Forbidden Desires: A Dark Romance Novel

Chapter 2

Three days later….

Everywhere has been set for Brayden’s Third Birthday party and all the guests have started to arrive. Andrea, his mother, is running around making sure everything goes right. She plans on making his birthday a day to remember. Best part of it is that Brayden is celebrating his birthday with his cousin and best friend, Austin since they’re just a month apart with Austin being the older one. Even though they’re just three they’re both very smart and intelligent because of the genes of their parents. With the way they speak and think, one might think they are way older than three.

It's 4pm In the afternoon and all the guests have arrived, except one and that person happens to be Brayden’s favorite person in the world.

“Brayden, it’s time to go inside, the guests can’t wait to see you.” Andrea says, taking his hand in hers. Brayden has been standing outside for some minutes, waiting and hoping his uncle arrives.

“But Uncle Mickey isn’t back yet, I want to wait for him. Just give me a few more minutes and I promise I’ll come in.”

“You’ve stood outside for long enough, time to go in sweetie.”

“Uncle Mickey promised he won’t miss my birthday for anything in the world.”

“And he won’t. Knowing Mickey, he never breaks his promise. He’s probably stuck in traffic or something.”

“He’s been different lately, he’s not like the Mickey I know. Something deep is eating him up.” Brayden mutters as he walks in with his mom.

“I noticed.” His mom sighs.

Meanwhile, standing some feet away is Mickey with a cap on his head with his eyes covered with dark shades.

“Are you sure about this?” Brian asks. “He’s going to be devastated.”

“I’m sure. If I see him and he begs me to stay, I just might but I can’t. I need to find my own path, my own family. Honestly, I’m tired of being alone. I need something new in my life. Tired of the same ‘ol shit.”

“I understand bro, you don’t have to say anything else. Just be ready to get brutally killed when you return, Andrea won’t let this slide.”

“Oh, I know.” Mickey chuckles and sighs. “I’m really going to miss that little fúcker.”

“He’ll miss you too. I’ll be sure to send your regards and give him your gift.”

“Thanks Brian.”

“Anytime bro.”

Mickey gives Brian a manly bear hug and pats his back before letting him go.

“Have a safe flight.” Brian murmurs as Mickey gets into his car. He nods once at Brian and then drives off.

At the airport, when Mickey is done with all his flight processes, he boards the plane. Once he settles in his seat, he lets out a satisfied sigh. “This better be worth it or I’ll murder someone.” He didn’t realize he said it out loud until his seat mate glances at him. He smiles sheepishly and moves on to plug his ear with a headphone, not bothering to explain himself. The man is free to interpret what he said the way he pleases. Seattle, here I come.

She walks in, takes off her pair of heels aggressively before plopping down hard on the couch with a deep sigh.

“I need a drink”. She murmurs and then groans. “But I feel too lazy to get it.”

“So, how did the date go? Did he propose like I thought?” Her apartment mate and closest friend, Leah, asks as she walks out from the kitchen.

She snorts and rolls her eyes. “Propose my a$$, I knew it was too good to be true when he asked me on a date at ten am in the fücking morning. I never would have even bothered to dress up for it if I had known it was going to end up shitty. What a waste of outfit.”

“So…. It went bad?” Leah frowns in confusion. She just stares at her without a word and without blinking for some seconds before finally replying.

“He broke up with me.” She says like she didn’t just drop the most shocking news ever… At least to Leah.

“Wait… What?!” Leah’s eyes widen in shock. “He broke up with you?! For real?!”

“Please don’t make me repeat myself.” She groans.

“I can’t believe this! But you were such a perfect couple, the envy of basically anyone who saw you two together.”

“Well, this is solid proof that nothing good lasts forever.” She scoffs and averts her gaze. Leah sighs and goes to sit by her side.

“What happened? What was his reasons?” Leah asks as she places her hand on her friend’s.

“Apparently, he only just realized that I’m a red head with crazily curly hair with an extremely poor sight. He realized that after three fücking years and six months of being together, I wasn’t the ideal girl for him. I’m not graceful, not elegant, I’m clumsy as hell and break every freaking thing in my path all in the name of trying to walk. Oh and maybe the fact that I’ll be joining the army in two days scared the shit out of him or something.”

Leah blinks multiple times trying to take in everything she said. Before she gets the chance to say a word, she continues. “I mean, it’s not my fault I was born a red head, I didn’t choose to be this way. If he expected me to dye my hair, then he was goddamn stupid because even though I get a lot of weird looks for being a red head, I still love my hair. I love how it gives off an orange hue whenever I’m in the direction of the sun, I love how full and curly it is. It’s giving Brave vibes and I love it. And being clumsy isn’t a bad thing either. Not everyone can be like those women in the magazines or who walk the runway with their long and straight black or blonde hair, their glowing skin and beautiful straight legs and walk like goddesses. Not everyone can be a freaking model, this is me, take it or leave it. My parents love me the way I am so why should I bother about what anyone thinks of me.”

