"I'm back."
A short text message on the mobile phone screen left Emma Blake dazed for a long time.
Zara Linwood said she's back.
Emma knew what this woman's return meant all too well in her heart.
It seemed the days ahead weren't going to be peaceful.
Perhaps she was too absorbed by the text message that she didn't notice the footsteps behind her until a phone was snatched from her hand: "Who said you could touch my phone?"
"Zara, back?" Emma glanced at the man before her with a mock smile.
Tyler Brooks, her husband of three years.
"Does this concern you? Emma, don't forget why I married you in the first place!" For Emma, Tyler had always been dissatisfied, even hateful.
This, Emma had always known.
All these years had passed, and he still did not consider her as his wife from the heart, only marrying her to repay a favor.
Although sad, the tone of Emma's reply was still so casual: "Of course I remember. If my father hadn't died to save your grandmother, you wouldn't have listened to your family and married me."
Tyler cast her an indifferent glance: "Since you know it, then perform your role as Mrs. Brooks in name, and don't presume to meddle in my private affairs!"
Perform her role as Mrs.Brooks?
Now that Zara is back, her position as Mrs. Brooks might not be so secure anymore!
Thinking of this, Emma's sarcastic tone became even more apparent: "Since you've married me, but still maintain lingering feelings with other women, don't you think it's a bit too much?"
"Too much?" There was sudden anger on Tyler's usually placid face. He clutched her chin and stared at her stunning face: "For the position of Mrs. Brooks, you forced Linwood to go abroad. Do you know what kind of life she's living now?"
A few months before, he had happened to travel to the city where Zara Linwood was staying for work, and they met.
Zara Linwood's grim situation only deepened his hatred towards Emma.
"How her life is, what business is it of mine? Tyler, do you know your choice of women is terrible!" Emma snickered, despite the discomfort of having her chin clutched, she didn't resist.
"Do you have the right to judge Linwood's quality? Don't forget, you're the dirty one!" Tyler glared at her with obvious anger in his eyes.
Yes, in his eyes, she was a tainted woman.
Despite Tyler's sarcasm, Emma didn’t show any sadness. On the contrary, she laughed beautifully: "Even if I'm dirty, you've still touched me, right? Mr. Brooks, are you trying to act like you don't know me now? Weren't you quite vigorous earlier?"
Her laughter sent Tyler's face dark with fury, like he was pushing away trash, he shoved Emma to the ground: "Get out!"
Tyler left the room immediately after.
In the deathly silence, Emma gave a bitter smile. "In this world, probably the hardest thing to warm up is your heart, Tyler.”
The argument that night, along with a text message, successfully kept Emma from sleeping.
By the time she woke up the next day, her head was groggy. But she still pushed herself to get out of bed.
Because, she had to go to work.
Recently, her company had recommended her and a few other designers to participate in the Elegant Wedding Dress Design competition.
Her lifelong dream was to become the best wedding dress designer.
Yet, she herself has never worn a wedding dress.
It is somewhat ironic, when you think about it.
"Good morning, Designer Blake."
"Good morning." After arriving at the office, Emma greeted her colleagues with a smile.
Just as she stepped towards the elevator, her sight suddenly blacked out, and she uncontrollably started to fall backward.
She initially thought that she would fall to the ground, but instead, she found herself in a warm embrace.
