Chapter one.
ARIA
Aria came back from abroad. She had just passed her final papers in medical school.
Her parents beamed with admiration. They always knew she would make them proud.
But the surprise wasn't over. She came back with the man that was ready to marry her.
Liam held her hands as they walked into the house together.
He was astonished as his eyes widened in amazement at the mansion standing right before him.
They exchanged greetings and hosted him while listening to his intention that he was interested in their daughter.
While he left the house heading towards the gate. Mr. Federick fumed with rage as he spoke to Aria.
“You seize to be my daughter if I ever see you with that riff-raff you call a boyfriend”,
Aria couldn't hold back the tears as it flew freely from her eyes.
“Dad, please I love him, why can't I be with him”,
Mr. Federick spat and looked at his daughter which he had loved with all his heart with disdain.
“After putting you through the best medical school you couldn't find yourself a man from a reputable family you have to fall in love with a man who could barely feed you”,
Aria's heart shattered into a million tiny pieces. The only offense Liam has committed was to be born poor. But he was hardworking, intelligent and loved her so much.
They have chosen the best suit so as to appear presentable to her parents. She didn't know it didn't hide the fact that Liam was not old money or affluent in society.
“How did you meet him?”,
Aria tried her best to impress her dad by telling him all the nice things she could think of about him.
“I met him during one of my clinical at the hospital”,
“Well, very good of you, I know the son of the owner of the hospital”,
Aria looked at her dad with a don't do that please.
He adjusted himself properly.
“Well, Leo is about to take over his dad company and he is looking for a well-mannered girl from a good family”,
“And you are the perfect match for him”,
Aria has always been against arranged marriage. She has always longed for a love that wasn't bound by societal expectations and she was glad to find Liam who loved her for who she was.
“Dad, I can't marry someone I don't know”,
Her mom lean in closer. Aria smiled. She knew her mom would understand her better than her dad.
Mrs. Federick cleared her throat before speaking. “You know we always want the best for you”
“Yes mom”,
Mrs. Federick didn't want to hurt her daughter but she couldn't disagree with her husband as well.
“That guy you brought home that we saw doesn't fit you”, she dropped the bombshell.
Aria's eyes widened in shock.
“Mom!”,
Mrs. Federick paused before she continued speaking.
“He has showed his intention to marry you Aria, we were just waiting for you to come back so we will inform you, we didn't know you have someone else”,
She knew her parents love her so much and just needed time to get to know Liam.
“How sure are you that he would even like me, we haven't even met before”,
Mrs. Frederick couldn't hide it anymore. She had to tell her daughter the truth.
“This would bring our company with his own into a consolidation and we can't afford to lose that”,
Everything was beginning to make sense to Aria now.
“So you have chosen to use your daughter as bait!”, she voiced out angrily. “I can't believe this”, she said and stormed out of the house in tears.
Mrs. Federick followed her calling after her daughter who refused to listen to her.
