"You'll never find someone like me."

Wendy stood still, allowing the words to process. At least she tried to. The perpetrator of those words, her boyfriend, Donald 'Donny' Allen, had a victorious smirk on his face. A smirk that had put her on edge in the past and had a psychological effect on her. That smirk was now repulsive. Wendy felt the urge to regurgitate the lunch she had hours ago. How did she ever find him attractive? What was she thinking the whole time the two of them were in a relationship?

As Wendy watched him wait for her next move, she delved into memory lane. She realisedthat she was a fool. She was a fool to ever believe that something would come out of this one sided relationship. It was always about him. Everything was always about him. She had sacrificed a lot to make him happy. Her freedom, her convenience, her happiness but never received anything in return. She had lied at work several times, claiming that she was ill, all in a bid to go see him. But he never for once showed any gratitude. She had gone to his family home in the past at his request and she had almost melted to the ground in embarrassment when his mother blatantly stated that he could do better than bringing a woman that looked so 'plain' to her house. Wendy had been offended by the statement. What was wrong with the way she looked? She wore minimal makeup. A touch of small lip gloss on her thin lips was all it took for her to feel pretty. She never wore lipstick. She never applied blush to her lightly freckled cheeks and she didn't apply mascara; her eyelashes were long enough. And yet the old woman had the gall to call her plain. She had expected some kind of defense from Donny on her behalf but instead, Donny had apologised to his mom, claiming Wendy would do better. As they drove out of the home that day, Wendy ignored the signs that the relationship would go nowhere. She should have known that that was a downward spiral. But she stayed. She stayed with a blind faith. A faith that he would change. A faith that he would see that she was more than just an ornament.

Wendy shook her head and held back a bitter laugh as her mind returned to the present. What brought about the argument that led to his statement, one might ask? It was sex. Unprotected sex. Wendy had come to his place, hoping that they could hang out but all he wanted was a tussle under the sheets. And as Wendy knew, he was not a fan of rubber. She calmly protested that it was the wrong time of the month to do so. When he ignored her statement of a possible pregnancy, which she wasn't ready for, he blatantly suggested an abortion.

Murder? Wendy was livid beneath the calm facade she tried to put on in front of him. She knew he was a self centered prick, but tossing away an innocent life all because of a few minutes of pleasure was outrightly insane and the fact that Donny did so with so much boldness and a straight face made her want to knock him out cold. Physically, it was impossible though to the difference in their build, but the thought seemed comforting, nonetheless. She had refused his advances and that had set him off into a tirade of curses and frustration. To her own surprise, she didn't budge. She stayed calm and watch him tire himself out until she finally dropped the news. She was done. Donny thought she was bluffing until he gazed into the round orbs of her blue eyes and saw the steel that reflected within.

"I will never find someone like you?" Wendy picked up her bag and slung it over her shoulder. "For once we both agree on something. You are the biggest egotistical, selfish and arrogant jerk that I've ever met. I pray and hope I don't ever see someone like you."

Wendy saw his jaw budge. His eyes widened with rage and his nose flared like a dragon that was about to release flames from them.

"What did you just say?" he growled.

"You heard me." She stood her ground. "Oh, were you expecting me to crawl to your knees like a slave to a tyrant king? Then you've got another thing coming, Donald."

Donny flinched at her usage of his full name. Throughout their relationship, she never used his full name.

"I made you important," he snapped. " If I never came into your life, you never would have seen joy in your life!"

"Again you make this about you," she retorted. "You really think all I saw was happiness with you? Wrong. All I saw was hell. I was even thinking you would be mature for once and consider my well-being and happiness but no, you never did. Everything was about you. I'm sick of this. I'm sick of you."

Wendy stormed towards the door but his voice sounded behind her.

"If you open that door and leave, just know that will be the biggest mistake you've ever made."

Wendy held the handle and opened the door. She stepped out and spun round to give him a murderous glare.

"No,Donald," she said. "The biggest mistake I made was being with you. And I pity the next poor woman you would ensnare."

Wendy slammed the door shut before he could reply. Making her way out of the building, she exhaled. She was free. She signalled a taxi and stepped in. She gave the driver her directions and the vehicle zoomed off immediately.

Wendy glanced sideways at the setting sun reflecting in the sideway mirror and grinned sadly at the symbolism of the moment. The setting sun was reflecting an end to a false romance. A romance that she tried so hard and wasted two years of her life to salvage. She leaned into her seat and sighed. There was going to be lots of inevitable I told you so speech from a lot of her friends. Some of whom could see clear enough that Donny was a self centered douce bag while she was blinded by her false hope. She just hoped she had enough strength to handle the speech. But for now, all she needed was a warm bath at home to calm herself down and get on with her life. Surprisingly enough, she discovered that the break up didn't hurt. Either it was because of the fact that she initiated it or because of her epiphany of delusion, she couldn’t fanthom why. He said she would never find a guy like like him. What a load of bull.

The driver switched on the radio and a classic by the musical group, Westlife, came up. The lyrics of 'Can't believe that I was fooled again' blared. Wendy glared at the radio, wishing that her gaze could burn it to smitherings. There was no need for the universe to rub it in and make fun of her failed relationship. The driver caught her gaze and raised a sceptical brow.

"Is everything alright, ma'am?" he asked.