“I love you the way you are also. You are gorgeous Ziana, perfect just the way you are. Others might not see it but I do and everyone who has gotten the chance to really get to know you do so yeah, don’t give much thought to what that motherfucker thinks of you.” Leah adds and pulls Ziana in for a hug.

“Thanks Leah.” She murmurs and then sighs sadly. “But I really did love him, you know? And I still do. He was… My everything. I had even planned our wedding and all, the number of kids we’ll have, the kind of house we’ll live in and all that nonsense. I really thought and hoped that this one was gonna last but.” She takes a deep breath, trying to keep her tears at bay. “But once again I was proven that the universe really hates me and I’m made to question my life choices once again. Am I really that bad at picking the right guy? Do I really have terrible tastes in men?”

“No, men are just naturally scum.”

“Says the girl who’s engaged to be married in six months.”

“This isn’t about me, it’s about you. Listen, you might think you have terrible tastes in men… “

“Which I apparently do.” Ziana chirps in and Leah sighs and shakes her head before going on.

“But you don’t. The men don’t just see that you’re actually an Angel, with a good heart.”

Ziana stares at Leah and then starts to laugh. “I am definitely not an Angel, I’m a walking havoc. I break everything I touch and by the way, I broke a vase this morning and a glass cup.”

“And that’s what I love about you.”

“The fact that I keep piling up our expenses?” Ziana raises her brows and Leah sighs.

“No, it’s the fact that….. You know what, instead of mewling over something you have no control over, how about we go have some fun? Get your mind over him, he’s in the past, he’s no longer relevant and now that you’re not longer being held down by that psycho, you can do whatever you damn well want.”

“He was a bit controlling when I think about it. Okay, you’re right, let’s go have fun. Just to be on the safe side though, what kind of fun are you talking about?”

“The deadly kind. Do you remember that club that opened downtown recently?”

“Yeah? What about it?”

“That’s where we’re going to have our fun and who knows, you might just meet someone who’s ready to fúck the memory of Silas from your head.” Leah shrugs and Ziana’s mouth pops open in shock as she stares at her friend like she just grew another head.

“Where’s Leah and what have you done with her?”

“Oh c’mon, really?” Leah rolls her eyes.

“What? It’s unlike you. Also, you know that new club doesn’t open till nine pm, what are we going to do until then?”

“Well, first off, we can go to the shooting range and pretend the dummy is Silas, go shopping and get you a bad a$$ dress that will leave the men at the club speechless with drools all over their mouths and then we can go get a mouth watering lunch because all these talks has made me so hungry.”

“Sounds like a plan. Give me some minutes to get out of this shit of a dress and we can leave.” Leah nods and Ziana goes to her room to get changed.

When Mickey walks out of the airport, waiting for him is a tall and lanky man dressed in a black suit with dark shades on with his back leaning against a black Toyota Vanza with tinted windows. Mickey recognizes him and walks up to him.

“Never thought I’ll see you again.” The man says as he gives Mickey a good look over, silently assessing him. “You haven’t changed a bit since I last saw you, you still look like an asshole and smell like one.”

Mickey snorts and takes out his palm, signalling for him to drop the car key on it. The man groans and does just that. “Good to see you too, Peter.”

“I told you never to call me that, you know how much I hate that name.”

“I do but… I just don’t care.” Mickey winks at him before walking around to boot of the car and dropping his luggage in it. He gets into the car and starts it. Through the side mirror, he sees Peter flip him off. He chuckles in response and drives off, heading to the apartment he had prepared for himself ahead of his arrival.

After driving for hours, he finally arrives at a beautiful five star hotel. He had booked their best suite on the topmost floor and he’ll be living there for a very long time, not minding the expenses. After all, he can afford it. He gives his key to the valet when he steps out and heads to the entrance of the hotel with his luggage behind him.

“Good day, how can I be of service to you?” The receptionist asks in boredom without bothering to even look up to see who the customer is.

“I booked a suite on the topmost floor in this hotel under the name Mickey.”

At the sound of his voice, the receptionist looks and then turns red. Mickey arches a brow at the sudden change in attitude but doesn’t voice his thought. He’s not used to getting attention like this from women. He was always around Brian and Brian always ended up getting the attention as all the ladies gathered around, fawning over him while he just stood by the side and watched in silence. Unfortunately for them, though, Brian didn’t give a shit about them so they were practically wasting their time and energy. Sometimes he felt sorry for them and most times he didn’t, after all, they had it coming.

“Here’s your card, sir and have a lovely stay. If there’s anything you need you can just give us a call on the telephone. You also have full access to the secret entrance, you can drive in and out without having to walk through this door. There’s an elevator in the suite that leads straight down to the secret entrance” The receptionist explains as she hands him a black card

“Thank you.” He nods.

“You can leave your bags here, someone will bring it up for you.”

“No, it’s fine but thanks for the offer.” He picks up the black card and heads to the elevator leading up.

“A sexy man with manners, my kind of guy.” He hears her say and he smiles. He’s going to have to get used to not being Brian’s shadow anymore; it’s just him now.
