Introdução
Nine times I stood beneath the wedding arch, waiting for Alpha Julian to claim me. Nine times he never showed. On the tenth, he brought his pregnant mistress to our altar. He thought I would swallow it all. Like I always did. But he forgot one thing—even a wolfless Omega has a spine. I tore off my veil, leaving my palm fly across his face. Then I ended everything between us. Julian was certain I'd crawl back within a week. Instead, I picked up the medical career I had buried for him. * An emergency took me into the Royal Restricted Forest. I didn't expect to spend a wild night tangled in a stranger's arms. The last thing I'd expect was that stranger turned out to be Ambrose Valemont. The most feared Alpha King in existence. * Now my ex is begging me to return. The King is hunting me down. And the power hidden inside me is finally waking up. They said I was worthless. Soon, the world will know just how wrong they were.

“Seven minutes,” the moon priest murmured, glancing from the silver altar to the Super Full Moon above them. “If Alpha Julian does not arrive before the moon reaches its peak, the blessing window will close.”

Naomi Hardin drew a slow breath and tightened her fingers around the bouquet in her hands, careful not to crush the moon lilies she had spent hours arranging.

This was the ninth time she had stood beneath the ceremonial arch waiting for Julian Ravencrest to claim her as his Luna.

Eight times, he had offered her an explanation. The first ceremony had been canceled after rogues attacked Ravencrest’s eastern border, while the fourth had ended before it began because his father had supposedly suffered a heart seizure. At the eighth, Priya Kade had fallen down a staircase only hours before the ceremony, and Julian had remained at her bedside until dawn.

Every excuse had sounded reasonable when it came from the man Naomi loved, so she had defended him when the pack whispered and forgiven him when he failed to apologize.

Tonight, however, there could be no tenth chance.

Once the moon passed its peak, the season’s final blessing window would end, leaving their mate bond unregistered before the Werewolf Council. Naomi would lose the Luna title she had spent five years preparing to carry, and her younger brother, Leo, would lose his chance at permanent enrollment in Ravencrest’s cardiac program.

“Five minutes,” the priest warned.

Uneasy whispers traveled through the ceremonial clearing, where hundreds of pack members had gathered to witness what was rapidly becoming another public humiliation.

“Maybe the Alpha finally came to his senses,” a she-wolf said from the front row. “No Ravencrest heir should have a wolfless Omega for a Luna.”

Her companion laughed behind one hand. “Assuming she could give him an heir.”

Naomi kept her back straight even as their amusement pressed against wounds that had never fully healed. She had endured their contempt for five years, always believing Julian’s eventual claiming would prove that the Moon Goddess had chosen her despite everything she lacked.

A sudden creak silenced the crowd.

The tall oak doors at the entrance of the ceremonial grounds swung open, and relief rushed through Naomi so swiftly that her knees nearly gave way.

Julian had come.

Dressed in a black ceremonial suit, he strode toward the altar with the commanding confidence of an Alpha who had never needed to question whether others would obey him. His broad shoulders filled the jacket perfectly, and his handsome face looked as composed as it always did before a Council meeting.

Naomi almost smiled before she noticed the woman holding his arm.

Priya Kade wore a white dress that fell loosely around her slender body, while one hand rested over her stomach in a gesture that seemed too deliberate to be innocent. Silver gleamed at her throat, drawing Naomi’s attention to a crescent-shaped pendant set with pale blue diamonds.

It was the Ravencrest Luna necklace.

Five years earlier, Julian’s mother had shown Naomi the heirloom and promised to fasten it around her neck after the marking ceremony. Every Luna in the Ravencrest bloodline had worn it, yet now it rested against Priya’s skin as if it had always belonged there.

By the time they stopped before the altar, the relief inside Naomi had hardened into dread.

“Julian, why is she wearing that?”

He looked at her without answering, his expression holding none of the guilt or urgency she had expected.

Priya gave Naomi a gentle smile that never reached her eyes. “We thought it would be kinder if you heard the news from us.”

From her purse, she removed a folded medical report embossed with the Ravencrest crest, holding it where the priest and Council witnesses could see it.

Naomi ignored the document. “What news?”

“I’m pregnant.”

The clearing became so quiet that the rustle of leaves in the surrounding forest sounded unnaturally loud.

Naomi turned to Julian, searching his face for confusion, denial, or anything that would prove she had misunderstood. “What does her pregnancy have to do with our ceremony?”

His jaw tightened before he answered.

“The pup is mine.”

The words hit her like a physical blow. Naomi staggered back a step, the silk of her dress rustling loudly in the silence.

"What... what the hell did you just say?" she whispered. Her mind resisted their meaning and searched for another explanation.

Then she saw Priya’s hand covering Julian’s, their fingers intertwined beneath the fall of her white sleeve, and the truth tore through every lie Naomi had used to survive the last five years.

“How long have you been sleeping with her?”

“Naomi, watch your tongue.”

A brittle laugh escaped her. “You brought your pregnant mistress to our marking ceremony, and you’re blaming my tongue?”

Several wolves lowered their gazes, although whether from embarrassment or pity, Naomi could not tell.

Julian exhaled as his patience thinned. “What happened between Priya and me was an accident, but the child is innocent, and Ravencrest needs an heir."

"We cannot allow a personal disagreement to destabilize the entire pack.”

A personal disagreement.

He spoke as though her heartbreak were an administrative problem he could settle with the correct terms.

