morgan said angrily pointing to the stairs.
Tasha ran off still sobbing, she was really angry at the moment. The thought of her cousins being sent away for a crime they didn't commit aches her heart so much.
The two boys didn't say anything, they just stood there watching the drama.
"Where is the money you took?" Morgan asked the boys who were packing up their stuff.
They didn't say anything, they just kept on packing up their stuff. They had the same character trait, they were not good at talking, and silence was what they knew best.
"Are you trying to snub at your uncle? '' Laura hated their guts, they seemed to be very bold boys who if not tamed at this young age might grow to overthrow them and nothing will be done.
"The fact is, they are still leaving my house, responding means nothing to me," Morgan said fiercely
"We can't keep accommodating thugs. They might bring in arm rubbers." Laura said with boldness.
The boys moved past them without altering a word to them. They just left them there ranting like hypocrites that they were.
"Zane! Take this! You might need it to survive, " Morgan said, handing some cash to Zane.
"No! We can manage " Zane said without even sparing him a glance.
"What nonsense? You still have a kind heart to give them our money, after what they did to us? Come on Morgan, not handing them over to the police is enough kindness." That's how selfish Laura could be, just a little money for the boys seemed like a waste to her.
"You are never to step your feet in this mansion, never again," Morgan said coldly.
"The intention was never to come back uncle, and I promise you this, the next time we meet, you'll be paying for your crimes " Zane turned around to look at him, he knew everything but just was not ready to get back at his uncle.
"They have the guts to speak such nonsense to you and you are going to lead that slide? Let's hand them over to the police, that's a threat, Morgan," Laura was scared, she of all people should know how zealous they were. Plus she's witnessed how smart they can be.
"It's ok Laura, they won't last a month without coming back to beg for our forgiveness ." Morgan smiled as he knew that the boys would never come back. They had the same spirit as that of their father, who could go to any length to prove a point.
"When the tables turn, we'll see who has to beg for forgiveness," Tyson spoke for the first time since the drama started.
"You've got the nerve to say these things to us, Wow that's interesting, get out of my house! " Laura said furiously, she hates their courage and that's what scares her the most, they might fight back and she knows she and her husband can't win against them.
" You'll both never amount to anything. You'll roam the streets of California and no one will help you out." Morgan said looking at the boys who acted as though those words weren't meant for them.
" Your lives will probably be the most miserable ever and Morgan and I will make sure of that," Laura said to the retreating figure.
The boys left without saying any word, Tasha busy crying in her room.
"Let's celebrate, hon, we finally got rid of the pest in our lives," Laura said smiling broadly. Now she could enjoy this wealth in peace without the fear that it would be taken from her at any point.
"You can do that on your own, I'm not in, the mood," Morgan said moving upstairs.
Laura looked at the beautiful house and smiled contentedly. Finally, it all belonged to her.
