The soft scratching sound of a pencil moved steadily across paper as Clara Bennett leaned over her desk, completely absorbed in her work.

Sunlight streamed through the wide studio window, casting warm golden light across the room. Dust particles floated lazily in the air, glowing like tiny sparks. The small apartment she used as her workspace was simple but cozy—white walls, wooden shelves filled with design books, fabric samples neatly arranged in labeled boxes, and sketches pinned carefully on a corkboard.

Interior design had always been Clara’s dream.

Ever since she was a little girl rearranging furniture in her bedroom, she had loved the idea of transforming spaces into something beautiful. To Clara, a room was never just a room. It was a story waiting to be told through colors, textures, and light.

She paused and lifted the paper slightly to admire the design she had just completed.

A modern living room layout. Soft neutral tones, warm lighting, and elegant furniture placed in perfect harmony.A small smile spread across her face.“One day,” she murmured to herself.

One day she would have her own interior design studio. Not just a small freelance business, but a real company—one with her name proudly displayed on the door.

“Clara Bennett Designs.”The thought made her smile wider. Her phone suddenly buzzed on the table, interrupting her thoughts. She glanced at the screen,it was Ethan.

Her younger brother rarely called in the middle of the day unless something was wrong.Clara picked up the phone quickly.

“Hey, Ethan.” Are you still at the studio? he asked, his voice sounded tense,Clara frowned slightly.

“Yes… why?”

There was a pause on the other end.“Dad asked if we could come home early tonight,” Ethan said slowly.“That’s not strange,” Clara replied with a small laugh. “He always wants family dinners.”

“Yeah,” Ethan said quietly. “But this time feels different.”Clara sat up straighter in her chair “What do you mean?” “I went to the office earlier,” Ethan explained. “There were people there I’ve never seen before.”

“People?” Investors and some lawyers Clara’s eyebrows pulled together “Lawyers?” Yeah.

She leaned back in her chair, suddenly uneasy.

Their father’s company, Bennett Holdings, had always been stable. At least, that was the impression he had always given them.

“What were they doing there?” she asked.“I don’t know,” Ethan replied. “But Dad looked… stressed.”That worried Clara more than anything.

Richard Bennett was not a man who showed stress easily.“I’m probably overthinking it,” Ethan continued, though he didn’t sound convinced.“Maybe it’s just business meetings,” Clara said gently.

“Maybe.” Another silence followed Just come home early, okay? Ethan added.

Alright, Clara agreed.

After hanging up, she stared at her sketchbook for a long moment. But the excitement she had felt earlier was gone.A strange feeling had settled in her chest. Something wasn’t right.

By the time Clara arrived home later that evening, the sky had begun turning shades of soft orange and deep purple.

The Bennett house stood quietly at the end of a peaceful street, its familiar white walls glowing softly in the fading sunlight.

Clara stepped inside, removing her coat as she looked around. The house felt… different,Too quiet. “Dad?” she called No answer.

She walked into the living room and found Ethan standing by the window, staring outside.

“You’re home,” he said.Clara noticed the serious look on his face immediately.Where’s Dad? Ethan nodded toward the sofa.Richard Bennett sat there, leaning forward with his elbows resting on his knees.

His shoulders looked heavy,Clara’s stomach tightened She had never seen her father look like this before.

“Dad?” she said softly as she sat beside him. Richard Bennett lifted his head slowly, his eyes looked tired.

Much more tired than Clara had ever seen them.“You’re both here,” he said quietly.

Clara exchanged a glance with Ethan.“What’s going on?” Ethan asked.Their father exhaled slowly before speaking “It’s the company.”

Clara felt her heart skip slightly.“What about it?” Richard hesitated. Then he said the words that made the room feel suddenly colder.

“The company is under investigation.” Silence fell over the room “Investigation?” Ethan repeated.Richard nodded.

“Financial transfers. Some investors believe money was moved illegally.”Clara stared at him in disbelief.

“That’s impossible,” she said immediately. “You would never do something like that.”Her father didn’t respond. And that silence frightened her.

“If the investigation continues,” he said quietly, “I could lose everything.”

And worse,” he added. I could go to prison.“No,” Clara whispered,That won’t happen.Richard forced a weak smile.“I’m trying to find a solution.”

Clara sat very still on the sofa, her fingers tightly clasped together in her lap and she felt her chest tighten.

The words her father had just spoken echoed in her mind. The company is under investigation. It didn’t make sense.

Bennett Holdings was more than just a business to their father. It was his life’s work.

Clara slowly looked around the familiar living room. The warm lights, the old wooden bookshelf, the family photographs hanging on the wall. One photo in particular caught her attention.

It was an old picture taken many years ago. In it, a younger Richard Bennett stood proudly in front of a small office building, holding a sign that read “Bennett Holdings.”

Her mother stood beside him, smiling brightly.Clara felt a tight knot form in her chest. She remembered that day.

She had been only eight years old, but she still remembered how excited her father had been. “This company will take care of our family,” he had said proudly. And for many years, it had.

After their mother passed away, the company had become even more important to him.Clara could still remember the long nights.

Her father working late at the dining table, papers spread everywhere.

Sometimes Clara would wake up in the middle of the night and find him still there, reviewing documents under the dim kitchen light.

He never complained,Not once.He worked harder than anyone she knew. All so he could provide for them.Clara swallowed slowly.

How could that same company now be the reason he might go to prison? It didn’t make sense. She looked at her father again.

The strong, confident man she had always known now looked exhausted, almost defeated. For the first time in her life, Clara realized just how heavy the burden on his shoulders must be.

And it scared her.Because if Bennett Holdings collapsed…It wouldn’t just destroy their father’s career. It could destroy their entire family.

Before Clara could say anything else, the distant sound of a car pulling into the driveway broke the silence.Ethan walked toward the window and pulled the curtain slightly aside.

A sleek black car had stopped in front of the house.Clara frowned.“Are we expecting someone?” No,” Ethan said quietly, her father slowly stood up looking through the window

His expression suddenly looked even more tense. The doorbell rang the sharp sound echoed through the house. His hands trembled slightly.

Clara felt a strange chill run down her spine. Her father walked to the door.Ethan and Clara followed behind him.

When Richard opened it, a tall man stood on the porch. He wore a perfectly tailored black suit. His posture was confident, almost intimidating. His sharp gray eyes moved calmly across the room before settling briefly on Clara.

Clara’s breath caught slightly.Even though she had never met him before, she knew exactly who he was.

Everyone knew that face.Alexander Knight,Billionaire CEO of Knight Global. One of the most powerful men in the country.

But what was he doing here?Alexander stepped inside slowly. The room seemed to grow quieter around him.

Then he looked directly at Richard Bennett and spoke calmly.“Good evening, Mr. Bennett.”

His voice was smooth, controlled, and confident.“I believe we need to discuss a solution to your problem.”Clara’s heart began beating faster.Solution? For what?

For the first time that night, she saw something that looked like fear in her father’s eyes. And suddenly Clara understood something terrifying.

Alexander Knight had not come for a friendly visit. He had come for a deal. And somehow…Clara had the terrible feeling that she was about to become part of it.