"Yeah." Wendy gave a tight lipped smile and with all the politeness she could muster, added, "Could you change the station, please?"

The driver frowned a bit at her request but shrugged nonetheless.

"Of course."

He switched to the next station to Wendy's relief. However, it was shortlived as another song came up. 'I hate this part' by the musical group, The pussycat dolls came up and Wendy gritted her teeth.

"Oh, come on," she whispered and slammed her head back into the seat.

"Is this better?" The driver asked, oblivious of her ongoing torture.

"Sure," she replied, the sarcasm dripping in her voice clearly missed by the driver.

As the driver nodded his head to the lyrics of the song, Wendy wished she could teleport from the vehicle and appear in her room.

Half an hour later, the taxi parked by her apartment and she stepped out, after paying for the fare. Inside the building, she found Megan by the couch, watching a reality show. The blonde woman raised her head from the couch and smiled at her.

"Hey, you're early," Megan said. "How did it go?"

Wendy stood in silence debating within herself wether she should just tell her flatmate the truth or just go in and take a bath. While the latter option seemed appealing, she knew Megan would find out. And if she did at a later time, she would not be pleased. Megan and her had a sisterhood friendship since Wendy moved in to the apartment two years ago. Apart from the rent, they shared some things in common. Wendy saw Megan as a free spirited version of herself who did what she felt was right and was never judgemental except when the situation called for it. Megan was a waitress by day and a stripper by night. And by the angels, she had the body to match. She was curvy and attractive with deep blue eyes and thick pouty lips, in contrast to Wendy's slim and slender figure. The two jobs Megan worked was enough to pay for the rent and maintenance of other building expenses while Wendy's job as an application programmer for the country’s most successful technology company M.T tech was enough to maintain a decent standard of living. Wendy sometimes envied her flatmate and wished she could be like her. The blonde bombshell could get any man she want and proved it by bringing different men to the apartment for a rendezvous. Megan didn't see romance as realistic. All she cared about was a tussle under the sheets and that was about it. But beside that, Wendy knew she was sweet and supportive. And that was all she need.

"We broke up," Wendy answered Megan's question. "Donny and I are no longer a thing."

Megan's eyes widened and she dropped the remote. "You mean its over?"

"Yes." Wendy nodded.

There was a heavy slience. Then Megan shot up from the couch.

"It's about time, girlfriend!" she piped, making Wendy wince. "You should have done this ages ago. I knew that asshole was no good. I told you so!"

Wendy groaned internally. That last sentence was was what she had been trying to avoid. She couldn’t fanthom why but she hated that sentence like a plague. It reminded her of the fact that even if she was a nerd, she was still prone to errors and mistakes. She remembered when she was younger and in her pre-teen years. Those days when her parents and her big sister,Gwen, would reprimand her after she stubbornly refused their warnings and stubbornly made a decision that came back to bite her in the ass. Those four words stung like a bee.

Megan then paused in the middle of her ecitement.

"What caused the breakup?" she asked.

Wendy threw herself on the sofa. "He wanted us to have sex. Told him about my ovulation and the risk of a pregnancy. He suggested we go on and abort if it happens. I refused. He went off the grid and I shut him down. We broke up. The end."

Wendy caught her breath. She was amazed at how fast she was able to say all that in one breath. Her amazement intensified when she saw the fury on Megan's face.

"That self-centered, pig-faced, limp-dicked son of a bitch!" Megan yelled. "I can't beleive that fuck-face suggested that!"

Wendy chuckled at the swear words coming out of her friend's mouth while worried that the tirade could attract attention from their landlord whose flat was nearby. The man had a family with three kids all below the age of ten.

"Yeah, he did," she said.

"Fuck," Megan growled. "I wish I was there. I would have castrated him and fed him his balls."

"As much as I belive you," Wendy grimaced at the gory scene imagined, " I don't think there would be much to cut out anyway."

"Gross!" Megan gagged. "That, I do not need to know. I love my men with big dicks and huge balls."

Wendy deadpanned at her. There was a long silence and then the two women broke into fit's of giggles.

"Thanks," Wendy said. "I needed that."

"No problem, girlfriend," Megan rubbed her shoulders. "You just go in and relax. Trust me, it will be over before you know it and that douche will be wiped from your memory."

There was a knock on the door. The two women glanced towards it.

"Are you expecting someone?" Wendy asked.

"Yeah." A sheepish grin appeared on Megan's face. She walked towards the door and opened it. A man stepped in. Wendy took notice of his looks immediately. He had a slim, muscular build and good looks as a bonus. Dark green eyes and thick eyebrows. Wendy had to give it to her friend. The woman had good taste in picking her fuckmates.

"Hi." The man took notice of Wendy's presence and waved a hand.

"Hello." Wendy nodded.

"Wendy, this is Zack. Zack, Wendy." Megan made the introductions short and quick. Wendy knew why. She could see Megan's thighs rubbing together impatiently. Zack could see it too.

"Pleased to meet you." Wendy had an amused grin as she stood up.

"Yeah." Zack rubbed the back of his neck in discomfort.

Wendy made her way into her room and changed into a different clothing. As much as she would like to relax at home, she wasn't looking forward to the loud noises that would come from Megan's room in thirty minutes time. She didn’t need a reminder of the reason she was single at the moment. She needed a distraction. She needed to unwind and there was only one place to go.

The club.
