Logan sat on top one of the many high rise structures in the city; lost in his thoughts as he stared below. He remembered how his father banished him after he was discovered conducting forbidden experiments; he remembered the looks of contempt every single vampire that was present gave him; he remembered the embarrassment he faced while he was forced out of the kingdom and he sighed.

‘How am I going to get what I spent most of my life researching on, now that I don’t have any financial backing of any sort?’ He asked himself as he stood up and levitated down the building like some sort of heavenly figure and within a few seconds, he was on plain ground. He began to stroll around the city still feeling depressed, until something caught his attention: a building that looked like some sort of institute for learning.

He considered the possibilities of such a place having the facilities he could use for his experiments and the more he thought about it the more he felt it wouldn’t do bad to check it out.

‘How can I help you?’ The owner of the school asked Logan when he stepped into her office; she could tell he was not a student or a staff.

‘Evelyn, can you tell me the purpose of this building?’ Logan asked her.

‘How do you know my name?’ she replied frowning, until it dawned on her smart mind that he wasn’t human, only vampires had the ability to read minds and enter buildings without humans even sensing their presence, they were said to be almost invisible; she quickly reached to her drawer, brought out a cross and held it towards him which made Logan smile.

‘That’s not going to help you in any way’ Logan said as he took a chair, sat down and continued; ‘holy water, wooden stakes, garlic, crosses…’ he said glancing at her.

‘They don’t work?’ Evelyn asked in shock; ‘No they don’t’ Logan replied bluntly, but Evelyn did not put down her cross; ‘What are you doing here then? What do you want with me?’ she asked, still not comfortable with Logan’s presence.

‘What I want’ Logan said as he got up slowly and walked towards her, ‘Is you’ he concluded.

  …

A few hours later, Evelyn woke up, she felt different, her physical senses were evolved and she felt the need to take…

‘Blood?’ she asked herself confused, she turned to Logan and gave him a questioning look.

‘Yes, I turned you’ Logan said without even looking at her. Someone knocked on the door of the office at that moment; ‘Come in’ Evelyn said in a tired voice.

‘Dianna?’ Evelyn asked with a sad look, she wasn’t happy that her best friend was here at a time like this when there was a vampire sitting in the room that had turned her into his kind.

Dianna was about speak to Evelyn when she noticed Logan and she smiled, ‘Hi’ Dianna said, stretching her hand for a hand shake.

‘Hi’ Logan said in reply taking Dianna’s hand; they held each other’s hand for a while until Dianna blushed when she noticed that she was starring for too long.

She averted her face and looked at her friend Evelyn who had been starring at her neck the whole time.

‘What is wrong with you?’ Dianna asked, worried about the weird looks her friend was giving her.

‘You have to leave, now!’ Evelyn said in reply, not wanting to hurt her friend in any way.

‘You do realize you wouldn’t be able to hold back for too long’ Logan said.

‘Hold back what?’ Dianna questioned giving Logan a glance, but when she turned back to face Evelyn, she wasn’t on her seat anymore.

Evelyn eyes were dark red and full of blood lust which Logan could even feel radiating off her, she had gone to the door of the office trying to leave before she hurt her friend.

The amazed Logan just looked on; indeed it was rare to see newbies with that amount of control.

Dianna was in a state of total confusion; ‘what is was wrong with her?’ she questioned, still very puzzled with Evelyn’s strange behaviour.

‘She’s trying to control her bloodlust’ Logan told her looking at the door, Evelyn had left for a while now and Dianna rushed out too, she knew about the vampires and she felt that the handsome man just now, must have turned her friend.

Dianna caught up to Evelyn who was moving at a slow pace and placed her hand in front of her, calmly telling the surprised Evelyn to drink, she had the feeling someone would get hurt if Evelyn did not fed as soon as possible.

Logan who was behind them was surprised, he had felt there was something special about Dianna but he did not imagine she would figure out what was up with Evelyn just from the little explanation he gave her, nor did he expect her to feed Evelyn her blood which made Logan feel uneasy.

He had never met a human willing to feed a vampire, blood. 'Is this what it means to be humane? Or is she just altruistic?' he asked himself, also wondering if Dianna would be different if she was a vampire...

A few seconds later Evelyn took Dianna who had fainted as a result of the loss of too much blood to the parking lot while Logan followed quietly behind, she opened her BMW-X7 series and had Dianna stay in the back with Logan as she sat in the driver seat, revved the car’s engine to life and skilfully drove out of the parking lot.

Logan looked out of the window into the crowded streets of the city as the car drove to Evelyn’s home; he was puzzled with today’s event.

Dianna’s kindness had an effect on his cold heart and he gave the sleeping beauty whose head was on his lap a glance.

‘She is beautiful, maybe too beautiful…’ he thought, suddenly feeling like giving her forehead a kiss; he stared out of the window once again.

'There might just be hope for me to fulfil my ambition... and I guess it doesn't matter how long it takes, as long as I take the right steps and do it with the right people' he thought, glancing at Dianna who was starting to wake up.
