"E be like say she wan turn oyibo" A lady answered.

"Abeg make she come turn oyibo outside plenty of us get were to go" A lady sounded coming out of her room to stand outside.

"Na thunder Wey the for junction go see all of una. E no stay wey I enter dat place una don start to the talk nonsense" The lady in the bathroom hissed while walking out as Vivian rushed in to take her bath. She knee she was already late for school.

"Oh so you never die" The man who had spoken earlier said.

"Na you go first die" The lady hissed and walked away.

That was life in the ghetto for you. If you had any important meeting which you mist attend, then you must endeavor to wake up as early as 5:00am to first struggle for water before coming to wait on cue to have a shower. Vivian found herself in this condition after the death of her father.

"Mama I don the go school ooo" Vivian sounded looking dressed for school as she headed for the door.

"Vivian hw many times do I have to tell you that your Pidgin language stops outside that door ehn?" Mrs Nora sounded.

"But mom that is the language of the people here, you have to get used to it" Vivian said turning to fave her mom.

"If it was your father standing here would you have opened your mouth to tell him to get used to it?" Mrs Nora questioned as Vivian's mood changed quickly. "I wonder why you don't always listen to me" she added.

"Buy my father is not here" Vivian said. "If he was alive, we won't be living in this place, you won't have to be selling in the market and I would be attending a very expensive school" she said trying to hold back the tears that threatened to fall. "He died of cancer all thanks to those greedy brothers of his" she sobbed.

"Vivian I am sorry I have to remind you about him" Mrs Nora apologized.

"Its nothing I am fine" Vivian nodded cleaning her face.

"I will be back on the to help you in the market" Vivian assured and walked away.

The walk from her house to school was not far but Vivian stilled arrived late.

"Run down from there" A senior student shouted but Vivian did not make any effort to increase her pace. I said run down from there" the senior repeated getting a cane from a fellow senior. Vivian stopped in her tracks and looked round thinking of ways to get passed the punishment that awaited her arrival, she saw a teacher walking towards the school with a pile of books, she smiled as she walked up to her.

"Good morning ma" Vivian greeted

"Oh Vivian how are you?" The teacher asked.

"I am fine" Vivian answered. "I guess that pile of books should be heavy, lete help you" she offered and got the books from the teacher.

"Thank you so much" the teacher appreciated as they walked to the school.

"You are late Vivian" the senior said fuming in rage.

"Oh please just let her drop those books in the library for me thanks." The teacher said.

"You won't be so lucky next time Vivian" the senior said.

"There won't be a next time" Vivian muttered and walked away.
