It was pouring rain outside the window. The whole room was engulfed in darkness, and Adriana Martin sat motionless in front of the window, gripping a set of papers tightly in her hand.
There was a sound from downstairs, and then car lights shone through the window.
Adriana's eyes flickered slightly, but she remained seated.
The door behind her was kicked open violently, and the room was suddenly illuminated. The strong light made Adriana instinctively raise her hand to shield her face.
A dozen seconds later, Adriana lowered her hand without emotion, staring at the man standing at the doorway.
A tall figure stood upright, a cold face and an intimidating gaze that could chill the air.
James Scott frowned at the woman sitting by the window. Her face was pale and she looked emaciated.
Striding over to Adriana, his black eyes replaced by a blood-red glare, he looked at the weak woman in front of him and roared, "Adriana ! I never knew you could be so vicious!"
He violently threw a handful of papers at Adriana's face.
Adriana picked them up without expression. It was a divorce agreement. Ha, it seemed they were indeed on the same wavelength, even thinking about divorce at the same time.
There was another paper under her foot. Adriana picked it up, but upon seeing what it contained, she turned completely pale.
"Abortion consent form."
Adriana took a moment to catch her breath, slowly reading through the entire agreement, and then, choking slightly, raised her head and looked at him, "Explain!"
Looking at the pale and powerless her, James's eyes changed, then quickly reverted to torrential red. He spoke coldly, "What? Bella's child is gone. The doctor said she can't get pregnant again. Since that's the case, you don't have the qualifications to be a mother!"
A death-like silence ensued. Nothing could be heard except for the merciless howling wind and rain outside the window.
Adriana suddenly burst into loud laughter – a laughter filled with despair, pain, and helplessness. She clutched her stomach tightly. So, this man didn't know that she no longer had a child. His wish had already been fulfilled.
Even though she was fully aware of his ruthlessness, why did her heart ache so much when she heard him say the words himself? So much that the pain was almost unbearable.
Adriana stood up, leaning against the window frame, like a shattered butterfly on the verge of collapse. She watched James expressionlessly.
James also coldly watched her. After a moment of silence, he said, "I'll give you a night to think about it..."
"No need to think!"
Adriana interrupted him with a calm expression.
James turned around, "Adriana, it's our debt to her. We can give up the child.”
"Huh, we owe her? James, let me tell you, I, Adriana, don't owe anything to anyone, past, present, or future. You can choose not to have a child, that's your business. This child, I've decided to have!"
James frowned tightly and yelled impatiently, "I said no! You are not qualified to be the mother of my child!"
Adriana smiled brightly, her smile was as enchanting as the rose outside the window that was being battered by the storm. She tore the two documents in her hands into shreds, let them flutter in the air.
She grabbed the divorce agreement from the chair, and threw it at James, "Take your house and car and get out of my sight."
James's face showed a moment of surprise. When he clearly saw the words on the paper, his hands on his sides clenched violently.
They were already signed by Adriana.
Watching Adriana walking away, he grabbed her arm and pushed her against the wall, tightly gripping her neck, "Where do you think you're going?"
She forcefully pried his hand open, "Don't touch me! Dirty!"
Her body ached with every step she took due to the surgery. But no matter how painful it was, it did not compare to a fraction of the pain James had caused her.
James's eyebrows furrowed as he looked at the woman who once loved him the most. Did she just call him "dirty"?
He forcefully pulled Adriana back and threw her on the large bed in the room.
Then, James's body pressed down.
