Battle scars. Everyone had battle scars. Some showed it as marks on their skins while hers could be seen through her eyes. And her eyes, her eyes that seemed to contain the utmost sorrow and yet displayed the absolute strength...were so beautiful. It was so beautiful that my heart, which had never been touched, started beating for the first time.

SELENE'S POV

When I was young, my grandmother had told me the secret of our family.

She said we are werewolf. When the moon shines, certain changes in us occur. Our eyes can see better and our sense of smell is more pronounced. Our bodies are also more agile whenever it's night. That's also why we live in a sparsely populated town.

My grandma said most werewolves live with their kind in pack, but we are the exception. Nevertheless, she comforted me by telling me that I would meet my fated person.

When I grew up, I lived alone and often felt lonely, until I met him, Leo Shon, one of the most riches people in the country.

I hidden my true identity as a werewolf and became his private cleaner, actually the only one who was allowed to enter his bedroom and clean it for him.

The first time I saw his eyes, it was like my heart and soul were immediately sucked in. And the first time he touched me, I felt an intense, beautiful spark all over my body.

It was like my whole being was made for him and only him.

Fortunately, he seemed to have felt the same attraction towards me. Thus, as his secret lover, we started to have a romantic relationship. I didn't even consider other things, such as the complicated discrepancy in our life standings. And for a while, my heart was in constant bliss and contentment.

Yet, that great feeling did not last.

Recently I noticed he started to avoid and ignore me. And that time when I saw him looking at me with cold, calculating eyes, I knew that something was wrong.

From merely ignoring me, I started to feel the alienation that Leo was directing towards me. And whenever it was night, I started to feel rejection in my heart.

It started with a slight ache in my heart... until it became more and more intense... and the emotional pain became physical pain.

It made me more uneasy than I had ever felt before. My emotions drove me to see him at once, embracing him.

"Good evening. Mr. Shon called me in to clean his house," I came to his house, politely asking guards. One of them gave me a condensing look before he gave me a stern nod.

Leo hated it when anyone disturbed him so he allowed us to quietly come and go out of his house. Thus, I put the password of his home and entered without ringing the doorbell.

After taking a few steps into the gate, suddenly, I felt another sharp pain in my heart. My eyes started to water. 'What is happening, Leo?' I begged in my mind before gripping my fists hard and opening the door of his living room.

Immediately, I saw something that...shattered my heart to pieces.

Leo was sitting on his sofa, shirtless. On his lap was Anisa Young, an heiress of another wealthy family, and his childhood friend.

She was kissing and touching him...and he was allowing her.

Leo had sharp senses and he immediately noticed me. Our gazes met. Instantly, I saw panic, shock, guilt, and pain in his eyes. However, he closed them, and when he reopened them again, his eyes were already emotionless. He slightly pushed Anisa who hadn't noticed me, yet. Then, he stood up and started putting on his shirt.

Anisa was startled before she looked around and saw me. Her eyes sent me a death glare before she screamed, "What are you doing here, maid?"

I opened my mouth to say something but no words came out. Anisa looked very upset, especially when she saw that Leo stopped paying her attention. Thus, she walked towards me before giving me a resounding slap on my face. "I am asking you a question!" She screamed at me.

Leo stopped his action for a second before he continued buttoning his shirt. He didn't say anything. Throughout his actions, his eyes never went to my direction.

"Leo—!" I called his name, wanting to question his actions. However, Anisa pushed me hard to the ground. Then, she pulled out her phone and dialed a number.

"Bring the security guards here! There is a maid who illegally entered Leo's house. Drag her out of this place!" She screamed before sending me another glare.

I recognized her words well. However, at that time, my eyes were focused on Leo's back who was walking upstairs, away from us.

"Why do you do this to me?" The pain and anger in my heart become stronger, feeling like my soul is being slowly shattered.

"Why?!"

I hate you… I will never forgive you… As I looked at him, the thought came to me, and it made my pain worse. Just a few minutes after, five security personnel came over and physically dragged me out of his house as if I was a criminal. They pushed me in their car, making me hit my head at the door pretty hard.

Before I knew it, the car stopped at the gate of the neighborhood. One of security opened the door near me and dragged me by the hair before walking towards the gate.

"Get the hell out of here or we'll call the cops on you!" One of security yelled at me.

I grit my teeth and with all the strength I could muster, I stood straight, and started to walk away with my shattered heart.

'Is this how a broken heart feels?' I thought to myself. I felt like drowning. Drowning in the patent melancholy that I could not even describe.

Under the moonlight, my feelings were amplified. My heart, body, and soul were suffering, and I have no idea how to fix them. All I knew was I had to move my legs and keep walking away.

Suddenly Leo's face appeared in my mind. Now, Leo and Anisa are laughing in bed. She sat naked across Leo's lap and twisted her body. He is holding her, touching her and kissing her.

Why can I see him in my mind?

I shook my head hard to get him out of my mind, and the pain in my heart are getting stronger so I can't even stand up, making me fall in the snow. I started shivering.

"No, I have to get up," I told myself before using all of my energy to stand up and walk again. I was successful, though it was a struggle, especially with my shuddering body.

Unfortunately, barely a few minutes later, another bout of violent pain bombarded my chest and I could not help but gasp. I looked up in the Moon that was shining so brightly before darkness enveloped my eyes and I felt my body falling.

The last thing I remembered was a warm palm holding my forehead. Unlike the sparks that I felt whenever Leo touched me, this hand gave me a tender and comforting feeling. Then, I heard a beautiful and soft voice saying, "I finally found you."
