As Jeannette Hester sat in the car wearing her wedding dress, heading to her fiance's place, she felt a sudden heatwave in her body.

Her cheeks burned, and she had the urge to tear the dress right off.

At this moment, she recalled that the glass of champagne her stepmother had passed to her.

It tasted weird.

She knew it! Something was off with that champagne.

She lifted up her veil and peered outside, panic setting in as she realized she wasn't on the way to the Duncan family.

"Stop the car right now!" Jeannette shouted in a panic, "Who are you? This is not the way to Duncan's house!"

But the driver seemed just as bewildered. "Miss Hester, the Vanderbilt family sent me to pick you up. We're on our way to the Vanderbilt's mansion."

"Vanderbilt?" Jeannette was dumbfounded.

Vanderbilt was her stepsister's disabled fiance!

What a brilliant trick her stepmother played! She and her stepsister had weddings planned for the same day, so her stepmother, Barbara, made a switch!

"Stop the car. I'm marrying into the Duncan family. You've made a mistake."

"A mistake? Miss Hester, the veil on your head was picked personally by our Master. It belonged to a royal princess in the 19th century. How could I confuse it?"

Jeannette looked at the veil in her hand and finally understood how Barbara had managed to deceive everyone.

You've got some nerve, Barbara.

There was no way she was going to marry into the Vanderbilt family! She was not going to let Barbara and her daughter get what they wanted.

The drug in her body started to take effect. Evidently, Barbara was determined to let Jeannette make a fool of herself and completely destroy her.

"Stop the car." Jeannette tried her best to control herself and growled in a low voice.

"Miss Hester, we're almost there... Miss Hester, what are you doing?"

The driver was shocked when Jeannette flung the car door open and leaped out.

She tumbled to the ground, and the intense pain brought her back to her senses.

"Miss Hester, please get back in the car. Miss Hester..."

Seeing that the car had stopped and the driver had caught up, Jeannette gritted her teeth and limped away despite the pain.

After all, only pain could keep her lucid at this moment.

"Miss Hester, don't run. Come back with me. We'll be at the mansion soon."

His words only made Jeannette run even faster.

She was in an unfamiliar place, the driver was gaining on her, and it was becoming harder to resist the drug's effects.

Tears filled her eyes.

Just as Jeannette was about to lose hope, she spotted a light a few hundred meters away.

Feeling hopeful once again, Jeannette desperately sprinted towards it.

It was a black car parked on the side of the road. A man in a suit was standing at the door, talking on the phone.

Just as he was about to get in the car and drive off, Jeannette rushed over and begged in a tearful voice, "Help me, please, help me."

He was stunned for a moment before his eyes swept across Jeannette.

At that instant, an anxious voice on the other end of the phone said, "The bride is about to arrive. Why aren't you here yet? Hurry up!"

"Shut up!" The man abruptly hung up.

Meanwhile, the driver had caught up to them.

With no other option, Jeannette didn't care whether the man agreed or not; she hastily opened the car door and climbed inside.

Clasping her hands together, she sobbed, "Help me!"

As soon as she finished speaking, the driver said, "Miss Hester, come back with me. We're going to be late. The wedding..."

The driver paused when he saw the man.

Before he could finish, the man shot him a cold glare, "Get lost!"
