The SAIGEN project began in the year 21XX, this project is said to be the solution for human extinction, after endless outbreaks after outbreaks, natural disasters and many more world problems cutting down the population and food resources, scientists around the globe have agreed that this project could save the future of humanity and have gathered to help, building the perfect machine, a DNA cloning device. The people behind the project took years before it was finally let known to the public.

It took another 6 years before the SAIGEN project was finally finished, they've announced that they'll be needing more than a hundred volunteers to test out the new device. The population has decreased to a few billions, and almost over a thousand people have volunteered. They were sent to different facilities to conduct experiments on, before they were allowed to use the device. The experiments were mostly focused on human survival, testing out how much the human body can take, how fast they can think of a way out of danger, and how long they can survive in different dangerous situations: bleeding, drowning, and so on.

The people who are able to get through all the experiments will immediately be sent to the laboratory, where they will conduct a final experiment on the remaining test subjects.

After all the experiments, the scientists will have to take a lot of DNA samples from each individual who passes. The device needs a lot of DNA samples for it to produce another body, a clone. The future of humanity is on the hands of the people behind the SAIGEN project.

The scientists of the SAIGEN project expected that none of the 957 test subjects could make it out alive after the experiments, they said there was only a 2.57% chance that one of them could make it, and one actually did.

Ella Yoshida, 22, born on the 26th of February, 20XX. Blood Type A. 5 feet 8 inches, weighing about 145lbs. Pale skin, black medium-length hair, and green/brown eyes. Sexuality not specified. Never been married nor had any past relationships but has a good and stable life in Ontario, an only child of a Russian descent, and a Japanese immigrant. Graduated from art school, but has a remarkable knowledge of engineering. She's got nothing to lose.

Yoshida has gone through the experiments and completed all of them without complaints, which is what they've been needing for the project, the last piece to the puzzle, the 'perfect' human being they need more on this planet to make it a better place, the answer to human extinction.

The result showed that Yoshida was the most compatible to use the new device, seeing as she was able to survive through all the hardship she had to go through, passed all the tests that she was given and showed an ability to learn and do more things than an average human being can do. With more of her, the world would advance easily to the future that everyone has been dreaming of.

Ella Yoshida will now be sent to the capsule to have her DNA samples taken. Her own flesh and blood will be needed in the process. It'll be a slow and painful 24-hours process, but it'll sure produce about a hundred or more clones in less than ten days. It'll be a huge leap into the future.

"Happy birthday!" my mother greeted me by the doorway as she held a box of cake, I smiled down at her, letting her in my apartment. I was so caught up on my schedule that I'd have forgotten all about my birthday- my mother was like my events calendar, she'd always come here to let me know what day it was, if there was a celebration, she'd let me know and we'd spend the day together. Those days were the only times I'd took a day off. I shouldn't be working at all since I was financially stable, but it was the only thing to make me feel like I have a purpose in life. During these times, it's hard to believe that we were actually put in this world for a reason. What was that reason? I have no idea, and at this point no one else does too. The world's ending for us, it's all over the news- a couple thousands die each day and we still haven't got a clue how to fix this.

My mother has always been by my side, comforting me as much as she can, but she can't live with me, since my father loves our old house more, and for him, leaving it would be as if he's leaving his childhood behind. I would never be angry at him about it, I'd go back to live with them, but it would mean having to quit my job, since he liked to baby me so much- I wanted to become more independent, so I moved out, my apartment was closer to my art school, it was a relief, just having to walk without spending too much for the transportation. My father got a little upset with me since I moved out- I only get to talk to him through the telephone since he wasn't really allowed to go out at all, mother never told me or what happened to him since I left the house, sometimes I feel like he was more than upset when I left.

We sat on my couch, putting the cake down. Mother changed channels more than 20 times by now before turning it off to realise it was only news on almost every channel, I could tell she doesn't want to ruin the mood with homicide, protests and whatever was on the news these days. It's funny to see how my mother is trying so hard to shove me away from reality when I'm already an adult- takes me back to a peaceful childhood I can barely remember. She's always been so protective, my father was a lot less strict than she was, and she's never changed even after 15 years.

"So how's life here so far?" She asked as she began to open the box of cake, getting up to go to the kitchen. "Well, it's good, I've already paid my rent for next month so you don't have to worry about anything." I responded, looking down at the red velvet cake. "I thought you'd get me a princess themed cake again." I jokingly said, as she came back with small plates, sitting beside me, handing me a plate with a spoon, "Well since you're an 'adult' I thought I'd get you this- no candles, since blowing candles isn't an adult thing." She said as she began slicing the cake. "That goes for wishing too, huh?" I responded under my breath. She looked at me, nodding as she put a slice of cake on my plate, "Well, I'm pretty sure your wishes have already come true."

The T.V suddenly turned on, showing the words 'The SAIGEN Project' on the screen, as a video started playing. The only times it would turn on by itself is when the government needs to announce something really important, and I guess they're still trying to find a way to stop the extinction, just like everyone else on this planet. "-We are the people behind this project, and we're here today, live worldwide to announce that we are needing about a thousand volunteers for this project- We know what the situation is, and our solution for this- The SAIGEN project will be the biggest leap into a brighter future for humanity- We've built a cloning device, and we want you... to help us- We want you, the people, to be the final pieces for this puzzle, to complete this project. We need to work together for our future."

Days have passed since the announcement, from time to time you'd hear the helicopters roaming around, hovering above the buildings, patrolling. It can be a nuisance but the government has their reasons. I peeked from the closed curtains to see that there were people lining up inside a building, I could hear the faint yelling from up here, there was another fight going on down there as well, I could see a suitcase being thrown out and a woman, probably around the same age as me being pushed along with a few more suitcases. I immediately took my robe, putting it on as I head downstairs, it was our landlady that took out her things, she was yelling at the woman and I could see a glimpse of a few people staring from outside. "Calm down, Mrs. Lau, you're making a scene!" I told her as a grabbed on her shoulder, she looked at me, taking a deep breath. "She hasn't been paying her rent! It's been four months already!" she complained to me, I looked over Mrs. Lau's shoulder to see the woman picking her things off the ground.

I called out to the woman to come back, as Mrs. Lau turned to face her, continuing to complain how she still haven't paid her rent. I began to get irritated, cutting in their conversation, "I'll just pay her rent." I blurted out without thinking, and they both looked at me. The woman smiled at me, thanking me, while Mrs. Lau went over to the counter. The next thing I knew, the woman frequently visited me on the third floor in my apartment, thanking me over and over again for paying her rent, at first it was annoying but then I realised I actually made friends with someone in this apartment. I later found out her name was Anna and she volunteered to take part in the project, making me wonder if I should take part into it as well- I mean would it hurt to try? I asked her about the people who were lining up the other day, and she said those people were the other volunteers, she didn't mention anything else other than that, but she suggested I should try it out since we didn't have much of an option to preserve human kind.
