In a hospital ward-

Director Ananth cordially handed some documents to Steve and said, "Hello Steve, these are the patient case files, along with all the information available about her up to now."

Steve expressed his concerns, "Director Ananth, I had explicitly emphasized the importance of accurate patient details to effectively gauge her personality and thoughts. Without precise information, altering her memories will be challenging."

Another person in the room interjected, "Mr. Steve, this is the best information we currently possess regarding her, and she is our primary focus at the moment. We trust you will handle your responsibilities with utmost professionalism."

In response, Steve conveyed his frustration, "Hello Mister, I'm not sure if you realize how difficult it is to alter someone's memories. Moreover, it is illegal, and I am risking my job by undertaking such a task. If the process fails, the consequences could be severe."

The other person offered reassurance, saying, "I understand the concerns, and you have our assurance that this case will remain entirely confidential among the three of us. There will be no leaks, and regarding compensation, you will be duly rewarded for your efforts. Please proceed with the process confidently."

3 Months ago:

As the sun set on one side of the world, on the other side, a phone rang in a cozy room. "Hello, Dad," a cheerful voice greeted, the warmth evident even through the miles that separated them. The call was put on hands-free mode, setting the stage for a conversation that would bridge the distance between generations.

"Dear daughter," replied a voice that held a blend of playfulness and concern at the same time a bit of anger, "Do you realize it's evening for me? I've been dialing your number tirelessly since last week, and yet, you've remained elusive throughout this week. Are you considering your father has been too old for you to take care of and ready to send me to an old age home that's why you have been ignoring me." There was a hint of reproach in his words, a longing for connection.

The daughter, SriValli, joined the conversation with a spirit as vibrant as her father's. "Whoever called you old, Dad, must have lost their senses," she declared boldly. "Challenge them to a duel of wits, and let's see if they dare utter those words again. You, my father, are the epitome of handsomeness and vitality. Remember those days when you could effortlessly carry me in your arms and walk for miles?" Her words held a touch of nostalgia, as if she was revisiting cherished memories.

Her father chuckled, though not entirely swayed from his initial concern. "Sweetie, let's not divert from the point. You've been neglecting our connection. Tell me, has the notion of an old man like me become too cumbersome for you to handle? Are you entertaining thoughts of shipping me off to an old-age home?"

SriValli responded with a mix of humor and affection. "Dad, your imagination runs wild! If I ever found you bothersome, my solution wouldn't be avoidance. Instead, I'd arrange a marriage for you! But worry not, for such thoughts haven't crossed my mind. So, please, let's not create unnecessary fuss."

Amidst their banter, a new voice chimed in. It was Ruby, a friend who had been observing their exchange. "Uncle," Ruby teased, "aren't you afraid that your daughter might be wrapped up in a whirlwind of romance, hiding a boyfriend from you?"

Vikram, the father, responded with a hint of amusement in his voice. "Ah, Ruby, my dear. That's a question I need not dwell upon. You see, my lineage has been graced by a descendant who possesses a discerning nature. She's walked the path of academia solo, without entangling herself in the complexities of friendships. If, by any chance, she did have a boyfriend, I'd only sympathize with the poor soul."

On hearing his response SriValli's voice filled the air, "Dad, it seems like you're truly content."

The reply came, tinged with a mixture of weariness and longing, "Do I come across as happy, my dear? Frustration has taken its hold on me. My own flesh and blood, my daughter, hasn't graced my presence for over three years. It's as though my affection goes unnoticed, my wishes ignored. Can you not grant me the simplest joy of extending a birthday greeting?"

In an instant, SriValli's expression changed, realization dawning upon her as she glanced at her call log. "Oops!" she exclaimed softly, her gaze dropping to her phone, revealing a litany of missed calls. "I'm truly sorry, Dad," she confessed, a hint of remorse coloring her tone. "This week has been a whirlwind of work, pulling me away from the network's reach. My battery, too, surrendered to its duties. The moment I was reconnected, I dialed your number. Please forgive me, it's entirely my fault. Moving forward, if I'm to venture into network-deprived areas, I'll make it a point to inform you beforehand."

Vikram's response was a blend of concern and sternness, "Are you being genuine? My sweet child, while I've advocated for your independence, my one stipulation was a daily conversation. Can you fathom the depths of my apprehension? Regardless of your reasons, my stance remains unchanged – I insist you bid farewell to your current job and return to our homeland."

The discussion gained a new voice as Ruby, a close friend, interjected cautiously, "Uncle, I urge you to deliberate before rushing into a decision. SriValli is a distinguished journalist here, endowed with resources surpassing those in India."

Vikram's response echoed with a touch of wisdom, "Ruby, do you believe her aspirations revolve solely around fame and wealth? My daughter is a free spirit, yearning to explore every facet of life's canvas. She pursues her endeavors not for mere acclaim, but due to an inherent passion."

Ruby's voice held admiration and camaraderie, "In harmony, you two are like a pair of peas, sharing an unspoken understanding. Uncle, rest assured, you'll soon reunite with your cherished daughter in..."

SriValli signaled to halt any further details

, "in a matter of days."

In a quiet corner of conversation, Vikram's curiosity found its voice. "Really?" he inquired, seeking confirmation from Ruby.

Her response held a gentle reassurance, "Yes, she's embarked on a lengthy leave to pay you a visit. Though I lack the specifics, it seems she plans to be away for more than a year. So, rest assured, there's no need for concern."

