Chloe Summers just dropped a post on her Moments.
[Anyone down for a flash marriage? Waiting.]
She even added a pic of her household registration booklet—and made sure to hide the post from her relatives.
Honestly, she didn’t really expect anything to come out of it. She just knew marrying anyone sounded way better than being sold off to some old dude.
Her dad’s company hit a rough patch, and her lovely stepmom and stepsister were already scheming to trade her off for some fat betrothal money.
No way she was gonna let that happen.
A while later, her Moments blew up.
“Wait, what? You just hit legal age and already thinking about getting hitched?”
“Front row for the drama. Chloe, you okay?”
“Let me guess, rich boy Liam Carter dumped you for your sis Sabrina, and you're doing this to win him back?”
Liam Carter went to the college next to Chloe’s film school.
He saw her in a stage play once, and after the curtain dropped, he went backstage to ask for her number. Ever since, he’d been using his family's clout trying to chase her down.
Word was, Liam’s family had serious pull in Nancheng. A lot of people were dying to get close to them.
But Chloe couldn’t care less. She always gave him the cold shoulder.
Then a couple months later, Liam suddenly switched targets and went after her half-sister Sabrina.
Didn’t take long—just a few half-hearted moves, and Sabrina blushed her way into saying yes.
Chloe didn’t bother replying to the comments. Just kept scrolling.
“This what selling yourself looks like?”
“What’s the dowry? If it’s over twenty grand, I’m out.”
“Some people stay single for a reason. Maybe take a long, hard look at yourself before trying this kind of thing. It’s not gonna get you a real relationship.”
Wading through the sea of junk, Chloe felt like she was digging through trash for anything remotely useful.
And finally, there it was—a short, straightforward reply.
Ningjc: “Me.”
After reading all that noise, this one actually caught her eye.
She tapped on his profile, double-checked—he was a guy.
Good. If it had turned out to be a girl, she’d know it was just someone joking around. Most of her WeChat contacts were people she actually knew, so Chloe Summers couldn’t help but be confused—who the heck was this guy?
"Who are you?"
She tilted her head, trying to figure out what the string of letters in the username even meant.
Out of curiosity, she tapped on his profile picture.
It was a shot of a guy's back. Taken at night, under a streetlight.
Broad shoulders, slim waist, tall figure. He wore a loose black tee, ripped jeans, and white canvas sneakers. His pale ankles peeked out, giving off this cool, distant vibe she couldn’t ignore.
Chloe tried to recall if she had ever met someone like this.
Totally blank. Nope, definitely no memory of him.
She couldn’t help but mutter, "Is this some random pic off the internet? And how did he even get into my contacts?"
Determined to dig deeper, she clicked into his Moments—only to find nothing at all.
Completely empty. So empty it almost felt like he had blocked her.
But then again, he had just commented on her post in Moments… So she probably wasn’t blocked. Yet.
She opened the chat and shot him a message.
Chloe: [Are you seriously thinking about getting married?]
Ningjc: [I am.]
Chloe: [With me?]
Chloe: [I’m not kidding. I mean it.]
Ningjc: [It’s because it’s you that I mean it.]
Chloe: [???]
Ningjc: [Will you marry me?]
He was giving off this vibe—like, a little too intense. Like she’d somehow ended up being watched without knowing.
She didn’t reply for a long time. But he got impatient first.
Ningjc: [Why aren't you responding? Second thoughts?]
Honestly, yeah. Chloe was feeling a tiny bit of regret.
But then she thought of Margaret Miller and Sabrina Summers, and all their scheming. No better option had popped up, and maybe... just maybe this was her only way out.
After hesitating for a while, she typed:
Chloe: [No.]
Chloe: [I’ll be waiting at Nancheng Civil Affairs Bureau. Don’t stand me up.]
——
Both are clean, and he’s been planning this all along.
The male lead has been lurking silently in her contacts for years, just waiting for this one moment.
A sweet and light love story full of laughs—enjoy!
