Sociology of Whom?

Day 123 since I started college again. I was good, not slowing down on the months but kept on adding them up. Days to me were important, numbers———I flourished in. No, I wasn't a math nerd but I was close enough to it. Actually, I loved learning period but math was something I usually had to get my boy Deyonessious, long for Deo, which I normally called him.

See, Deo had my back, he was always there regardless. Even when a girl's monthly was on, he was there to hold my heat pad to my back while I complained out my front…my damn mouth of course. I, to him, to my brothers and parents was the worse complainer that God created with his own two hands but I did something with it. I just didn't sit on my ass and talk about it, I did something about it.

One day my girl Tip, she was cool with me from grade school, she decided that we were going to rob this store, steal some pumps but I told her I wasn't for that shit. I wasn't going to jail where it would remain on my record for a life time. She did it anyways and instead of us going, because I left her alone to do it, she went. Tip stayed in trouble from then on out because of that one dumb ass decision.

Anyways…..I got smart, decided that getting close to people, especially girls wasn't going to be something I did any longer. I stayed up with my boys, mainly my brother's friends and that's how I met Deo. He was closer to my age than my brothers who were 29 and 30 now. Yep, stair steppers….and momma was proud of it too. My daddy, he never stayed home. He was always up in some dude's house from some part of South Carolina, Texas, whoever with all the lies he told. I loved my pop's though because when he got drunk, all he did was sit there telling all these wild ass stories. I remember he had me and my brother's cracked up off some song about monkeys, a vine and some little ass row boat. I never forgot that song, I sing it to my own bumble bee.

Oh yeah, did I mention I had a daughter? My bumble bee. Her name is Sierra Lynn, yep, straight from the south with a little mountain influence. I started to name her Patty but then my mother told me she'd end all I had left to existence.

Wasn't quite sure what drove her to say that but she was a great Grandma, keeping Sierra during the day for me while I worked and went to school. I hated leaving her during the week like that but she would call my mom her mom…she had since she was a little—ol—thing.

My major in school was business but I had changed my major a few times, financial reasons and the fact that with Dancing, you had to keep a certain grade point average. While you were in school for one thing, they wanted you to have a back—up plan and that is sort of what I went for. I couldn't wait until the weekend though so I could go and see my angel Sierra. She'd be happy to see me, especially with what I had gotten for her from her favorite toy store next to my college.

"Annissa?!"

The sounds of heels clicking the sidewalk got louder and louder. I turned seeing it was my friend Rebecca from our strength building group. "Hey Beck" I smiled pushing my hair behind my ear, it was working my nerves, I swear.

"Are you going to the jazz celebration later?" she asked, I blushed and sighed thinking of the last time I went.

"I was a bit…..drunk the last time I went there———no way will Wayne let me back in." I shrugged it off and focused on a young couple sitting on a bench across campus.

They looked too had been in their late thirties but they were close, real close. I admired that type of love, the kind that was unbreakable, non—shattering. The man looked as if he'd go through hell and high water to prove his love for her and the woman looked like she'd do anything to prove she was always enough for him.

"Earth to Annissa!" Beck waved her pale hand in my face. Her fingers were red at the tips, I guess she was cold but me, I loved cold weather, it was like my muse.

"W—What? Do you really have to do that? We are going to be late for class…well I am." I walked faster pushing her aside.

"Well…..please come with me!" She rushed up beside me again which nearly landed her on her ass. I wasn't in the mood to go over why when I just stated I wasn't going period.

"No" I glance at her and back the way I was focused on. The large building with my dumb ass, boring ass professor Gay Wunsler for law and Ethics class.

"We all know you got Gay for L and E but can you please just not focus on that so you can have a clear mind, decide right on this thing here….." She pleaded.

"Fine Rebecca! I need to get my class work done first and we should do a little practice before we go."

Her eyes lit up like two large half dollars before she busted into a praise dance.

