Amelia Grace Brown stared at her reflection in the mirror, she was pleased with how her hair and minimal makeup looked on her.
And her dress which clung to her body like a second skin made her feel sexy.
Taking in her beauty, she suddenly wondered why she had stayed with someone who didn’t deserve her. How could she stay married for four years to someone who barely treated her with respect.
Well, she had a feeling that the marriage was coming to an end soon anyway. When Damian Wright, her husband had called to tell her to come see him at his office, she had a feeling that he might finally want to talk about the way forward for the both of them.
Four years ago, Amelia had saved his grandfather’s life and Grandpa Wright grew fond of her because of that. He kept saying that she’d make a perfect wife for his grandson.
And when he showed her pictures of Damian, Amelia found him very handsome and wanted to meet him. When they met, Damian hadn’t shown any resistance, or that he didn’t like his grandfather’s arrangement.
If he had shown, Amelia wouldn’t have agreed to marry him. She just thought that sometimes, arranged marriages do work out and the couples ended up loving each other, dearly.
But she was wrong. Once she and Damian got married, he started acting so mean to her. She had thought that overtime he might change and also, they both didn’t want to break Grandpa Wright’s heart by getting divorced so she tried to put up with him until few months ago, Damian got worst.
He started to treat her with so much scorn as if she had killed someone. He belittled and degraded her every chance he got. And just few weeks ago, she got to understand why.
She had received photos of Damian in bed with a woman. And when she investigated the woman, she saw that the woman was Damian’s first love, Sophia, and they had gotten back together few months ago.
At the point, Amelia was fed up. She had felt all the sadness she had to feel, cried all the tears she had and now, she was done being a foolish wife to that man. She had her confidence back, she knew her worth and she wasn’t going to let him treat her like trash again!
**********
Amelia strode into Damian’s office without knocking.
He lifted up his head and cocked an eyebrow at the woman who had just walked in.
“Oh, you’re here.” And then he stood, grabbing a parcel from the table.
He walked up to her and opened it.
“For you.”
Amelia glanced down at it, it was an extravagant jewelry set, a solid gold necklace, bracelet and earrings, it definitely cost a fortune.
She eyed him. “Why are you giving me this?”
“Think of it as our divorce gift.” He coldly replied.
Amelia smirked. Just as she had thought.
He indeed wanted this marriage to end today. And she had also come prepared.
“I don’t need it. Give it to your mistress.” She snapped.
Surprise flashed through Damian’s eyes.
How does she know about that?
He blinked, and tried to look cool and collected.
This had to happen, eventually.
This was the best decision for him and Sophia.
He walked back to his desk and pulled out the divorce papers.
Stretching them to her, he ordered.
“Sign it.”
He was expecting her to start crying and maybe beg him to rethink the divorce.
But his eyes dilated when she took the papers from him, placing them on the table, she signed without hesitation.
Damian scoffed.
“You should know that a divorce is final, right? After this, I won’t take you back even if you go cry to Grandpa. It won’t change anything!”
Amelia laughed. “Why would I want to change anything? Does it look like I want a scumbag like you?”
Damian gasped. “How dare you speak to me that way?! You should be glad I even married someone like you in the first place! You never deserved me! You never deserved to marry into the Wright family! What do you have? Absolutely nothing. You’ve been useless to me from day one!”
He grabbed the parcel again.
“You had better accept this. It would be the most valuable possession to you, do you know how much you’d get from selling it? Maybe you can make something out of your life from it! Sophia was kind enough to tell me to leave you with something. You and I both know you deserve nothing from me.”
Being ridiculed like this stung Amelia and she wondered how she could put up with this for so long.
But she was done. This meaningless cycle of hurt and hatred was over.
“You think too highly of yourself, Damian. Do you even think a man like you could possibly offer me something tangible?” She shot back.
His jaw dropped.
He was clearly taken aback by how harsh she was being.
She was never this way before.
“Come in.” Amelia said, loudly.
A judge then walked in. She had called him in advance in case their divorce needed to be finalized.
And right now, she wanted it done as soon as possible so she wouldn’t have to put with Damian anymore.
The divorce was finalized at that point, an agreement of the properly settlement was reached and their marriage was annulled.
As soon as the judge left, Amelia stood up too, got her bag and headed for the door.
Damian was surprised by her behavior. Not even a word of farewell or anything.
And why the heck wasn’t she devastated or even bothered that they had just gotten divorced.
It felt like he was the one being bothered instead.
But this was what he wanted, still, he found himself, rushing out the door to stop Amelia.
