The moment Kiara Vale stepped into the headquarters of Vale Corporation, she knew something was wrong.

Her heels clicked sharply against the polished marble floor as she walked through the lobby, each step echoing through the unusually quiet space.

Normally, employees would greet her with respectful smiles and hurried nods.

Not today.

Today, conversations stopped the moment she passed.

People looked at her, Some with pity, Some with disgust.

Others quickly lowered their eyes as if they were afraid she might catch them staring.

Kiara slowed for half a second, What the hell was going on?

She continued walking, her face remaining perfectly composed despite the uneasiness building in her chest.

Her phone suddenly rang.It was her assistant.

Kiara answered immediately.

“Ma'am…”

Her assistant's voice sounded nervous.

“There seems to be an issue. You need to come to the meeting room right now.”

Kiara frowned.

“What kind of issue?”

There was a brief silence.

“I—I think it's better if you come here yourself.”

The call ended.

Kiara stared at her phone for a moment.

That wasn't normal.

Nothing about today was normal.

She tightened her grip around her phone and headed toward the executive meeting room.

As she approached the door, she could already feel the tension hanging in the air.

She pushed it open.

Everyone was there.

Her grandfather sat at the head of the table.

Her father was seated beside him.

Her stepmother sat quietly, her hands folded in her lap.

Several members of the board were present too.

But the moment Kiara walked in, every conversation stopped.

She looked around the room.

“Grandfather?”

Her grandfather didn't even look at her. “Stand there.”

Kiara's eyebrows pulled together. “What?”

“Don't bother taking a seat.”

Her breath caught halfway up her throat and stayed there.

She slowly closed the door behind her.

Her eyes moved from one person to another.

Nobody would meet her gaze.

Not her father or her stepmother.

Not even the board members who had spent years praising her leadership.

“What is going on?”

She could hear the chair beside her squeaking, kiara's patience began to disappear.

She crossed her arms,“I asked what is going on.”

Her grandfather finally lifted his eyes to her,His expression was cold.

“We have reached a decision.”

Kiara waited.

“I spoke to the board, and we decided to have a vote to remove you as the Chief Executive Officer of Vale Corporation, and out of 33 board members, 22 voted you out.”

Kiara didn't understand what she had just heard.

“All this happened without me knowing

Then she laughed.

Once.

A short, disbelieving laugh.

“You're joking.”

The air conditioner kicked on with a low hum. No one moved.

Kiara searched their faces for a crack, a smile, anything that said just kidding. Her grandfather folded his hands on the table.

“You're actually serious?”

Her grandfather remained expressionless.

“What is the reason for the decision?” she asked, staring at himm

Behind her, someone shifted in their chair. The leather creaked.

She looked at her father, waiting for an answer

Then at the rest of the board.

“I worked hard for this company.”

Her voice was quiet.

“I spent years working for this company. I took over when nobody believed I could handle it. I worked until three in the morning. I turned failing departments around. I brought in clients you couldn't secure.”

Her eyes hardened.

“And now you want to sit here and tell me I'm fired?”

Her father finally spoke.

“Kiara, let's talk about this at home.”

She snapped her head toward him.

“No.”

Her voice echoed across the room.

“I want an explanation now.”

Her father looked uncomfortable.

Then he glanced at her grandfather.

Only after receiving a small nod did he continue.

“We conducted DNA tests.”

Kiara's expression changed.

“DNA tests?”

“we tested both you and your siblings.”

She stared at him.

“And?”

Her father's jaw tightened.

“The results showed that you aren't a biological Vale.”

She looked at him

“He's not bluffing.”

For several seconds, nobody moved.

Then her father continued.

Your mother must have been with another man before she became pregnant with you. She deceived me and passed you off as my daughter.”

Kiara's fingers curled slowly into her palms.

Her father looked away.

“You aren't true Vale blood. And you know how important that is to this family.”

She almost couldn't believe what she was hearing.

“True blood?”

Her voice cracked into a bitter laugh.

“So that's what this is about?”

Her grandfather finally spoke.

“Bloodline matters. The company belongs to this family, you know.”

“And apparently, I am not.”

Before grandmother passed, she always told Kiara about how the ancestors started this company, and how much they despise anyone who isn't their blood taking charge, but this still sounds ridiculous to her

Her father cleared his throat.

“We've decided that your brother will take over as CEO.”

Kiara stared at him.

Then she laughed again.

This time, there was no disbelief in it.

Only bitterness.

So that's it?

She looked around the table.

“After everything I've done?”

Nobody answered.

Kiara nodded slowly.

“I understand.”

Her stepmother reached for her water glass, took a sip that lasted too long, and set it down, then finally spoke

“Kiara, don't misunderstand us. You can still remain with the company. We could give you a managerial position.

Kiara turned toward her.

“A managerial position?”

Her stepmother nodded cautiously.

“You're talented. There's no reason for you to leave completely.”

Kiara stared at her for several seconds.

Then she smiled.

It wasn't a warm smile.

It was the kind of smile that made the room uncomfortable.

“I don't need your pity.”

Her stepmother fell silent.

Kiara looked around the table one final time.

All those years.

All those sleepless nights.

Every sacrifice.

Every deal she fought for.

Every time she had defended this family name.

And this was how they repaid her.

Not because she had failed.

Not because the company was suffering.

But because a piece of paper had told them she wasn't worthy of their name,

her eyes burned.

For one terrifying second, she thought she might cry.

Don't.

She swallowed hard.

Don't cry, Kiara.

Not here.

Not in front of them.

They didn't deserve her tears,She straightened her shoulders, Lifted her chin.

And walked toward the door.

Her father called after her.

“Kiara"

She stopped.

But she didn't turn around.

“Don't.”

Her voice was barely above a whisper.

“Don't call me.”

Then she opened the door.

Her heels clicked against the marble floor again as she walked away.

One step.

Two.

Three.

Not a single tear fell from her eyes.

Her hands were shaking when she pressed the elevator button.

But as the elevator doors closed in front of her, Kiara's expression changed.

She stared at her reflection in the metal doors. Same face. Same eyes.

But her grandmother's pendant was cold against her collarbone, the one piece of Vale jewelry she'd never taken off.

She reached back and unclasped it.

The elevator arrived at the parking lot, She stepped outside with the chain still wrapped around her fingers.