"I'll see you later!" she hugged me and ran off with her weird…chipper self.

Once I battled through the students in the narrow stairwell to get to class I may had been probably five minutes late into the lecture. The stupid door had to do the creek noise which aggravated me even more because the Tupac song "All Eyes on Me" would be my anthem right now.

That song was ancient but people still rocked his shit, at least I knew I did. The students finally turned back, most of the guys did anyways since they were the ones that mainly looked up. I quickly found a seat on the fourth row from the top as the professor…..

Wait.

The voice of old Mr. Gay Wunsler wasn't his own. My eyes focused but I could barely see. Searching for my glasses in my purse I finally found the block shaped things and quickly put them on.

I gasped seeing the honey bronze god walking back and forward in front of the large white board with his own set of glasses on. A cluster of perfectly drawn tattoos were peaking from underneath the nice cuffed white sleeve he had rolled up on his forearm.

"Name please?" he asked, he was looking at me.

Was I so lost in his looks this was maybe the third…no fourth time he asked my name?

"Answer him!" A student who always sat next to me, couldn't remember her name for the life of me nudged me hard, too hard I might add, I almost had that reflex….you know, that one.

"An—Annissa Scott"

The way it came out….It was a bit rugged but who ever said you have to rehearse your name you managed to sabotage.

"Well Miss. Scott, this is my class now. I don't plan on leaving it but I don't appreciate you coming in late. I start on time so if you plan on being late, don't come." He stared at me as if he meant that.

Well damn…he simply turned back around to the board and continued explaining whatever it was.

The class flew by like a breeze, well a painful one. I hated the confrontation and even saying my name out in front of about fifty students.

I had to meet with my brother after class so as soon as he dismissed I gathered my things and started out until I was called.

"Uhm…Miss. Scott———a moment please." His hand was raised when I turned around with his fingers still crooking for me to come….like a mutt.

Walking passed the snickering students I heard a lot….like

Is she in trouble, for what? We are in college, not grade school.

He's just picking on the stupid black girl in the class, not to mention fat.

Who ever said they wanted that dumb bitch in here anyways…

After that, I wanted to turn around and give the same treatment I gave anyone else that disrespected me as a child or when I was coming up on the wrong side of the tracks as they call it….I called it training ground.

Stopping in front of the large desk I looked across at him…..it was weird but in a way, I wanted to get this close. This was odd, especially for him being my professor and me a student.

"Take this and study it. I gave it to everyone when the class started." He handed me a brand new book. The book had the word "LAW" written over the top in huge black letters. I wanted to throw the book at his ass and run for the hills, for real.

"Alright" I replied. He was extremely handsome….not something I would date but cute.

"Will there be anything else?" I asked him.

He smiled and pulled out his chair. "I have no more classes after this, I wanted to sit with you, go over what part of the lecture you missed." He explained.

"Oh———well, I'll get it from one of the students." I nodded turning on my heel before I was um….stopped.

I gasped as he stood right in front of me, literally that quick.

"Damn!" I spat and cupped my mouth slightly. I didn't mean to curse, not in front of a teacher but that shit was freaky.

"I———hope I didn't startle you." He smirked.

"Ya' kinda did sir, can you….move." Gesturing what I meant by the sway of my hand I went around him without hesitation.

"Don't be late to class again Miss. Scott….there will be consequences next time." He stated. His voice grew faint as I walked further away, a good thing.

"Jazz Festival"

"You never said it was a festival, Beck!" I tried yelling over the music. The sax playing, the trumpet playing along…..the works, it was all here and I can say something I could get used to.

"You never asked, now c'mon…I want you to meet someone!" She giggled grabbing my hand and pulling me through the sweaty students dancing like sex was going out of style.

We were close to the stage, I wondered why but she knew where we were headed. I followed her with her grip now tighter on my hand. "Right here girl!" She giggled when our bodies came to a crash with a group of kids sitting around a couple of people playing cards.

