It's almost midnight. I should be asleep by now. I closed my eyes one last time, hoping to fall asleep. "Come," I heard a faint whisper from outside my door. I shot up and looked around. Adrenaline pumping through my veins, I grabbed my flashlight. My hand was halfway there when I realized....someone took the batteries out. I trembled with fear and my only instinct was to scream. I opened my mouth to scream, only to be cut off by another whisper, "Shhhh." On the verge of tears I decided to girl up and walk to my door. I slowly took my covers off and walked towards the door. My hand was on the handle when I realized, my mom might just be pranking me.

I took a deep breath and decided to look anyway. I opened the door and looked outside the hallway. There was nobody here. Relieved, I closed my door. "No, child. Come outside," I heard the whisper. I froze. Outside? Outside is the forest....mom said never go into the forest at night. I shook with fear, someone is in my house. I raced to my mother's room and shook her violently. "Mother! Mother!" I cried. She's not waking up! "Mother!" I yelled. I felt hot tears building up behind my eyes. I checked her pulse, she was alive. But....why isn't she waking up? I glanced at her nightstand and saw clear liquid in a tiny bottle. I gently grabbed it and read the label, 'Gamma-hydroxybutyric'. I shook my head and tried to pronounce it. "It's no use, my dear," the whisper sounded again. I let a tear fall and said, "Who are you?"

"Follow me," it commanded. "I know how to save your mother," it whispered again. "Where are you?" I sobbed. Then, all of a sudden, a faint shadow appeared. It had a hood and cape on. Unable to see it's face, I walked closer to it. "Follow me," it said, although it wasn't a whisper. Hesitant, I said, "Save my mother." It shook it's head and said, "My dear, you'll have to come with me first." It had a calming voice but that was just a disguise. It made it's way to the door and I guess I had no choice but to follow. It opened the front door and turned to me, "Ladies first." I hesitantly stepped outside. The shadow walked towards the forest. I didn't move anywhere. "Are you coming, dear?" It asked.
