Chapter 1
“Winslette Jazz de Rossi, twenty-three years old, a college graduate of business management from a prestigious university but why did you audition here to become a singer?” one of the judges asked her.
She inhales and breathes out the air she breathes before she answers.
“Ever since I was young, I idolized my Mum, my Dad, and even my relatives because they are all great singers. And I truly love how they become well-known singers but… I know I'm not as good as they are. My siblings are also good singers, they win national competitions by singing. And I just wanted to give myself a last chance to sing and audition here before I decided to walk a different path since my family accepted me for who I am and not what they wanted me to become.” she said
“Let us hear your voice, then…” one of the judges said
And then she sings her heart out, she expects that her performance was the greatest one but then…
“I apologize, Ms. de Rossi but your voice is too deep and it did not fit our qualifications, try again next time.” the male judge concluded that make her heartbreak one more time.
“There won't be another time, Mr. judge, thank you for your time…” she said
And her loneliness appears in her deep brown eyes as she sighed her frustrations before going out off the stage. Winslette felt drained and with slumped shoulders, she walked outside of her thirtieth agency that she auditioned this week.
Her heart is empty as she walks home, she doesn't feel any hunger and her tears just fall out in her eyes in the evening while the rain starts to pour.
"No more singing for you, Winslette..." she whispers to herself as she watches the dark clouds from the sky.
“I’m home…” she said with a lonely tone and as expected. Everyones busy, she thought.
It's expected that nobody notices her presence at all in this house since all of her parents and even her siblings are busy with their schedules
But suddenly, someone bumped into her back which frustrates her even more.
“Hey! Be careful Winston!” she hissed as she held her hand on the wall as she was changing her slippers at the entrance of the door.
“Sorry, Winslette! Mum! Dad! Granny! Let me tell you something…” he excitedly said as he is removing his shoes abruptly and left them scattered on the floor.
And everyone in the house is in the receiving area waiting for his twin brother’s announcement but she chose not to listen to it because she felt that her presence was not required. And when she was in the middle of the staircase when she heard what his twin brother said the most hurtful thing that she really wanted the most in her life.
“I got scouted to become part of an idol group under Vista Star Talent Agency!!” Winston excitedly said
That caused her huge heartbreak for the very first time in her life after all the frustrations that she have faced. Despite her trying her best to achieve the best technicalities, did control her voice, and breathing exercises. It is all useless compared to his naturally gifted brother. They are twins! She is more willing to become a singer! She is disciplined! So why?! Why does her brother become part of an idol group doing more effortlessly than her?! Life is so unfair!
Since everyone becomes ecstatic about her twin brother’s announcement. No one is interested in her coming home, because all of them are busy talking, celebrating, and because of their busy schedules as professional singers. As she walks to her room, she doesn't hear any voice since all their rooms are soundproof, which is a good thing since she doesn't want anyone to see her at this time, especially since she is suffering from a heartbreak which regards his twin brother's announcement and her thirtieth rejection.
“Maybe, this is God’s way of telling me to stop pursuing singing as a career since I'm not good at it…” she whispered with a mocking laugh while looking at the things inside her room.
As she looks inside her room, she felt that slowly her heart is shattering into pieces while looking at the musical instruments, collection of cassette tapes, and many other things related to music.
And she didn't notice the tears escaping from her eyes, her nose felt runny and her under eyes felt hot. She wants to wipe it hard but for sure everyone will notice that something is happening to her, so she just rinses her eyes with cold water instead...
And after that, with tears in her eyes with no energy left in her system, she sighs as she started to rip the posters, her music sheets, she put all the things related to music and singing in a huge box.
She put her heart out as she is cleaning the room and as she is cleaning her room, her heart feels lightened up as the process of cleaning goes on. And after how many hours of cleaning the room, she felt refreshed and also surprised to see that her room is almost empty she also feels that her room has gone into a huge transformation
This is the moment that she decided to put her passion for singing aside. And since all of her musical instruments are already inside the box, she was now ready to donate them or throw them all away since her music career is over now and forever.
As looking around her room for one last time, she feels relaxed. refreshed and she also became happy a little bit. Cleaning her room is the best decision that she made for herself since it helped her to lessen her burdens a little bit.
And she walks outside of the room while carrying the boxes with her when one of her siblings bumps at her.
“Hey! Be careful, Mum says don't run in the corridor,” she said to her youngest sibling who just entered kindergarten.
