Seraphina's POV
I sat quietly at a corner in the now busy hospital, my wet clothes clinging tightly to my body as I watched the doctors and nurses attend to people who seemed to have more pressing health concerns. Seems like the accident affected a lot of people.
I picked up my phone and stared quietly at the screen, still no calls nor replies. Maybe... maybe he's still busy. He would have rushed over if he had seen my calls or messages because this child was too.
With that thought in mind, I stopped calling and decided to go get a doctor myself when a sudden pain shot through my abdomen. I shut my eyes and let out a sharp exhale, my fingers squeezing tightly against my clothes.
My soft groans was enough to attract the attention of a nurse... finally! I stretched my hand towards her;
"I need your help. I can't..."
"Ahhh!!" She screamed all of a sudden, staring at me with a horrific look. What's going on? Why is she....
My eyes landed on the part of my body she was staring at and.... my hands shook as I watched a pool of my blood trickle down my legs. Wait.... no... my baby!!
The once busy doctors rushed to me and picked me up before I could collapse, then took me to an emergency care ward. I was still awake, watching in fear and pain as they frantically ran tests on me.
I couldn't stop wailing. It hurt, so much despite my ability to withstand a lot of pain as a wolf.
"W..what's wrong? Wh...at's wrong wi...th my baby?" I struggled to ask as the pain hit harder. The doctor paused and stared at me with a look that scared me.
"I'm so sorry... we did all we could but..." I drowned out the rest of his words, my hands drifting to my already round belly.
Just a few weeks left and I should have been able to finally see your face. No!! No way!! It can't be possible! You can't leave me just yet. My baby...
I couldn't believe it. The tears poured out of my eyes uncontrollably while the doctor stared at me with pity. I know he had a lot more to say but I didn't want to hear it. There's no way!
I sobbed louder, my eyes drifting to the blood still flowing out of my body. Every part of my body still hurt due to the accident but the pain of loosing a life I had been nursing for months was greater.
"Your body can't hold on much longer. We'll have to remove the baby from your womb or it can cause lasting complications." The doctor paused to check if I was still listening.
"... Any further delay can lead you your death too!!" The urgency in his voice was impossible to hide but I wasn't listening to him. After all, I had just lost my child!
He sighed seeing the state I was in; "What about your husband?" He asked softly.
I choked on my sob when I heard that question. The twenty unanswered calls and fifteen unread messages had burned a hole in my head.. and that bus earlier...
The rather familiar blue sports car that suddenly crashed into us, causing the driver to swerve to the right, hanging mid-air at the bridge's rails before crashing into the river.
The pain of being thrown around the bus, not being able to shield my belly well before being enveloped by the claws of the freezing water. It took all the strength I had within to be able to break the window and swim out but at what cost?
I couldn't even reach out to him through a mindlink because he never wanted to share his mate mark with me! My lips quivered before I was finally able to push out the words;
"He's busy."
I shakily picked up the pen and signed the consent form myself, still believing in my husband. Once he knows what has happened to me. He'll surely come!
After the procedure, I was taken to a normal ward to rest. I stared at the empty room, wondering why no one has reached out to me yet. I picked up my phone and stared at the screen... nothing... there were no returned calls from him.
I sighed in hurt, my teary eyes drifting unconsciously to the ceiling. Does he still hate me for barging into his life? But it was never my intention to. I had always loved him and he did too... but as his little sister.
Losing my parents to a rogue attack wasn't something I had planned for when I was just ten. Being an orphan, I was taken in by the former Alpha as his daughter. My father was a very good friend of his, so he couldn't bear to see me suffer as an orphan.
But then, he died too and his son, my husband, Kael Blackwood, took over the mantle from his late father as the new Alpha of Bloodmoon Pack while I continued to love and supported him in secret.
I had managed to hide my feelings for him, knowing he had someone else in his heart, but that one night changed everything. He had been drugged and I had just managed to be the only one with him at that moment.
That was the first and last intimacy I had with him which led to our unpublicized marriage. Now that the baby's gone too... what will become of us?
Just then, I heard my phone's ringtone. My heart skipped a beat as I rushed to my phone.
"Kael..." His name escaped my lips before I was able to pick up my phone, my anticipation hitting heavier than before. He was finally worried about me!
I picked up the phone and answered without even staring at the caller's ID. "Ka..."
"Where are you?!" A familiar woman's voice rang out instead, withering away the hope that had built up in my heart almost instantly.
Of course it wasn't him. He hadn't even bothered to read my messages. I slowly pulled the phone away from my ear, my eyes wandering to the ward's door, still hoping that he would suddenly burst in and just for the first time ever, I'll be the only one for him.
