"Mrs. Griffin, your placenta mutated into cervical cancer two years ago since it was not entirely removed from your uterus during your abortion..."

While sitting across from me in the hospital surrounded with the scent of disinfectant, the doctor in a white coat said hesitantly.

"What did you say?" My face became pale as I was taken aback.

"Mrs. Griffin, I recommend that you contact your family and come to the hospital as soon as possible for chemotherapy. The chances of survival may improve by a few months..." The doctor expressed his honest concern.

Isn't it nice to have a family? A sense of melancholy washed over me as I lowered my head.

I've been separated from my family for a long time.

"How long do I have?" I inquired quietly.

"At most three months..."

The doctor was still trying to persuade me to be admitted to the hospital as soon as possible, but my ears were ringing and I couldn't hear him. I couldn't stop thinking about three months.

Isn't it finally coming to a close?

......

In the Griffin villa at nightfall.

Chevron Griffin let out a hushed grunt. He got up and headed into the bathroom as usual after releasing it in me.

He'd always been this way. He'd finish by taking a shower as if he'd touched something filthy.

My entire body was aching as I laid in bed. I turned back and smiled viciously to myself as I peered through the frosted glass of the bathroom at the powerful figure.

After three years of marriage, this man had just used me as a tool to satisfy his need.

The bathroom door was soon opened. Chevron walked out, wrapping himself in a towel. The towel hung loosely on his body, revealing his amazing abdominal muscles. He was slim and tall. I was staring at him aimlessly.

He was quite attractive, but he was never mine.

He had already put on his clothing properly when I regained consciousness. He was clearly not going to stay another second.

I took a breath and paused. I summoned the confidence to speak despite his harsh stare.

"Chevron."

"What?" he shouted impatiently as he came to a halt, turned around with a chilly expression on his face.

I couldn't say what I wanted in the end since I could see his anxiousness to depart. I forced a smile, I said "It's starting to get chilly. Keep yourself warm and safe on the drive..."

The only response I got was the sound of the door closing.

I locked my gaze on the vacant room. Along with the sadness in my chest, the smell of him lingered in the air.

Since he married me three years ago, he has despised me.

He despised me so much that he couldn't stand our child's existence.

He despised me so much that when our child was only three months old, he demanded that I be forced to have an abortion.

When I was as pale as a sheet in the hospital bed, he stared at me. "Farah Harris, you're not qualified to give birth to my child," he stated in a spiteful tone in front of the doctor, without regard for my dignity.

Chevron never tried to disguise his dislike for me, but I never imagined he'd be so vicious as to murder his own child with his own hands.

I'd finally woken up from that point forward. This man would never show me even a smidgeon of tenderness.

However, the Chevron, for which I had previously fell, was heated.

He was the violin teacher in the neighboring class when I was fourteen. I started following him every day when he sang the song "Hope Like a Wind" during a school celebration.

When my mother was still alive, I don't recall telling him that was her favorite song.

My parents perished in a vehicle accident the same year I met Chevron.

I was forced to take over the powerful Harris Family and became Concord City's most powerful person overnight.

I didn't know anything, yet I was constantly besieged by individuals attempting to steal my belongings.

Chevron shone like a warm beacon of hope, piercing the darkness in my heart and allowing me to continue forward.

I grew attached to him, and even if he was aware of it, he was unconcerned. He'd occasionally go into his pocket and hand me a few candy.

When it became late, dad would calmly squat down in front of me and softly pat my head while saying, "It's late, little girl. It's time for me to return home."

As a result, when the Griffin family chairman came to ask me to marry Chevron Griffin, I was pleased and said yes without hesitation.

Even if he doesn't love me, I feel he would still protect and care for me because he is such a warm person.

When he found out he was going to marry me, though, the compassion in his eyes vanished abruptly, like if it was all in my head.

The only thing that remained was the coldness that had turned me into a coward.

I rapidly sniffled as a warm liquid rolled down my face.

My fingers were focused on Chevron's name as I took out my phone.

Chevron's deep voice could be heard on the other end of the line after the phone rang twice before it was connected. He seemed impatient, and his tone was tinged with annoyance.

"What?"

I swallowed the bitterness that kept gushing out of my throat, and said in a calm but pleading tone,

"Chevron, it is Thanksgiving tomorrow. Come back and have some buttermilk buns, is that okay..."

Chevron pulled me to his house for Thanksgiving when I was fourteen, and we spent a pleasant festival together.

If... if we could go back in time and do it all over again...

Would he remember the tiny girl who followed him around every day?

Chevron's harsh voice shattered my aspirations just as I was engaged in the glorious past.

"Buttermilk buns are my least favorite. I don't have any patience for you if you try to play pranks on me."

To keep from screaming out loud, I clasped my collar tightly in front of my chest.

He has no recollection...

In his eyes, I was nothing more than a ruthless woman who plotted ceaselessly in order to marry him.

My heart was numb from the sorrow, and tears streamed freely once more. "Chevron, let's strike a deal," I remarked after taking a long breath.
