At the Burton family residence in Choytho.

Alexia John sat by the bed in her wedding gown, her hands on her knees, nervously tapping her index finger.

The room was eerily quiet.

Despite the desolate and joyless atmosphere, today was her wedding day.

If it weren't for being forced to marry a sick man in her step-sister's place, she might have forgotten she had a heartless father.

Suddenly, the sound of the door opening interrupted her thoughts.

She quickly straightened up, lowered her head, and clenched her fists.

The intruder's footsteps were light, and his breath was slightly labored.

Sensing something was wrong, Alexia was about to turn her head when a dagger pressed against her neck.

"Where's Damian Burton?" The man's agile movements and murderous tone were terrifying.

As soon as she heard that, there was a flash of light across Alexia's eyes.

However, it was replaced by panic quickly as she nervously swallowed her saliva.

With tearful pleading, she stammered, "I... I don't know. Please, let me go..."

She looked extremely frightened and kept begging for mercy. Her tears fell on the back of the hands of the man in black.

The man in black was irritated by this ugly woman with scars all over her face. He moved his sharp knife closer to her jugular vein and said, "I will kill you if you make another sound!"

Alexia quickly quieted down, but she was still sobbing like a pitiful child.

Suddenly, footsteps could be heard from the door. The man in black tightened his grip on her and lowered his voice to threaten her. "You'd better not move or else the blade will cut you."

Alexia hurriedly agreed, but her hands moved quickly under the sleeves. The man in black did not notice it at all.

When the door opened, the man who walked in looked indifferent. He carried a calm and cold aura about him, but he did look sickly and pale.

Could he be Alexia's husband?

The man went straight to the sofa on the side and sat down as he turned around to look at them playfully.

"Damian Burton, if you want your wife to live, you can exchange your life for hers! Otherwise..."

The man in black, noticing Damian's playful gaze, became flustered. His hand shook slightly, causing the sharp blade to pierce Alexia's skin, and blood began to seep from the wound.

Alexia frowned. How could he use her as a bargaining chip so hastily?

Damian sat on the sofa, observing Alexia with his deep eyes.

If his grandfather hadn't insisted he marry a daughter of the John family, he wouldn't have even glanced at a woman like her.

He snorted lightly. "Do whatever you want. Kill her or not, you decide."

Alexia looked at the indifference on his face, and anger surged in her chest as she clenched her hands tightly.

The man in black was irritated by Damian's attitude. He sneered and said, "Mr. Burton is truly cold-hearted. Don't blame me for what I'm about to do!"

When Alexia felt that he was about to attack, the fear in her eyes suddenly disappeared. She turned her right hand over and used a silver needle to stab the man's thigh.

His hand holding the knife went numb. He took two steps back, falling to the floor as he fainted.

Damian saw what Alexia did.

Her composure and abilities took him by surprise. This plain-looking woman actually had a hidden talent.

Suddenly intrigued by the woman before him, Damian remarked with amusement, "You actually saved yourself."

His tone hinted at disappointment. Alexia calmly glanced at him and asked, "He'll regain consciousness soon. What do you plan to do with him?"

"Kill him."

Alexia did not question his intentions further.

Damian clapped his hands, and soon there were footsteps outside the door. Someone entered and dragged the man in black away.

Alexia touched her neck, the pain causing discomfort. She never imagined she would bleed on her wedding night.

Suddenly, Damian stumbled toward the wall, clutching his head tightly with his hands. His brows furrowed in a deep frown, and he grimaced in pain.

Alexia was taken aback by the sudden turn of events. Just as she was about to reach out to help him, Damian picked up a glass with his trembling hand and hurled it at her.

"Get lost!"

The glass shattered instantly. Alexia knew something was wrong, but as she tried to approach him again, the butler rushed in and stopped her.

"Ms. Alexia, don't go near! Mr. Damian might hurt you!"

Before he could finish his sentence, another object was smashed into pieces. Damian roared through gritted teeth, "Get out of here!"

Damian was like an angry beast, completely losing self control. Whoever approached him now would be kicked away mercilessly. He clutched his chest and seemed to be in great pain. His eyes also clouded over.

He threw his suit on the floor and yanked at the collar of his shirt. It was as if someone had tried to strangle him. He breathed heavily and staggered around preventing anyone from approaching him.

"I'm going to kill you!" Damian's eyes were bloodshot as he yelled.

Alexia stood at the door and quietly observed his movements and facial expressions. He seemed to be fighting with another person.

"Go and get the doctor!"

The butler covered his wounded eye and hurried out. Alexia stopped him. "How long has he been like this?"

Out of respect, the butler promptly responded, "Mr. Damian has been suffering from this disease for many years, and the seizures can occur at any time. Unfortunately, no doctor has been able to cure it, and we have been unable to determine the cause through conventional physical examinations."

As Alexia suspected, this wasn't a typical physical ailment. Finding the cause by examining bodily symptoms alone seemed impossible.

Alexia entered the room.

"Ms. Alexia! Please don't disturb him!"

Upon seeing her approach Damian, the butler's tone turned cold, as if ready to hold her responsible for any consequences.

The bodyguards surrounding Damian eyed her warily.

"If you want him to die here, then stop me," Alexia said with a determined gaze. "Let me through. I can help him."

Seeing Damian in severe pain, the butler hurriedly weighed his options. Finally, he signaled the bodyguards, who then stepped aside to let Alexia pass.

As she moved closer to Damian, she heard his icy voice, "Do you have a death wish?"