I tried to focus on who the players were but of course I was short and the heels I had on was killing a girl's pinky toe.

"Ahh!!" The roar of one of the players and the distinctive slap of cards against a table told me that someone was good and someone just lost.

"Pay up buddy!" The voice, sound so familiar….

"He's so hot girl, I'm telling you…I'm about to hook you up!" Beck said, she was always trying to hook me up.

I guess I was the only one out of the group of us dancers that would need hooking up. It was always a Nissa intervention plan where they would all prey on Beck because she was the most gullible of the twelve of us. She'd always ask if we could come to some club or whatever so it was said that I tried to ask a guy out…..

Fuck that. It's only took me one time to get knocked up and betrayed, left at the damn alter I might add by my lying, cheating ass fiancé. Like who the hell leads does that? No one leaves no one at the damn alter anymore, you just don't waste time and money by saying it's over in the beginning….but no

"Nissa!"

I growled to myself, Beck knew I hated when she called me out like that. Our friends, our main ones of course were just three out of the twelve of us dancers. Me and Beck along with Joy, Nic and Randa but me and Beck mainly hung out. Joy and Nic was close but Randa was close to everyone at times….she was the one we loved from a distance cause girl could be shady at times.

"Wanna meet him?" Beck asked, I rolled my eyes and nodded.

Last time she tried hooking me up with a guy, he had a hearing aid but was hot. We went out once to dinner and dude asked me the same question like five times. I felt sorry for him and enjoyed the meal but…..that was it, there wasn't a second time. I didn't care for their attempts to hook me up but it didn't stop them from doing it.

"You are really gonna like him!" She giggled pushing passed the crowd now moving away from the small table.

The guy was tall but decent. Most of the students were starting to leave given it was passed two o'clock in the morning…damn, I lost track of the time too.

Looking up from my cell my eyes landed on a perfect set of misty grey ones…almost clear if you looked at them in the light.

"Miss. Scott, it's nice to see you this evening. To what do I owe such pleasure?" he smiled down at me, the professor.

I glared at him…was he stalking me?

"Nothing———I'm with my friend." I pushed passed him. He placed his hands in his pockets standing there as if I was some lesson to be learned.

Following Rebecca to the corner, I wish to God my ass had stayed in the studio to practice a little more.

He stood there watching me. I felt uncomfortable but for some reason the extra attention brought a thrill inside me that literally.

"Hello" A deep chocolate male with long dreads stood in front of me. His eyes fell down my body stopping right on my hips….okay.

"Hi" I smiled, waved a little.

"I'm Alphonzo…what yo' name baby?" he licked his full lips dropping those eyes once more to my lower region.

Red light.

"Nothing" I groaned answering him.

"What————no, I'm sorry you can't hear in here."

"No—I meant what I said." I interjected. Beck's mouth dropped open. Her blue eyes showed aggravation and the look of I'm going to get yo' ass when we alone kind of expression.

"Okay then, It's all good. Just thought, you know….you maybe wanted to get away from all the noise or somethin'" he moved closer placing his hand on my waist.

"No thanks." I pushed it away and started to turn before I felt my body jerk backwards and land on something hard…below the belt, a little harder.

"I suggest you take your hands off the lady." That same voice….my weird professor that likes to stalk stepped up, pulling me free from the grip of my captor.

"We cool" The guy smiled looking me up and down. "Talk to you later lil—red." He winked and nodded to his boys as they all left the room.

It had to been about five of them behind him and two in front.

I was turned so fast that my mind couldn't catch up to exactly what was going on. Stopping right in front of his iced grey eyes somehow left me with a weird but assuring comfort, he lifted his hands, caressing my arms. I bit my lip and sucked in the cool air of the room. He didn't speak, not one thing was shared at that moment but a look.

The look…

Somehow I knew that the void of speech was louder than anything I had ever profoundly known in my life.

Whoever this man was, he wasn't just my professor.
