In Metropolitan No.1 High School, 12th grade, class 3, a group of tense students focused on the podium.
Today was Awakening Day.
"Come up to get the potion when you hear your name called, and do the check half an hour later," said Mr. James Whitman, the bald, glasses-wearing class teacher.
He called the names one by one, and the students came up to collect their potions.
"Don't mix them up. The potions are matched to your genes. Mistakes could lead to accidents," Mr. James cautioned as he handed them out.
"Aiden Carter."
Mr. James continued calling names.
In the back row of the classroom, a handsome boy stood up. Aiden took the potion and returned to his seat with a long sigh of relief.
A century ago, a nuclear war sparked a new era of human evolution. Since then, everyone had been able to awaken their lineage before adulthood and embark on the path of evolution.
However, talent varied. Some awakened an invincible lineage and were destined to stand out; others awakened ordinary lineage and could only go with the flow. Awakening one’s lineage was crucial!
As a time traveler, Aiden had been struggling in this parallel world for ten years. Without any golden finger or system enhancement, he had lived like an ordinary person all this time.
Today marked the turning point in his fate—the awakening of his bloodline!
"As a trans-migrator, I'm bound to stand out. Perhaps I'll awaken some badass bloodline! Dual bloodline? Triple bloodline? Anything is possible!"
Aiden clutched the potion, hyping himself up. Taking a deep breath, he tilted his head back and downed the potion in one gulp.
Holy crap, it’s bitter!
...
Half an hour later, the students from the third class filed out one by one, heading to the examination room downstairs.
"Why, isn’t this our highly talented Aiden?"
A big-built, sunny-looking boy with a somewhat smirky grin approached.
"Caleb ‘Too Dumb’?"
Aiden raised an eyebrow at the newcomer.
Caleb Morgan had been a childhood friend of Aiden’s. Their friendship was mostly because Caleb was from a wealthy family, and Aiden would often mooch snacks from him when they were kids. They ended up playing together this way.
"Hasn’t your class finished the test?" Aiden asked.
"I just want to see your bloodline level," Caleb answered bluntly.
Aiden raised an eyebrow. "How about you? What’s your rank?"
"Me?" Caleb smirked, snapping his fingers.
"Bang!"
Orange flames burst from his fingertips, heat waves rippling around them.
Shouts of surprise rang out from onlookers.
With an air of nonchalance, Caleb sighed. "Ah, just a common A-class Flame Bloodline."
Aiden quietly flipped him off.
Bloodline ranks were graded from high to low: S, A, B, C, D, E, F. S-rank was extremely rare. Besides rank, bloodlines were divided into Psychic-type, Beast-type, and Elemental-type. The Elemental-type was the most precious.
When Caleb announced his bloodline, envy filled the eyes of those around him. An A-class Elemental type promised a bright future.
"Alright," Mr. James called out. "Bloodline examination begins. Form up in four lines."
"Go on, don’t embarrass your dear old dad," Caleb teased, patting Aiden on the shoulder with a smug look.
Aiden only rolled his eyes and flipped him off again.
After waiting for quite some time, it was finally Aiden’s turn. He took several deep breaths to steady his nerves and stepped into the center of the machine.
With a humming noise, the machine lit up. A circle of red light slowly appeared under Aiden’s feet. The more circles of light, the higher the bloodline level.
Then another hum. A second circle of light appeared before stopping.
"E grade. Next."
Mr. James shook his head in disappointment. An E grade was only slightly better than an ordinary person.
Aiden stared at the two circles of light under his feet, his mind a little dazed.
Am I really that useless?
Suddenly, a buzzing sound echoed in his head.
A mechanical voice spoke in his mind: "Host bloodline awakening detected. System officially activated."
System?
Aiden instantly snapped out of his gloom, his joy indescribable.
"Super Evolution System commences binding!"
"Binding successful!"
"First-time activation of the system. A novice gift pack is available. Would you like to open it?"
Aiden chose to open it without hesitation.
"Congratulations! Host has acquired an S-grade Black Steel Battle Body bloodline!"
As the system’s voice faded, Aiden felt a warm current bubble up from his heart, surging through his entire body. He felt his strength multiply and his senses sharpen dramatically.
Is this the power of an S-bloodline?
"Aiden? Are you alright?"
Mr. James asked with concern.
Among senior year students, those who couldn’t accept weak bloodline results often suffered mental breakdowns or worse.
"Mr. James, I’m absolutely fine!" Aiden responded cheerfully.
Seeing Aiden so jubilant, Mr. James grew even more anxious.
"Has this child gone mad? Finding joy in an E-tier bloodline?"
"Professor James, I would like to retake the test," Aiden said.
"Retest?" Professor James glanced at the technician nearby.
"This is the latest equipment from the Federation, with an accuracy rate of 99%. The result will be the same even if you retake the test," Lucas Monroe, the technician, said impatiently.
Every year, he encountered people unwilling to accept their low bloodline quality, convinced the machine had erred.
"Forget it. Let’s allow Aiden to retest," Mr. James suggested.
Mr. James felt a pang of pity. After all, Aiden had lost his parents at a young age, taken by the beast tide. The fact that he had survived this long was a miracle.
"Alright, fine."
With an unwilling expression, Mr. Lucas cleared the data and restarted the device.
"Just this once! After testing, you must leave and stop bothering me!"
The machine began to hum. Below Aiden, a circle of light gradually emerged, followed by a second one.
"Just watch. It’ll be the same as before," Mr. Lucas scoffed.
Before the words settled, ka ka ka ka! Four rings of light suddenly illuminated beneath Aiden!
"Holy crap, is this A-level?" Mr. Lucas’s eyes bulged.
But before he could recover, the red light trembled violently and transformed into a dazzling golden glow. The entire room was bathed in brilliant gold, so bright it was blinding.
"Holy hell!"
Mr. Lucas shot out of his chair.
"Holy crap!" Mr. James straightened abruptly, his face red with excitement.
"This… this is an S-level bloodline!"
James was so thrilled his voice cracked.
