Introduction
For five years, Serena Moretti lived as the wife of one of the world's most powerful businessmen. To outsiders, her life looked perfect—a luxurious mansion, endless wealth, and a husband every woman admired. But behind closed doors, Serena carried a painful secret. Damiano Moretti never truly chose her. Although they were married, his heart remained tied to Isabella Romano, the woman he could never forget. Night after night, Serena watched her husband prioritize another woman while she silently endured the loneliness of a marriage built on obligation instead of love. After years of heartbreak, Serena finally reaches her breaking point. This time, she won't beg. This time, she won't wait. This time, she will walk away. But the moment Serena leaves, Damiano begins to realize the truth he spent years ignoring. The woman who stood beside him through every storm was never Isabella. It was Serena. As dangerous family secrets surface, rival business empires collide, and old enemies emerge from the shadows, Serena and Damiano are forced back into each other's lives. The question is no longer whether Damiano loves Serena. The question is whether Serena can ever forgive him. Sometimes the deepest wounds are caused by the people we love most. And sometimes, the greatest regret comes too late.

The crystal chandelier above the dining table cast a warm golden glow across the room, illuminating every polished surface of the Moretti mansion. Everything was perfect.

Everything except Serena Moretti's marriage.

She sat alone at the twelve-seat dining table, her untouched dinner growing colder with every passing minute. The clock on the wall ticked steadily, each second reminding her that her husband was late once again.

11:47 PM.

Serena glanced at her phone.

No messages.

No calls.

No explanation.

A familiar ache settled in her chest.

Five years.

Five years of marriage, and she still waited for him.

The servants had long since gone to bed. The chef had asked twice if he should reheat the food. Serena had politely declined both times.

Deep down, she already knew the answer.

Damiano wasn't coming home for dinner.

Just like yesterday.

And the day before that.

And countless nights before.

The sound of a car pulling into the driveway broke the silence.

Serena's heart betrayed her by leaping with hope.

Maybe tonight would be different.

Maybe tonight he would choose her.

She stood from her chair and smoothed her dress.

A few moments later, the front door opened.

Voices drifted through the hallway.

A man's deep laugh.

A woman's soft laughter.

The hope inside Serena died instantly.

She knew that laugh.

And she knew who it belonged to.

Isabella Romano.

Damiano entered the dining room first, loosening his tie as he walked. His dark hair was slightly messy, and the expensive watch on his wrist caught the light.

He stopped when he saw Serena.

"You're still awake?"

The casual question hurt more than it should have.

Serena looked past him.

Isabella stood near the doorway, looking uncomfortable.

Beautiful as always.

Elegant.

Confident.

Everything Serena had spent years trying not to compare herself to.

"I was waiting for dinner," Serena replied quietly.

Damiano glanced at the table.

"You shouldn't have."

Serena felt her throat tighten.

The dinner she had personally planned.

The meal she had hoped they would share together.

Reduced to a simple sentence.

You shouldn't have.

"I thought we could eat together."

"I already ate."

Of course he had.

And judging by Isabella's expression, Serena already knew who he had eaten with.

An awkward silence filled the room.

Finally, Isabella spoke.

"Serena, I'm sorry."

Serena looked at her.

The strange thing was that she didn't hate Isabella.

Not really.

Because Isabella had never made promises to Serena.

Damiano had.

Isabella had never vowed to love Serena forever.

Damiano had.

Every wound in Serena's heart carried his name.

Not Isabella's.

"There is nothing for you to apologize for," Serena said softly.

Damiano frowned.

"Enough."

Enough?

Serena almost laughed.

For five years she had stayed silent.

For five years she had accepted disappointment after disappointment.

And somehow she was the one who needed to stop.

Without another word, Serena turned and walked away.

Neither of them followed her.

That hurt most of all.

Inside her bedroom, Serena closed the door and leaned against it.

The room felt enormous.

Empty.

Cold.

Just like every night.

She walked toward the dressing table and stared at her reflection in the mirror.

Dark hair.

Green eyes.

A face magazines often called beautiful.

Yet somehow beauty had never been enough.

Slowly, she removed her wedding ring.

The diamond sparkled beneath the bedroom lights.

Five years ago, Damiano had slipped it onto her finger and promised her a lifetime.

Looking back, she wondered if he had ever meant those words.

A knock sounded at the door.

For one foolish second, hope returned.

Maybe he had come after her.

Maybe he finally cared.

She opened the door.

A maid stood there holding an envelope.

"Mrs. Moretti, this arrived for you earlier today."

Serena accepted it.

"Thank you."

Once alone again, she opened the envelope.

Inside was a letter from her father.

Her eyes widened as she read the first line.

Serena,

I have remained silent for five years because I believed your marriage deserved a chance. But I can no longer watch my daughter suffer.

If Damiano cannot see your worth, then he does not deserve you.

Come home.

It's time to choose yourself.

Tears blurred her vision.

For years she had chosen Damiano.

Chosen patience.

Chosen hope.

Chosen love.

Perhaps her father was right.

Perhaps it was finally time to choose herself.

Outside, thunder rolled across the night sky.

Serena folded the letter carefully.

A decision was forming in her heart.

One that would change everything.

One that Damiano Moretti would never see coming.

And for the first time in years, the future no longer frightened her.

It called to her.

And she was finally ready to answer.
