Droplets of water pattered continuously, as the rumbling from the storm outside shook the ground beneath her, Wang Yu Yan had every reason to dwell in fear but rather, she felt quite secure. From the walls around her to the make of the furniture, everything felt foreign to her. All but one thing, or shall one say all but one pair of arms.
Wang Yu Yan could feel her heart beating out of her chest at the mere touch of his palm in the small of her back. Her head was glued to his firm chest as they stood in complete darkness accompanied by occasional glints of illumination from the strikes of lightning in the roaring storm.
"Yu Yan", his body vibrated against her ear as it rested on his chest. Her head fitted just below his chin. Momentarily she froze as she heard his voice call out her name, but soon she lifted her eyes to look into his. His face was sculpted perfectly from every angle. Wang Yu Yan couldn't see anything clearly as the storm made it darker than any usual night but somehow everything about him she could see. From the way, his ecliptic black eyes drew her closer to how she kept wondering how his pale but dark lips would taste against her skin.
"Yu Yan", her name rang against his lips this time a lot more alarming, before she could respond his voice rang again, this time much louder, "Yu Yan! Let's go!", his hand was now gripped along her wrist, yanking it along with his body that was now turned, his back facing her.
"Wait! Where are we going?", her body involuntarily followed him as they walked towards what now looked like a door. Her body immediately broke into a cold sweat as her feet kept taking her further and further, "…but there is a storm out there", she couldn't help blurting out.
Just as they reached the oak colored door he turned around to look at her once more," We will be trapped here if we don't leave", he gave her a smile telling her that everything will be okay but Wang Yu Yan couldn't control the fear growing heavy in her lungs, "…but it is safer here, let us just stay here for a while",
The broad-shouldered man took a step closer, bringing his other hand to grab a hold of her shoulder, " Yu Yan, Look around", she immediately turned her head around to see nothing but darkness.
She couldn't help turning abruptly, this time with her whole body to the other side. All that remained in the room was the door. The man that held her wrist was handling the doorknob. When did everything else go?
" What are you doing?", Wang Yu Yan's voice projected louder than she meant to. Fear filled her when she saw the door open. Revealing the pouring storm just a few feet away.
His hand pulled her against her will as she tried to resist," Come on. Yu Yan", one of his legs had already stepped out into the pouring rain," You can't stay trapped in here forever".
Wang Yu Yan's heart sped against her chest as she saw his entire body disappear into the other side of the door frame, all she could see now was his hand on her wrist. Quickly her eyes zoomed into the object on his wrist. She knew what it was, but she had no time for questions as she felt her body closing into the drenched concrete stepped.
Encouraging herself, with a short chant in her head,' You can do this! You can do this, feeling her feet take another step forward she kept on chanting. One foot was out the door when she felt a little bit of excitement, but as her foot made contact with the wet ground she immediately panicked.
Her eyes instantly flew open as they landed on the mahogany of her bedpost.
It was another one of those dreams. Taking deep breaths that slowly soothed the thumping inside her lungs Wang Yu Yan swiftly maneuvered her body sitting upright on the bed she has spent all her nights on ever since was a young-in. Landing her bare toes on the cold hardwood, she walked towards the window. Pulling the two wooden doors open. Wang Yu Yan adjusted her vision as the moon was shining a little brighter than normal tonight.
Was it a full moon already?
She looked around on the deck outside her royal chamber. The guards outside stood positioned at every corner. Wang Yu Yan even saw that one of them was leaning against the wooden post the female guard stood next to. She must've been tired guarding her the entire night.
Wang Yu Yan never had to worry about anyone suspicious breaking in. She was always well protected. She felt grateful for this, however many times she would wonder if her security was actually keeping danger out or just keeping her in.
She folded into a sitting position as she felt the fluffy and soft pillow that was carefully laid on top of the wooden bench. This was Wang Yu Yan's favorite spot in her entire chamber.
It allowed her to see a glimpse of the outside world as it was positioned just beside the window. This gave her a view of the lawn and a few of the servant's chambers along with the guest chambers that never really had guests.
This was all accessible to Wang Yu Yan, but what really made this place her favorite was the fact her chamber stood high enough that she could also see the view of some parts of the town just outside of the palace. It was not a clear view of anything specific but it was just enough to make Wang Yu Yan feel part of a world bigger than the one she has always known.
