"I just need you to sign here." Aria said as she slid the divorce papers across the table. Her eyes stayed cool and her hands didn't dare tremble.

Her mind was clearly made up.

Diego barely looked up from his laptop to acknowledge her.

So typical of him.

In fact, she was banking on him not paying attention to the papers she was about to make him sign.

"What's that for?" He asked.

"Just some documents for this new company. The usual exhausting legal stuff."

"Oh, I see." He murmured as he drew the papers close.

He flipped to the last page without even bothering to read it.

A small smile crept across her face as she watched him sign his name.

And just like that…

Their three years of loveless marriage were suddenly reduced to nothing.

She was finally free of this man.

"Anything else?" He asked, finally looking up at her.

His demeanor was so sure and confident.

Aria was very certain that in all their years together, he had never once thought her capable of walking away from him.

But his endless lies and betrayal were finally in the open, and she was done with him.

"Nothing else." She said sweetly.

Much too sweetly to be honest. But he didn’t even notice.

"Great." He said and began rising from his chair, then reached for his jacket.

"Going somewhere?" Aria asked, watching as he slipped on the jacket.

He looked like he was running late for something.

"Just some company dinner." He came around the table and carelessly kissed her cheek.

"Don't wait up."

She resisted the urge to scoff out loud.

Company dinner?

Did he really take her for a fool?

That was the same excuse he'd used about two weeks ago, when she had been lying alone in a hospital bed, fighting for her life.

Her chest tightened at the memory.

She was hooked to an IV line while the chair by her bedside remained empty. Other wives had husbands who stayed with them all night and held their hands.

But not hers, she thought sadly.

Because hers had never even bothered to show up.

Not even after the five missed calls she had given him when she finally got the strength to give him a call.

His excuse?

A very important team meeting had popped up, and it just so happened that he was the officiator.

But it had all been a lie.

Because the following day, her phone had buzzed with a message—photos and videos—that had been sent anonymously.

The first had been a picture of Diego, her beloved husband, holding on to his secretary and smiling like he didn't have a care in the world.

Like he didn't have a bedridden wife waiting for him in the hospital.

The picture had not been blurry or vague so that she had to wonder who the people were.

It had been painfully clear.

His arm was wrapped tightly around Chloe’s waist, his fingers resting far too low to be accidental.

The second one was a video of Chloe leaning into his chest, whispering sweet nothings to him while he smiled down at her.

He looked very pleased to be there.

And the third?

That one left Aria painfully breathless.

It was a short clip. And she had watched as Chloe pressed a gentle kiss to his cheek.

And Diego had kissed her back like it was perfectly natural, like this had been going on for months.

The videos and photos had all been taken on the same day, at night… probably moments before they were sent to her.

Around the same time she had been lying alone in that hospital bed, hooked to an IV, her hands shaking, her heart racing, hoping her husband would appear.

Her stomach churned at the memory, grief and resentment twisting inside of her.

And now, standing before him, she just felt cold. She just wanted to never see his face again. understanding.

"Aria, is everything okay?” Diego asked, pulling her away from her nagging thoughts. “You're just standing there."

He was already halfway to the door.

She forced a smile and quickly nodded.

"Yes, of course. I Just thought of something important."

He smiled at her faintly. "You work too hard. You should take a day off, go to the spa or something."

"Yeah. I might take you up on that." She murmured.

“Good.” He said, and with one last nod, he left her alone in his office.

He didn't even notice something was wrong with her.

But then again, Diego barely noticed anything important about her anymore.

Once she was alone, Aria looked down at the papers he had just signed and scoffed softly.

The sting of his cold and heartless betrayal was all the motivation she needed to keep going.

"Scumbag." She whispered, curving her lips in spite of the dull ache in her chest.

“You think I'm an idiot, but I promise I'm going to make you pay."

Diego thought he was just going to dinner with his secretary.

But he had no idea he had just signed away his marriage…

And perhaps the only woman who had ever truly loved him.

Aria vowed she would make him lose far more than that.