Vikram's concern remained steadfast, his voice tinged with a fatherly worry, "What's the meaning of this 'long leave'? I've insisted time and again that she should resign from her job and join me here. Given her qualifications, opportunities here would undoubtedly be more promising."

Ruby's proposition was born of sincere intentions, "Uncle, why not contemplate relocating here with us? This way, you wouldn't have to endure the longing for your daughter's presence."

However, Vikram's response was resolute, "No, my heart would ache if I were to leave this place. Home sickness would undoubtedly plague me."

Ruby, her tone lighthearted, dared to challenge his sentiments, "Uncle, are you genuinely serious? A seasoned gentleman with a daughter mature enough for marriage will be gripped by homesickness?"

Vikram's affection for his daughter emerged in his words, "In any case, I want my dear daughter by my side."

Exasperated yet amused, Ruby exclaimed, "I surrender! Conversations with this father-daughter duo are truly beyond me."

And in the midst of their exchange, a voice emerged from SriValli, bridging their perspectives, "Alright, Dad, I'm heading off to work. For the next few months, I might be less reachable. If my calls prove elusive, please don't let worry consume you. Remember to maintain your health. Also Don't be picky and eat properly on time, I've uncle Ravi to keep tab on you. So, take good care of yourself. Goodbye, Dad."

Vikram's voice filled with paternal care, "Sweetie, you too take care of your meals properly. You can be picky but make sure you eat healthy food. Farewell, my darling, and above all, remember to embrace the embrace of slumber on time. Be well, my dear. Take care." Following their conversation, the call was disconnected as SriValli began composing her formal resignation letter.

Ruby, the inquisitive friend, interjected with a touch of disbelief, "Cora, forgive my astonishment. I assumed you were only pursuing an extended leave, yet you're truly stepping away from your job?"

With a wistful sigh, SriValli's response held a blend of longing and vulnerability, "I find myself powerless in this matter. The longing for my father has grown so profound that I couldn't bear the distance any longer. His well-being and state of affairs in that distant land keep me awake at night."

Upon hearing these heartfelt words, Ruby found herself at a loss for a suitable reply. The depth of emotion and the profound bond between a father and daughter rendered her momentarily speechless.

Headquarters Pristine:

In the sunlit office, Cora's voice broke the morning calm, "Good morning, boss."

Laura's face lit up as she replied, "Morning! What a delightful surprise."

Curiosity danced in Cora's response, "Hmm?"

Laura chuckled, "Normally, I'm the one who has to seek you out. What's brought on this change? Is there something special?"

Cora's gaze held determination as she spoke, "Yes, boss. I have news. I'm resigning."

Laura's expression shifted to disbelief, "What?"

Cora repeated, her words resolute, "I want to resign."

Laura's concern deepened, "But why? You're one of my top employees. What's led to this sudden decision?"

Cora's response carried a mix of clarity and conviction, "You're mistaken, Laura. I might not hold the title of 'best,' but I'm the one who willingly shoulders the weight of risky assignments. Please, spare me that 'hard to let go' expression. I know my value, and I believe you also understand that my decision stands firm."

Laura's acceptance came with a request, "Alright, but allow me some time."

Cora questioned, "Why?"

Laura's concern was evident, "Are you truly contemplating an immediate resignation?"

Cora's voice cut through the air, "Any problem?"

Laura's response carried the weight of a busy day, "You ask if there's any problem? I'm juggling training interns, evaluating their potential, and wrapping up this year's annual review."

Cora's determination shone through as she pushed for clarity, "Boss, cut to the chase. This will be my final mission, no extensions, no loopholes. Remember that."

A knowing smile crossed Laura's face, "Ah, Cora, you truly understand me. Well then, here's your new assignment, codenamed 'Anello'."

Cora's interest piqued, "Loop?"

Laura confirmed, "Exactly. 'Loop,' an organization that occupies the murky territory between legality and criminality. They're enigmatic, providing arms to multiple nations and even serving as the supplier for private mobs. Their core business is ammunition research and sales. Interestingly, they also function as informants. The twist? They offer information to both governments and the underworld. Quite the web they weave."

Cora's insight filled in the blanks, "Yet, they aren't solely defined by this duality. While they steer clear of drug trade and trafficking, they act as a conduit, a neutral channel perhaps. Almost like a logistics department, escorting both legal and illicit goods. So, what's the hidden puzzle?"

Laura's response bore a sense of understanding, "Since you've mentioned your intention to resign, I won't stand in your way. However, I need a successful deal here. That's why I need you to uncover the leader of 'Anello,' or as they're known, the ring head named Iris."

Cora's inquiry emerged, "Well, how did he offend you?"

Laura countered, "Nope, I'm simply curious."

Cora's response carried a hint of critique, "Curiosity? That word truly doesn't suit you."

Laura defended her stance, "I don't have any other explanation to offer."

Cora's voice held firm resolve, "Boss, you understand that I'll carry out my assigned tasks diligently. However, if you withhold the truth, no additional responsibilities will be taken on for this mission. My focus is singular – Iris. I will confront him, but any consequences must be borne by you. It's worth noting, Iris doesn't chase money. His actions align with his own will, irrespective of their legality."

And thus, the lines were drawn, trust and purpose intertwining in a complex dance as Cora took on the enigmatic challenge that awaited her.
