Alice Sage’s heart raced as she stood before the imposing gates of the Gates family mansion. The weight of her mother’s well-being pressed heavily upon her, urging her to take action. With medical bills piling up and time running out , she knew she needed to find a significant amount of money and needed to find it quickly.

Summoning her courage, Alice pressed the intercom button, her voice quivering with both hope and anxiety. ‘’I’m Alice Sage,’’ she announced. ‘’I’m here to apply for the housemaid position.’’

After a tense moment, the gates slowly creaked open, granting her entry into a world of wealth and privilege. As she stepped through the gates, Alice couldn’t help but feel a mix of excitement and apprehension. The grandeur of the mansion before her took her breath away, tall and majestic building, surrounded by lush gardens and manicured lawns. Luxury cars lined the driveway, a testament to the opulence within. It stood as a symbol of a lifestyle she had only dreamed of- a life that held the promise of financial security for her and more importantly, the means to support her mother’s medical needs.

As Alice made her way towards the entrance, lost in admiration of her new surroundings, she suddenly felt a jolt as someone bumped into her. Startled, she looked up to find Elliot, the son of the Gates family, absorbed in his phone.

"Hi, sorry," Elliot muttered, briefly glancing up from his phone before quickly stepping aside to let Alice pass. His apology was short but sincere, and Alice couldn't help but be captivated by his presence. She watched as he walked away, his confident stride and captivating aura leaving a lasting impression.

Collecting herself, Alice continued her journey into the mansion. Inside, a stern housekeeper greeted her, leading her through the grand corridors to a sitting room. The housekeeper's stern demeanor contrasted with the elegance of the mansion, but Alice remained composed, determined to make a good impression.

In the sitting room, Alice took a moment to compose herself, her heart still fluttering from her encounter with Elliot. She reminded herself of her purpose there—to secure a job as the new maid and earn money for her family. The weight of her mother's illness and the financial burdens they faced motivated Alice to give her best in this opportunity.

Finally, the door swung open, and Maddison Gates, the matriarch of the family, entered the room. Maddison's presence commanded attention and respect. With her perfectly coiffed blonde hair and piercing blue eyes, she exuded an air of sophistication and authority. Her slender figure and impeccable sense of fashion added to her aura of grace and poise.

"Good morning, Madam," Alice greeted, her voice tinged with a mixture of nerves and respect.

"Good morning, Alice Sage," Maddison replied, her tone reflecting a sense of formality and authority. "You shall address me as Madam, not 'ma'am.'"

"Yes, Madam," Alice quickly corrected herself, realizing her slip-up. She took a deep breath, trying to steady her nerves as she met Maddison's discerning gaze with determination and sincerity.

"Now, tell me about yourself," Maddison demanded, her sharp eyes studying Alice intently. "Share with me the important details."

Alice gathered her thoughts, carefully choosing her words to convey her background, experience, and willingness to adapt and learn. She spoke with confidence, highlighting her strong work ethic, her ability to perform various household chores, and her understanding of the high standards expected in a position of this nature.

With their initial exchange drawing to a close, Maddison nodded thoughtfully, seemingly satisfied with Alice's responses. "Very well, Alice," Maddison finally spoke, her voice carrying a hint of approval. "I will give you a chance. But make no mistake—the role of a housemaid in this household is demanding, and we have high expectations. Are you prepared to undertake the responsibilities that come with this position?"

Alice met Maddison's gaze with unwavering determination, her voice filled with conviction. "Yes, Madam. I understand the expectations, and I am ready to work diligently and meet them. I am grateful for the opportunity you have granted me."

A faint smile tugged at the corners of Maddison's lips, a glimmer of hope shining in her eyes. "Good. Dedication and excellence are highly valued in this household. You shall have the opportunity to prove yourself."

As those words echoed in the room, Alice felt a renewed sense of purpose. She knew that this housemaid position was her chance to change the trajectory of her life and secure the means to support her mother's medical care. With gratitude and determination in her heart, she expressed her deepest appreciation to Maddison for giving her this chance.

The same housekeeper, named Paula, appeared as Maddison addressed her. "Paula, take her to the servant quarters where she will be staying," Maddison instructed. Paula nodded in acknowledgment and gestured for Alice to follow her.

Alice fell in step behind Paula, her footsteps echoing through the grand hallway as they made their way through the mansion. As they walked, Alice couldn't help but admire the intricate details of the architecture—the ornate moldings, the sweeping staircase, the magnificent artwork that adorned the walls. It was a world unlike anything she had ever known, and she couldn't help but feel a mix of excitement and trepidation.

After a short walk, Paula led Alice to a separate wing of the mansion. The servant quarters were modest but comfortable, a stark contrast to the opulence of the main living spaces. There was a communal living area, a small kitchen, and individual rooms for each staff member. Paula showed Alice to her assigned room, a tidy space with a single bed, a small desk, and a wardrobe.

"Here's where you'll be staying," Paula said, her tone brisk yet not unkind. "You'll find the other staff members welcoming and supportive. We work as a team here."

Alice nodded, taking in her new surroundings. She appreciated Paula's straightforwardness and hoped that the camaraderie among the staff would provide some solace in this unfamiliar environment.

"As a housemaid, your duties will include cleaning the rooms, assisting with meal preparations, and attending to any other tasks assigned to you," Paula explained. "We have a strict schedule to adhere to, and punctuality is crucial."

Alice listened attentively, determined to excel in her new role. She understood that her performance would not only impact her reputation but also reflect on the Gates family as a whole.

"I will be your point of contact for any questions or concerns you may have," Paula continued. "I've been with the family for many years and know the expectations well. Don't hesitate to approach me if you need assistance."

"Thank you, Paula," Alice replied, her gratitude evident in her voice. "I appreciate your guidance, and I will do my best to fulfill my responsibilities."

Paula smiled, her eyes softening. "I believe in giving everyone a fair chance. It's up to you to prove yourself, but I have faith that you can succeed."
