It was midday, and the sun was blazing like fire.

In the emergency department's lounge of the Sudmere's Lakeland Hospital—

After Leia Cooke had a quick lunch in the hospital canteen, she sat down and was about to take a break. Suddenly, her cell phone rang.

She picked up her phone to look at the caller ID, then her delicate brows furrowed. With slight hesitation, she decided to answer the call.

She held the phone next to her ear but said nothing. It seemed that the caller didn't want to start the conversation first either.

The silence had lasted for more than ten seconds. Finally, Leia parted her lips and asked coldly, "What do you want from me?"

Hearing what the caller said, her face became a little pale, but her tone was even colder. "Noted, I'll go tomorrow." She quickly hung up the phone.

With just a few words, the call was ended. The whole call only took less than 30 seconds, including the long silence in the beginning.

Her hand that clutched the phone was still trembling slightly, whereas her delicate brows were furrowed. And Leia was staring at nowhere.

Obviously, she was still nervous.

"Knock, knock!" Suddenly, someone had knocked on the door.

Leia quickly came to her senses and put her phone on the table. She then closed her eyes and took a deep breath. Calming down, she answered in a cold voice, "Come in."

The door handle gently turned, and her assistant, Ellie Murphy, came in panting.

"What's the matter?" Seeing that Ellie's face was blushing yet anxious, Leia couldn't help frowning and scold in a cold voice, "Ellie, as a physician assistant, haven't you learned how to control your emotions?"

Upon hearing that, Ellie lowered her head sheepishly, but she was not annoyed by the coldness of Leia's tone.

After all, everyone in the department knew that although Dr. Cooke looked gorgeous, she was quite aloof. She had always been indifferent and distant to everyone.

But after working with her for a long time, Ellie gradually realized that she was only aloof on the outside. Inside, Leia was warm-hearted.

"Was there an emergency?" Leia looked up and saw that Ellie was in a daze, so she asked.

Ellie then came to her senses. She took two steps forward and said eagerly, "Dr. Cooke, there's a patient in the emergency room. His condition is a little tricky. However, Dr. Newman, who was supposed to be on duty, is having a bad stomach today and he's in the washroom again..."

This was not the first time Leia had encountered such a situation. Before Ellie could finish her words, Leia had quickly put on her white coat and hurried to the door.

Ellie then went out with her and briefly told her about the patient's condition as they walked.

When Leia entered the emergency room, she saw two men with sunglasses standing by the door. They were dressed in black suits, looking very unapproachable. At first aight, they would give one an impression of gangsters. However, they were probably just bodyguards hired by some rich folks.

Looking at them, Leia frowned and said coldly, "Please don't stand in the way of the emergency room." However, she didn't mean to be virtuous and high-principled. She only said it because they were blocking the way. That was all.

The two men exchanged a look, then they turned their gaze back to the front. Obviously, they had no intention of paying any attention to Leia.

At the same time, a weak child's voice came out of the emergency ward. "Marco, Eddie, do as what Dr. Cooke said and stand aside. Don't stand in the way of the room."

The voice was soft and gentle. Leia believed that the age of the child inside the room was definitely not more than five years old. However, there was an undoubted power to the voice, which made his words hard to be refused.

Marco Smith and Eddie Llyod then answered respectfully, "Yes." They looked inside nervously before stepping away from the door of the emergency room.

Leia was stunned for some reason. Although the men were only bodyguards hired by some rich family, it was clear that they had respect and were worried about the child inside. Unlike the usual bodyguards, they were not frigid and cold at all.

This little boy must be quite unusual to have such sincere respect from two adults.

However, Leia shook her head lightly as it had nothing to do with her. After all, she was just a temporary attending physician. She then walked in and introduced herself as usual. "I'm your attending physician, Dr..."

"Leia Cooke. Dr. Cooke." A little boy's soft voice had interrupted her self-introduction.

Leia looked up to the eyes of the boy on the bed and was a little surprised.

"I just heard the physician assistant, Ellie, mentioned that your surname is Cooke. And I saw the name on your badge since you stood in front of me."

His speed of speech was not hurried, and his voice was soft and sweet. In a few words, he had explained the details that an adult would not even notice.

He not only had a good memory. His observation skill, analysis skill, and his sensitivity were all beyond an average adult's, let alone being compared to children of his age—which would be a total unfit comparison.

Leia then picked up the medical record in her hand and looked at the little boy on the bed. His age on the record was indeed only five years old.

At the moment, his face was quite pale, and the color of his lips was very light. Despite the fact that one of his nostrils was stuffed with white gauze, there were still signs of blood coming out.

Furthermore, there was a wound on his forehead. The wound had been bandaged, but blood was still permeating through it. He looked very weak, but his eyes were still black and bright, sparkling.

Although the boy was injured on the face, it was not difficult to tell that he was very good-looking.

Based on his medical record, Leia thought the boy was possibly having some kind of blood disease, which could only be confirmed after the test results came out.
