Nisha is in the hospital for some days, today her brother died due to a rare type of brain tumour. He had been unconscious or one may say in a coma due to high blood pressure and this is the reason why doctors had given up taking an operation on him. If he was conscious he had undergone a major operation and if survived would be a miracle in medical history. The attending doctor was studying this case for nearly 10 years and he was the first patient who got admitted with the disease. He hoped every day when he spoke up to treat the disease but due to his coma, he is helpless. His sister took many odd jobs to make the ends meet, seeing his heart melted and offered a free operation but still the hospital fees were yet to be paid. He offered his help giving the fifty per cent of the fees of the hospital and the rest fifty percent was left for her to pay as she denied him his offer to take care of full medical expenses.
The doctor tried his best to bring the blood pressure low, he succeeded to some point but again due to some reason or the other the patient's blood pressure would rise when he was about to prepare for the operation.
As she was out of her brother's ward, she unconsciously bumped into the shoulder of the nurse who was carrying a baby. She said sorry and was about to leave, but was stopped by the little hands tucking her clothes on her arm.
She looked at the baby.
The baby was nearly about ten months old, smiled at her. She remembered her brother would always hold her arm of the needle something from her before he was diagnosed. She had goosebumps as she heard someone saying that the baby came out of the death bed miraculously a few minutes ago and was shifting to the nursery for further examination.
Nisha was dumbfounded hearing this but before she could gain her senses back the nurse had left to the nursery. One moment she felt as if her brother had come to life. She quickly rushed to the nursery.
The baby looked healthy without any problem. It had difficulty breathing once the breathing was regained the baby looked spirited and energetic.
Nisha stopped the nurse who came out of the nursery closing the door behind her and asked
"Where are the baby's parents?" As she didn't see anybody following the nurse
"Poor baby just lost its parents in a fire. We informed a person whose name was the first on the call list to come and take the baby, but he said he needs some time as he is lives out of the city."
The nurse told her everything in just one breath.
Nisha was feeling pulled towards the baby that she ignored the fact that her brother died a few moments ago. Reality hit her when she saw the doctor pushing her brother towards the mortuary. Her feet felt like jelly and she started crying in front of the glass door of the nursery and she started crying.
Dr Kush, the attending doctor of her brother was in his late fifties, he always appreciated her spirits towards life, being in a state of pressure she always smiled and was talkative in nature. He never felt angry or irritated by her babbling, instead, he felt proud of her as if she was his daughter.
Dr helped her to complete the hospital procedure and handed the corpse to her, he even helped her to complete the after rituals.
The next day she came back to the hospital to thank Dr Kush, passing by the nursery she hoped to find the baby in the same crib where she saw it last time and was shocked to see the baby still there in the same crib. It was crying and the nurse had a hard time stopping it by swinging the crib.
The nurse was new and had no experience in this and was trying hard by saying some consoling words and also by singing a lullaby, but the baby didn't stop. She even tried to feed the milk through a feeding bottle but the baby pushed it hard and the milk spilt on the floor.p
Seeing this Nisha entered the nursery, held the baby in her arms and told the nurse to take care of the spilt over milk and bring one more bottle of milk to feed the baby.
The nurse nodded her head and went out to bring another bottle of milk to the baby. Nisha swayed herself by taking the baby in her arms and lolling at the baby, she sensed the silence, just like her brother would become silent once she took him in her arms.
She was overwhelmed by the feeling of feeding the baby with the new bottle of milk. She asked the nurse who was standing beside her
"Why is the baby still here? Didn't anyone come to pick it up?"
she is eager to take care of the child by herself, for that she has to confirm and make sure that nobody came to pick up the child.
"He said he'll come on a weekend, today's Monday still five days to go"
Nisha became sad by hearing that the baby will not be able to stay with her but the thought that she had five days with the baby made her pale face smile a little. Later when the baby slept she placed it on the crib and went out.
She met Dr Kush, who smiled at her, while talking she asked about the baby and said
"If none came to get the child then am willing to keep it"
Dr smiled and said
"I'd like to share the interesting thing about the baby, do you want to hear?"
