Before the age of eighteen, Su Mo's image had always been that of a newly rich daughter. She despised it to the core, and she had always wished for a new beginning.
After she was eighteen years old, she became the daughter of the poor. Only then did she realise how wonderful it was to be the daughter of a nouveau riche family. At the very least, she was so poor that she only had money left.
Now, she only has herself remaining. This was truly a rebirth!
Su Mo took each step with cautious. It was raining a moment ago, the water stains and decaying leaves on the ground had decomposed and clung to the ground. It appeared to be somewhat disgusting.
She always liked to attribute this road to be the reason why she didn't want to go home.
Walking through the market, there was an old building which had been built for many years.
There was a man who was wearing a singlet on the balcony, and a woman's flowery skirt was fluttering in the wind, like millions of national flags could be seen from afar.
It was very vulgar, yet she was now residing here.
This was the old district of City S. It was far away from the city's bustling area. It was crowded, filthy, messy, and noisy. This was the characteristic of this place.
There were different kinds of people living here. Students who had just graduated and were in the lowest level of society, who were common folks. There were also people like her family whose business had gone bankrupt and was living in poverty.
This was her grandfather's home. Before he passed away, he left the house to her. Su Mo never thought that one day this would become the shelter of this family.
Su Mo's heart felt strangely restrained as she travelled along this narrow and dark route.
"Oh, Su Mo is back." Grandpa Chen was her grandpa's chess mate, and took the initiative to take care of them.
Su Mo said politely, "Nice to meet you, Grandpa Chen."
"Su mo, you've become more lovely as you get older."
On that day, she was dressed in a white dress. Her attire seemed really fresh and clean in comparison to the dim lighting.
When they reached the end of this path, they would reach home after a corner.
Su Mo took out the key and was about to open the door, only to find that the door couldn't be opened. She looked at it carefully and found that the door lock had somehow been changed.
Su Mo looked down at the keys in her hand and smiled mockingly. She knocked on the door only after a long time had passed.
"Dad, are you home?"
There was a noise coming from inside after a long time. The door opened with a clang. Su Zhengheng sat in the wheelchair and smiled at her. "Su Mo, you're back?"
Su Mo stared at her father for a while. He appeared to be a lot slimmer than he had been three months before. Su Mo forced herself to smile and said, "Yes, I have to work during the summer vacation and attend an internship once school resumes. I came back to meet my dad, but is Aunt not at home?"
"Your auntie went grocery shopping!" Su Zhengheng replied with a sulky smile on his face.
Buy groceries? It was more believable if he said gambling. She muttered "oh" in a low voice, pretending that she didn't know.
She walked to her room with her stuff, but she was taken aback when she pushed the door open.
The book she had placed on the bookshelves had been flung into the corner in a jumbled manner. Her old bed was gone, and it had been replaced by a new one. Obviously, it was not changed because of her.
She looked back at her father, intending to ask about what had happened.
Su Zhengheng opened his mouth in response to his daughter's awkward expression. He was going to say something when he heard a voice coming from behind him......
"Oh, it turns out that Su mo is back!" It was Miao Fenglan who spoke.
It was Su Mo's stepmother. When she was thirteen years old, Miao Fenglan entered the house while being pregnant.
She carried one in her womb and a daughter in her hand. Su Mo's age was the same as the little girl's, but the little girl was three months younger. Her father asked her to refer her as her sister.
Her hair was wine-red, and she wore bright lipstick. She was dressed in a black dress with a pearl necklace around her neck. She was still dressed like a noble lady.
At that time, the company in which her father had invested had gone bankrupt. He was taken to the hospital after suffering a stroke. Su Mo was nonetheless grateful that she didn't leave.
Although she had never called her mother, she still respected her.
However, Su Mo's respect and Su Zhengheng's tolerance for her, on the other hand, simply encourage her to push her luck even further.