Priya stepped closer, touching the Luna necklace as she adopted an expression of practiced regret.

“I have no intention of taking your place. Julian says you can still complete the ceremony and remain Luna, while I stay out of your way until the baby is born.”

“While wearing my necklace?”

A flicker of satisfaction crossed Priya’s face before she lowered her eyes. “Julian thought the mother of his heir should wear it tonight.”

Naomi’s jaw tightened as the moon lilies crumpled between her fingers.

Priya stroked her stomach. “Once my son is born, you may help raise him. He will need guidance from the pack’s official Luna, and perhaps caring for him will give your life a purpose.”

Naomi stared at her. “You want me to raise the child you conceived with my mate?”

“Enough,” Julian said, stepping between them as the priest glanced anxiously at the moon. “The blessing window is closing, so we will settle this now.”

Julian spoke with the calm certainty of a man who believed Naomi would endure this betrayal just as she had endured every disappointment before it.

“You will complete the ceremony and publicly recognize Priya’s pup as my heir,” he continued. “In return, you will retain your position, your home, and every privilege attached to the Luna title.”

Naomi barely recognized her own voice when she asked, “And if I refuse?”

Julian’s gaze hardened. “Then you leave Ravencrest with nothing. Your allowance will end, your pack status will be revoked, and Leo will lose his place in our cardiac program.”

Cold understanding settled inside her as the final piece fell into place.

He had not merely expected her forgiveness; he had built a cage around everything she valued, knowing that her love for Leo might force her to remain inside it.

Priya laid a hand on Naomi’s arm. “Please be reasonable. Whatever you feel about us, your pride cannot be worth your brother’s life.”

Naomi looked down at the manicured fingers resting against her skin, then raised her eyes to Julian.

For five years, he had accepted every sacrifice as if it were his right. He knew that she loved deeply and forgave too easily, and instead of protecting those parts of her, he had turned them into weapons.

He was waiting for the old Naomi to surrender.

She pulled her arm away from Priya, tore off her own veil, and stepped toward him.

The slap echoed across the clearing.

Julian’s head snapped to one side, and shocked cries erupted through the crowd. Priya clutched her stomach with a theatrical gasp even though Naomi had never touched her, while the moon priest stumbled backward from the altar.

When Julian faced Naomi again, a red mark was spreading across his cheek.

His Alpha aura exploded with enough force to drive several wolves to their knees. Naomi felt the command pressing against her bones, demanding submission, but although her legs trembled beneath her gown, she refused to bow.

“Apologize,” he ordered.

“No.”

Instead, Naomi removed the engagement ring she had worn for five years and held it between them. It had once represented every future she wanted; now, beneath the bruised moonlight, it looked like nothing more than a beautifully crafted shackle.

She dropped it at his feet.

“I, Naomi Hardin, reject you, Julian Ravencrest, as my mate.”

His anger vanished so suddenly that she saw the fear beneath it.

“Take it back, Naomi.” Julian gritted. "You don't know what you are doing.

Naomi’s eyes burned with tears she refused to shed. “I reject your name, your protection, and the Luna title you used to keep me obedient. From this moment forward, the bond between us is severed.”

The moon priest’s face paled. “A wolfless Omega can’t survive that.”

Naomi already knew.

To reject a fated bond beneath the full moon was to deny the Goddess’s blessing, and the resulting rupture could destroy even a strong wolf. For a wolfless Omega, it was believed to be a death sentence.

White-hot agony tore through Naomi’s chest, stealing her breath as the ground tilted beneath her.

'Please, Goddess,' she prayed inside. She had given Julian five years of patience, loyalty, and love, but he had never deserved any of them.

'Please let me survive. My brother needs me.'

Her knees began to buckle, but before she fell, something cold surged through her blood and wrapped around the pain.

The power steadied her heartbeat until the agony receded, leaving behind a strange sense of wholeness she had never experienced before.

Gasps spread through the crowd as Naomi straightened.

No one moved. No one spoke.

Every wolf present had expected to watch her die, yet the wolfless Omega remained standing beneath the full moon, breathing more easily than she had in years.

A grateful smile touched Naomi’s lips as she looked up at the silver light.

“You think this could change anything?”

A strangled sound drew her attention back to Julian. He pressed one hand over his heart as blood stained his lower lip, proof that the severed bond had wounded him too.

"Listen, Naomi," his voice rose, hiding his shock behind contempt. “You have no wolf, no pack, and no career. Before sunrise, you’ll come crawling back.”

Naomi gave him no answer. She turned toward the gates and walked away without looking back.

As she crossed the edge of the ceremonial grounds, her phone began ringing inside the hidden pocket of her gown. She nearly ignored it, but the name on the screen stopped her.

Dr. Elias Hart.

Five years ago, he had urged her not to abandon her medical career for Julian.

Naomi answered, and Elias’s urgent voice rushed down the line. “Naomi, the hospital used the cardiac protocol you developed before you left. It saved a six-year-old boy tonight.”

Despite everything, a soft smile touched her lips. “I’m glad it helped.”

“The board wants to reopen your return-to-practice application,” Elias continued, unable to hide his excitement. “If you still want to practice medicine, we need you back.”

Naomi paused.

If Julian had been beside her, he would have scoffed and ordered her to hang up. He had never wanted his Luna to work as a doctor, and for five years, she had allowed his expectations to define the limits of her life.

That life was over now.

“Tell the board,” Naomi said as she walked into the night, “that Dr. Hardin is coming back.”
