"Honey, it's so beautiful here!" Jillian Collins finds herself standing at the edge of a cliff, her heart filled with joy as she gazes into the distance. The mountains shrouded in mist stretch infinitely, a sight so breathtaking it was like being in a painting.
"As long as you like it." Henry Morgan stands behind Jillian, his right hand holding another woman’s hand without any restraint.
The woman flashes a satisfied smile across her beautiful face, for the day she has waited for all these years had finally come.
Jillian stretches her arms, closes her eyes, and basks in the morning breeze. Today is the second wedding anniversary of her marriage to Henry. She didn't expect he would take off work to go on a trip with her, she's utterly delighted. If she tells him the news, he'd probably be ecstatic too…
"Jillian, let's get a divorce." Henry's voice abruptly breaks the silence.
Jillian freezes, gradually opens her eyes, turns around, and replies with a strained smile, "What did you just say, honey? I didn't quite hear you."
Henry presents a divorce agreement, speaking blankly, "Jillian, let's get a divorce. You can have the car and the house. As for the company, you don't know how to run it, I'll continue to manage it."
"Why?" Jillian stares at the man in front of her, too shocked to utter another word. That familiar handsome face suddenly seemed so strange to her.
"Because Henry doesn't love you, he loves me!" Emily Collins steps forward, wraps her arms around Henry's arm. Her sensual body clings to him while her red lips curve upwards smugly, "Jillian, if you know what's good for you, you should sign this divorce agreement, so we don't have to make a scene."
"Emily... honey... you..." Jillian shakes her head in disbelief, "No, that's not it, you guys must be joking with me. Honey, today's our wedding anniversary, stop playing around, okay?"
Henry furrows his eyebrows impatiently, "Jillian, I don’t have time to joke around with you. Sign the agreement quickly, or don't blame me for becoming cold-hearted!"
"No, you can't do this to me! Honey, I love you! I would do anything for you, how could you treat me like this?" Jillian bursts into tears. She tries to grasp Henry’s arm but he pushes her away ruthlessly.
Emily blows on her brightly painted nails nonchalantly, "Jillian, might you show a little self-respect? Henry never loved you. Crying, making a fuss, threatening suicide, none of it will do you any good now. Better to quickly sign the divorce agreement."
Jillian stares at her stepsister in disbelief. Was this the same girl who once cuddled up to her saying, "You're the best sister ever"? She had always treated her like a real sister, always yielding, protecting her. Yet, she and Henry are in love?
Jillian shakes her head in despair, when suddenly she remembers something. With desperation in her voice, she cries out, "Honey, I am pregnant! We're having a baby! We can't divorce, can we start over instead?"
Henry paused as Emily hugged his arm and shook it gently, "Henry, our baby Lucas is already more than a year old, are you still going to let people call him an illegitimate child?” She put on a pitiful look, yet her eyes were brimming with resentment as they turned towards Jillian. If it wasn't for Jillian, her child wouldn't have been labeled as an illegitimate child from birth!
"Don't worry, Lucas is my son. I won't let him suffer any more," Henry held Emily in his arms, comforting her softly. As he looked again at Jillian, his gaze was as cold as iron, "Jillian, I'm giving you one last chance, sign this agreement!"
If she hadn't understood by now, Jillian was truly foolish. Lucas, the child who sweetly called her "Aunt", who Emily claimed to have adopted from an orphanage, was actually hers and her husband's child!
The couple's sweet embrace in front of her looked increasingly strange and repulsive. How much more were they hiding from her?
A malicious expression spread across Emily's face as she leaned in to Jillian's ear and whispered, "My dear sister, let me tell you a secret. Your father and brother didn't die in an accident."
Jillian's heart skipped a beat as she raised her head suddenly, "Did you have a hand in it?"
"Did I do well? Here's another secret," Emily pressed her shoulder, pushing her back, and leaned in to whisper in her ear, her sinister words slipping out, "Henry bought an accident insurance policy for you, but the beneficiary is my name. So today, is your death day!"
With that, she gave Jillian a strong push. Her frail body stumbled backwards, smashing into the railing behind her. Before she could stabilize, Emily charged at her again, sending her flipping over the railing. In her hurry, she gripped the railing tightly, her body dangling dangerously over the precipitous drop, swaying in the mountain wind, ready to fall at any moment.
Jillian clung on to the railing, her eyes fixed on Henry, "Why?" Why do I love you so much, but you treat me like this?
Henry wore a faint smile and slowly approached Jillian. Looking down on her, he sneered, "Don't you get it yet? I've never loved you."
"Henry, I hate you! I curse you adulterous pair to die a terrible death!"
Jillian's eyes were filled with blood and hatred, her face twisted with loathing. Henry didn't care and chuckled, trying to pry her fingers off the railing. But she held on too tightly. He furrowed his brows, picked up a stone, and smashed it against her fingers.
Soon, her hands were a bloody mess. Unfeeling to the pain, she broke into crazed laughter. It was a haunting sound, filled with hatred and curses, utterly chilling.
"Why are you laughing? What's so funny! Die, you wretch!" Incensed, Emily kicked hard at Jillian's head. As her vision blackened, she lost her grip and plummeted into the abyss.
Sharp branches and thorns from the rocky cliffs tore at her body, staining her with blood. She felt as though an invisible hand were choking her, yet her mind was remarkably clear. Images flashed through her mind like a spinning reel of film.
Against her father's wishes, she fell in love with the poor lad, Henry. To marry him, she made her father so angry that he spat blood.
On their first wedding anniversary, she transferred the ten percent share given by her father entirely to Henry. After hearing the news, her father went to confront her but had a car accident en route and died on the spot.
It turns out, Henry approached her to seize their family wealth!
It turns out, the good-natured stepsister who had been acting innocent in front of her was responsible for the death of her father and brother!
She was full of regret, regret for being blind in love and fell for a wolf in sheep's clothing! Regret for mistaking the enemies for her family, honoring and loving them, but they ended up killing her real blood!
If there is a next life, even if she falls into the eighteenth layer of hell, she will make those beasts with human faces pay in blood!
Dad, Brother, I'm sorry, I was wrong!
Baby, mommy can't protect you, it's mommy's fault. In your next life, find a better family and never become mommy's child again...
Her continually falling body finally crash-landed at the valley bottom, lying in a puddle of blood, her eyes gazing disorientedly at the sky, body convulsing, and foaming blood at the mouth.
In the moment before her life's end, she saw a man with handcuffs, his face wearing a soft smile, he said, "Jillian, don't be scared, I killed the man, don't feel guilty, don't bear the psychological burden, live happily, my Jillian…”
Samuel, Samuel…
The man she owes most and hurts the deepest in this life...
Samuel, if there is a next life, can I be the one to protect you?
