Introduction
A short story I wrote a few years ago and decided to publish. {Inspired by the movie 30 days of Darkness} Living in a small town found deep within Alaska, a secluded young woman is left alone to house sit. Experiencing a solid month of darkness every year, most of the residents head south for the winter, though some townspeople remain behind. However, those that stay regret their decision when, one year, hungry vampires descend on the remote town to feed. There the protagonist comes face to face with one of the beasts. Will she make it out alive? Or will she find herself falling for the very beast she fears?

My parents left me to take care of the house as the dark night settled in, they had some business to take care of a couple cities over. I had a lot of homework to catch up to either way, so an empty house would benefit me greatly.

I sat in my dimly lit room staring back at my laptop's screen, my essay halfway written. I sighed in frustration clicking back at my music tab and skipping the song. Maybe another track would help me focus better? Bring some magic into my life and help me finish this crap.

After a while I decided to give up and possibly make tea with a little snack, fuel this brain a little. I take my headphones off and put them next to my laptop. I get up off my chair and rest a knee against it, my small body hunched over the laptop.

As I turn around a tall figure suddenly wraps it's cold thick hand around my neck, a snarling mouth catches my eye; crimson red droplets stain it's mouth, neck and colar of its clothing. I gasp a false breath, choking against his iron grip. I stare into the eyes of my murder. God he was beautiful, his obsidian eyes catching the small light of my lamp; glowing a beautiful violet hue. I had the strange urge to stare into his eyes as he snapped my neck and did his way with me.

He suddenly releases his tight grip around my neck. I collapse onto the floor in shock at the sudden decision. I take in his appearance, elegant mocha colored shoes, dark battered up jeans, and what seems to be a white shirt against the dark red stains and splatters of who knows what. His dark gorgeous eyes catch me, their piercing gaze staring down at me.

"Beautiful," the whisper escaping my parted lips.

  Shouldn't I be afraid?

He suddenly purrs like a kitten and those gorgeous eyes quickly shut, like a flicker of light. His sudden actions cause a giggle to slip my mouth, my hand catching my lips a second too late.

His face is suddenly a few inches from mine, his cold hand on my cheek. Is he caressing me? His cold touch sending vibrations down my spin. I smile and lean into his touch, my eyes shutting in bliss. His hand suddenly moves and touches the soft of my neck. Why am I moaning so loudly?

He lifts me up to my feet with such smooth grace, his gaze captivating my sight. He's suddenly on my neck, his cold nose brushing my warm skin.

I open my eyes and see another tall figure, this one much thinner than the one on my neck. His face looks wild, that of a rabid animal. Dark crimson dripping from his snarled mouth. He looks terrifying, my back suddenly tenses up. A blood curdling scream escapes my lips.

One moment my Obsidian is curled up in my neck, the next shadows are dancing in front of me. My back painfully slams against the wall, causing me to fall on the floor once more. I gasp. My Obsidian is a couple feet in front of me, panting while holding the remains of the monster in his hands. I cover my sight with my hands as he tosses the remains out the window. Cold hands take hold of mine, a soft gentle grip prying them from my eyes. I'm met with that beautiful violet hue of Obsidian eyes.

I look down at his battered clothes. The crimson is everywhere, terrible metallic smell invading my nose. I wrinkled my nose in disgust at the sudden scent, his cold finger catching the bottom of my chin.

How can something so powerful be so gentle?

Those full lips of his, make me wonder how truly soft he is. I lead him into my bathroom, he listens to my command to sit on the toilet seat. I scavenge through my bathroom and settle for a small black hand towel. I quickly clean up the crimson mess around his mouth, neck and chest with the wet rag. His loud deep purr filling my senses, my body humming in bliss.

30 more days of darkness, might as well clean him up.

I take his jacket off and set it down, my eyes intense with wonder on his lips. His hands find the small of my hips and suddenly pull me closer, my forehead hitting his. I bite my lip against my raging thoughts.

Why such compelling wonder? Why such persisten thoughts?

His right hand catches my chin once more, his face leaning in closer to close the gap between us.

His lips felt like flower petals against mine, his cold breath against me making me shiver. My knees felt like jello as our lips parted. His cold tongue battling mine in a dominating intimate battle, my moans vibrating in his mouth mixing with his purring. My hands found their way into his soft hair. How can such a creature smell so devine? It drives me insane.

I pull away from the kiss breathless, he holds me up as my useless knees give away. I can feel all my blood rushes up to my upper half, making my face flushed red. He presses his forehead against mine and lets his hands wonder my back, mapping my body out.

A few days pass by, so far he's changed into my father's clothing, which surprisingly fits him better. His biceps fill out the short sleeves, his chest pulling taunt at the shirt; his muscles very defined. He's kept me locked up in my room, guarding me from the others ransacking the town. He follows me into the kitchen as I make myself something to eat and drink, his intensely predatory gaze focus around us.

Hours of sleep, he stands at the foot of my bed and stares out of my window, conflicted emotions behind his eyes lit up by the moonlight high above the sky.