“Sorry, sis! Uhm, what’s that?” she asks out of curiosity regarding the boxes she is carrying.
“Oh, this?! These are my musical instruments. I'm thinking of giving it all away anyway, do you want to have something here?” she asks.
And her sister becomes giddy as she slowly drops the box full of musical instruments. Her sister happily looks at every musical instrument that she has and then she chooses to have a violin.
“Can I take this one?” she hesitantly asks in a stuttering tone she nods her head in response and she picks up the violin she chooses and gives it to her.
“Sure, there you have it, it's all yours!” she happily said
And she felt happy when her sister smiles showing her incomplete crooked set of teeth.
“Thank you, sis! You're the best! I promise I'll take care of Linlin!” her youngest sister responded
But she frowned when she heard something that she doesn't know.
“Linlin?!” she asked in curiosity.
“Linlin short for violin!!” she said and she hugged her on her knees and happily walked inside her room while holding her violin and squealed afterward when she finally entered her room.
She heaves a long and deep sigh at the sight of her little sister Queena who at a very young age becomes a musical prodigy at the age of seven. Now, she felt more envious. First, to her twin brother and now, to her youngest sister. She is no longer good as the eldest sister. So, she decided to give all of her instruments to the music club at her alma mater, and finally…
Move on from the pain of the fact that being part of the music industry was not meant for her.
The next day, after she gave all of her musical instruments to the music club at her alma mater, she is now working on her resume and preparing her credentials. At least she thought that her major in business management won't be a waste for her since she is a dean’s lister and consistently top honorable in her educational years.
“I think this is enough, not too bragging, not too humble. Just enough confidence on my resume is enough,” she mumbled as she started to look for a job on a website.
She didn't choose any company, she just submitted her resume to every company that she thinks that she meets their potential. The next morning when she woke up, she heard her ringtone ringing so loud that it made her journey to dreamland cut off.
“Hello? Who’s this?” she asks in a slurry tone the moment she picks up the phone.
“Hi! My name is Geneva. I'm the HR from Vista Group of Companies. May I speak with Miss Winslette Jazz de Rossi?” the HR asks that her blood rush through her veins and make her jump off the bed and in an instant, she becomes excited as she happily answers the phone call.
“Oh, yes! Yes! I’m Winslette Jazz speaking!” She responded quickly and that made the HR chuckle.
“Did I just disturb you while you sleeping?” the HR officer asks jokingly which made the two of them chuckle.
“No! It's just that your call is so unexpected since the Vista Group of Companies is one the major companies here in this country and I think that your applicants are more competitive than mine,” she explained while stuttering and talking fast.
“Really? I wasn't expecting that answer from you, well may I ask for your presence tomorrow at ten in the morning for a job interview?” she asked and she didn't hesitate to answer.
“Yes! I’ll come for the interview!”
The next day, everything happened too fast for her as she came at exactly ten in the morning, she headed to the HR department, and she had her examination for the position, interview, lunch break, and the final interview.
There are only three of them who are now having the final interview for the position of administrative staff since one of the employees got promoted and the other one filed for retirement.
“Okay, thank you for your time during the interview, our upper management will evaluate your overall performance in this interview process and expect at least one week for us to call you. If one week has passed but you didn't receive a single call from us, that means you are not fit for the job qualifications. Thank you and have a nice day!” the HR head says
And all of the remaining applicants including her go home.
During the application process, she felt awkward. Most of the applicants are female applicants there were only a few male applicants but she gained no friends during the interview. Maybe the competition is too intense so that no one is friends with each other. But in the final interview, only she and the two male applicants made it to the final interview, and now, the last thing that she must have to do is to wait for the call. But she must not wait, she must have to entertain another job interview if there will be a chance that her application gets rejected.
The next morning when she wakes up from her deep slumber, she is still looking for a job on the website when her cell phone rings.
“Hello, this is Winslette Jazz speaking, may I know who this is?!” She asks while browsing the internet and she didn't look at her phone when she picked it up so she has no idea who is calling her in the early morning.
“Good morning, this is Geneva HR from Vista Group of Companies, and we gladly inform you that your application got approved by the upper management, when is your time available for the sign of the contract of your employment?” she asked.
“I-am hired?” she asks while stuttering.
“Yes, you are hired! Welcome to the Vista Group of Companies!” she happily said on the other line that making her stunned
And her phone was dropped by her bed, leaving Geneva speaking alone on the phone.
