It was a long wait at the bus stop. I almost didn't find my ticket. The bus was near to my destination. I felt like I had been on the bus for several hours. It was 10 am and I was scrunched in a seat next to an older man wearing a Black jean jacket and a blue ball cap. My head was pounding. I finally got the nerve to leave and get away from the past. I had been planning to take a trip to the city, but what I didn't see coming was, my boyfriend of 2 years breaking up with me last night. My heart was hurting and I wanted to cry. I felt as if I couldn't breathe. Crying would make my headache worse. I reached in my purse to get my pain medication when the bus came to a sharp halt. My purse flew down the aisle and my head slammed into whoever was sitting in front of me. "Oh! No!"
I tried to walk into the aisle to retrieve my purse as the bus started moving again, but the bus halted once more and I flew into the lap of a strange man wearing a suit and tie. "Can I help you?" He looked annoyed, he was very handsome. He had dark hair and was clean cut. His black suit is fancy. I wonder if he's a businessman.. he must be rich. I jumped up and grabbed my purse which was down by his feet. "Excuse me, my purse is down there." I grabbed my purse, it was stuck. I was hanging onto his lap, trying to get my purse. Then something happened. I accidentally fell, pulling him down on top of me. We stared at each other for a second and then he jumped up and got back in his seat. I went back to my seat, feeling extremely humiliated.
I got off the bus and headed towards the coffee shop nearby called Coffee Haven. I walked inside and smelled the alluring aroma of coffee and baked goods. It was refreshing to walk in and feel the coolness of the air conditioner. It was early spring, the weather was slightly warm. Inside the coffee shop, It was small, with a counter of donuts, cookies, and pastries. I couldn't decide what I wanted. I had the lady put together a box of cookies and pastries for me. "Thank you so much. They smell and look so delicious. I love peanut butter cookies! They are my absolute favorite." I smiled and thanked the lady behind the counter. I went over to a table by the window. The view was spectacular. There was a river and I took in the beautiful hotel up on the hill. I doubt I could afford a room there.
"Excuse me miss?" I wanted to ask about the hotel, I had nowhere to go and only a few hundred dollars. "Yes," the lady behind the counter smiled and told me her name is Beth. "I was just curious about the hotel over there?" I pointed to where it was located. "That's The Grand Luxor Hotel. The parks own it. My grandfather used to work for them." Beth explained that they were the wealthiest in the city.
"I wanted to know about the price of a small room." I was curious. Beth laughed. One room is twice my rent for my apartment. You should go over there and check it out anyways. It's quite lovely. They have a ballroom, and they have parties every once in awhile." Beth smiled and went to make coffee. I took a deep breath. I wasn't sure where I was supposed to go. I decided to stay until the coffee shop closed.
The coffee shop closed at midnight. I sat outside by the river staring at the huge hotel. It was breathtakingly beautiful. I thought about applying for a job there, maybe I could afford a nice apartment or house to live in. I needed a good job. In the morning I could walk there, for now, I planned to sleep outside, near the river. I was very exhausted. It was a long day and I was hungry and tired.
The next morning I got up and stared at the hotel. I was excited, I couldn't wait to walk over and apply for a housekeeping position. I also had to use the restroom. It was 9 am and the coffee shop was open. I decided to clean up and get coffee first before I made my way over there.
