The forest at midnight was alive with whispers. Shadows twisted and swayed under the pale gaze of the moon, the silver light streaming through the trees like liquid frost. Luna stumbled along the cold, uneven ground, each step heavy, her legs weak from exhaustion and pain. Her chest burned, her side ached from the blows she had received, and every breath was a struggle.

The rogue werewolves had left her here, broken, alone, and human among predators. Her hands, smeared with dirt and blood, trembled as she pressed them against her knees, trying to steady herself. Fear clawed at her, but there was something deeper—an unease that prickled at her very soul. Something about the forest tonight felt alive, aware, as if it was watching her.

She sank against the trunk of a gnarled oak, feeling the rough bark bite into her skin, but she welcomed the contact. Her vision blurred with exhaustion and tears, the moonlight dancing in fractured beams across her face. A soft whimper escaped her lips, a sound swallowed by the dense silence of the night.

And then she heard it—a faint, deliberate sound. Footsteps. Light, fluid, but deliberate. Not human. Her pulse spiked, fear coiling in her stomach. She tried to scramble to her feet, but her legs betrayed her, trembling beneath her.

From the shadows, he emerged.

Kael.

Every instinct screamed danger, but she could not look away. His presence was overwhelming. Dark hair fell over sharp, hypnotic features, and his eyes, black and infinite, seemed to pierce through her very being. Every movement of his lithe, muscular frame radiated confidence, danger, and a predatory grace that both terrified and fascinated her.

“You shouldn’t be here,” he said, voice low and smooth, almost teasing, almost threatening.

“I… I don’t know where else to go,” she whispered, her voice cracking under the weight of pain and exhaustion.

Kael crouched beside her, careful not to startle her, his eyes scanning her face, noting every cut, bruise, and tremor. There was no cruelty in his gaze, only curiosity and something darker—something that made her pulse quicken.

“You’ve been hurt,” he said, his voice almost a growl. “By them?”

She nodded, unable to speak. Her lips trembled. The forest seemed to hold its breath.

Kael’s long fingers brushed a stray lock of hair from her cheek, and the heat of his hand made her shiver. “You shouldn’t have been left here,” he murmured. “Not alone.”

Before she could answer, he swept a dark cloak around her shoulders, the scent of his musky presence close enough to make her pulse race. “Come with me,” he said, lifting her effortlessly into his arms. Her body, frail as it was, felt like it weighed nothing against his supernatural strength.

The forest blurred around her as he moved. Trees became shadows, moonlight flickered over rippling muscles, and she realized how intoxicatingly powerful he was. His every motion radiated danger and control, yet there was a strange gentleness in the way he carried her.

He set her down in a small clearing bathed in silver light, her body trembling as she sank to the forest floor. Kael crouched, close enough that she could feel the warmth radiating from him, the sharp scent of his vampire essence enveloping her senses.

“You’re safe,” he said softly, lips just inches from her ear. “For now.”

Her body trembled, half from exhaustion, half from the thrill of being so close to a creature so impossibly dangerous and seductive. She wanted to recoil, to scream, to run—but something held her there. Something magnetic.

And then she felt it—the growl, low and guttural, coming from the shadows beyond the clearing.

Kael’s eyes snapped toward the sound, narrow and predatory. “He’s here,” he said, muscles tensing.

Luna turned her head and froze. Golden eyes glinted through the trees, blazing with raw power. Liam.

The werewolf alpha emerged, his broad shoulders and muscular form rippling under the moonlight. Every step he took radiated authority and dominance, and his gaze was fixed on her. Fury and longing wove together in his eyes, and she felt a shiver run down her spine.

“You’ve found her,” Liam growled, voice rough, deep, commanding. “And you think you can protect her?”

Kael straightened, his body a sleek, dangerous sculpture under the moonlight. “I don’t think, Liam. I know,” he replied, voice low, dangerous, teasing.

Liam’s jaw tightened. Every instinct screamed at him to take her, to remove her from Kael’s influence. She was his—fated, destined. And yet… the prophecy whispered by his father lingered in his mind. Luna, the half-werewolf, the one who could rise as the Luna Alpha.

Kael stepped closer to Luna, circling her as if daring Liam to make a move. Liam’s growl rose, fierce and guttural. The air between the three of them crackled with tension, desire, and the threat of violence.

Luna’s heartbeat thundered in her chest, and for the first time, she understood something terrifying and exhilarating: she was no longer just a victim. She was at the center of something far larger, far darker, and far more dangerous than she had ever imagined.

The shadows of the forest seemed to bend toward them, alive, whispering secrets that only Luna could almost hear. The moonlight illuminated her pale skin, casting her as the center of a stage where two powerful, lethal creatures circled, drawn to her in ways she could not comprehend.

And as the night deepened, Luna realized with a mix of fear and fascination that her life had changed forever. She was no longer just human. She was destined for something far greater—and far more dangerous—than she could yet understand.

Luna drifted in and out of consciousness, the world around her shifting between shadow and silver light. At times she felt weightless, as if she were floating beneath the moon itself. Other times, pain dragged her back, sharp and unforgiving. Through it all, one presence remained constant.

Warm. Steady. Dangerous.

Kael.

She became aware of him before she fully opened her eyes. The steady rhythm of his breathing. The faint scent of night and iron. The way his arm was braced beneath her, holding her as though letting go was not an option. When her lashes finally fluttered open, the forest above her looked unfamiliar. The trees were farther apart, the moon brighter, the air calmer.

“You’re awake,” Kael said quietly.

His voice sent a strange shiver through her. She turned her head slightly and saw him kneeling beside her, one knee pressed into the earth, his posture relaxed yet ready, like a predator that never truly rested. His dark eyes searched her face with unsettling intensity.

“Where… am I?” she asked, her voice weak.

“Somewhere safe,” he replied. “For now.”

She tried to push herself up, but a wave of dizziness forced her back down. Kael’s hand moved instantly, steadying her shoulder. His touch was firm, controlled, and far too intimate for someone she had just met.

“Do not move,” he said. “Your body has endured more than you realize.”

Her memories returned in fragments. The werewolves. Their cruel voices. The way they had shoved her to the ground when she refused to kneel. Her throat tightened.

“They said I didn’t belong,” she whispered.

Kael’s jaw tightened. For a brief moment, something dangerous flickered in his eyes. “They were wrong.”

She laughed weakly. “Everyone says that before they leave me.”

His gaze snapped back to hers. “I did not rescue you to abandon you.”

Those words settled deep in her chest, heavier than they should have been.

He helped her drink from a small flask, supporting her carefully as she swallowed. Strength slowly returned to her limbs, though exhaustion still clung to her bones. She noticed now that they were no longer in the open forest. A small stone structure stood nearby, half hidden by ivy and shadow, ancient and silent.

“You live here?” she asked.

“For now,” Kael replied again, a faint curve touching his lips. “You seem to ask questions I prefer not to answer.”

Despite everything, she felt a strange pull toward him. Fear, yes—but also curiosity. And something else. Something dangerous.

“You’re not human,” she said.

“No,” he agreed easily.

“You’re a vampire.”

He watched her closely”
