"Dane" called Kevin few feets a way from Beatrice who flinched at his call causing her heartbeat rate to skyrocket without warning, her reaction to his call never gets old. As Kevin moved closer quickening his pace with each step, the smug grin on his face grew clearer and clearer, there need to be no introduction to know the outcome of this encounter this morning, as It has become a routine since middle school and even now in their second year in The Dillan Highschool.
"Did you finish my report?" He asked finally reaching where she stood few inches away from her locker, as the strong familiar cologne oozing from him filled the air around her. "Yes, I did" she answered in a low voice but loud enough for Kevin who stood close, not minding invading her personal space could hear. "Okay then, I don't need to state it to you nerd, hand it over" he replied passively making emphasis on the nerd as she findled with the lock on her locker before finally opening it and bringing out a binder full of papers that contained the assigned report he had asked for and a few others due today.
If it wasn't obvious enough, Betty is charged with dealing with Kevin's homework and anything school related down to exams while he focuses on he his "Football Career" and in return he doesn't bully poor Beatrice but the lad doesn't fully keep to his end of the deal most of the time but to Betty, it is better than the situation before and she wouldn't want to stop doing it because if she dare does he will bully her into doing it and not "hold back" like he claims to be at the moment.
"Good girl" he said with grin while patting her head that held the roots to her loosely curled golden brown hair that rested few inches down from her elbow and managed to glow even without much care or effort from her. "Don't go today without getting the new ones, am I clear?" He announced coldly looking directly at the pale slender but somewhat curvy image covered with the schools uniform for females consisting of red checked flare skirt with a white long sleeve shirt tucked in it and the schools black suit like Jacket with a logo handsewn on the breasts side. His words sent chills down through her veins even if he hadn't made a direct threat to her she still felt scared, Kevin had that kind of effect on her all the time or everybody has that effect on her because of the power she willfully hands over to them over her that even the weakest of people feel powerful facing her. "Am I clear?" He asked again this time with a little impatience ringing in his voice as she hadn't replied the previous time. She nodded and murmured something that sounded like a yes and Kevin backed away while replying with a "See you later then" backing her in his strode away.
As he walked away from her to a destination unknown to her, she stood still looking at her locker blankly as if staying in that exact position will help her understand why her life is a complete nightmare and the people in it are horrible and no different than monsters, from her step-mother and her daughter, to Kevin, to the school's principal and to her other countless bullies in this hell of a school and far away from her thought miseries that has happened, are happening and will happen her life.
The only good thing, that brings in satisfaction and joy to her life is her academics which is one of the many reasons she is bullied and crowned a nerd by ninety-eight percent of the population in Dillan High. Another added joy is her secret plans of how she plans on making each soul that makes her life a nightmare pay without no mercy when ever the cruel universe gives her an opportunity to and if she felt like making her list of good things long Christian will be number three on that list. Christain Forth the school's heartthrob, failing in all things academics and a feared bad boy at least as they call him, he's not so bad to her if you call posing as someone else in a secret chatroom that he enjoys chatting with and being totally ignored by him in real life good then okay. But if you think about it, this is Betty's idea of you being nice. To her nice is totally ignoring her existence and not following the trend of insulting Beatrice Dane every hour then you are the nicest person ever and her brain seems to hold a theory of them being alike for reasons still unknown to her but her brain tells her so.
The bell chimed and snapped her back to reality, her dreadful reality, one where she's late for class this morning and has to pass through judgemental eyes of students and a nagging teacher she thought. Her walk to class was slow, clouded with thoughts, a quick mental spiral and preparation for the worst that may happen when she gets to class.
Finally arriving at the closed door of her AP chemistry class, she inhaled deeply and exhaled seconds later and opened the door to the class.
Immediately she opened it, the outcome of no maintenance manifested in the creaking noise the friggin door made which in turn made heads turn in her direction and a middle aged female teacher stop talking at mid sentence, closing the door behind her she lifted her head to Mrs. Han her AP chemistry teacher who was already looking her way and tried to make a sentence to apologize for being late but as usual nothing came out. "You are late Miss. Dane" the teacher blurted turning her gaze back to the classroom, "go on and take your seat" she added feeling a bit sorry for the girl. Betty is one of her brightest students and has a fantastic academic career going on but anything other than that she possesses no skill for it and in order for a change like that to happen, a miracle will be involved the teacher thought thought as she watched Beatrice walk to her table shyly. The girl was supposed to apologize immediately to Mrs. Han the teacher for her lateness but she couldn't.
* * *
It was lunchtime now, classes were the usual as Beatrice was the topic of gossip even if her life was boring she seemed like an interesting topic all the time and with or without consideration the impression given of by her peers anytime she's gossiped about is that she's interesting. Also today, she was called the usual names, none that she hadn't heard before but it still got to her all the time, there were some other uncreative ways they came up with in their shallow brains to make Betty feel horrible and all they came up with succeeded. But the highlight was in PE where one of the girls threw a ball at her and it landed hard to her stomach where the force produced a lump of pain and the pain settled in even until lunch period, this is going to make her miss classes she thought, because she was stuck in the nurses office until medications given to her kick in to lessen pain she was going through. Today should be over soon she thought as after school she will be back home to the other two monsters that await her, because her Stepmom and stepsister that are no better than the people here at school. She will be forced with the responsibility to be at their service as a maid even if they have the financial ability to hire much as they desire, but those desires and even happiness lies on ordering poor Betty around all through until their wicked selves weaken from all the bossing around they achieved with their maid and the two decide to recharge with a night's rest to power up and until a new dawn comes and the pitiful cycle of Betty's reality resumes all over again.
As Beatrice laid in the bed covered in white sheets positioned close to a wall in the small office trying to distract herself from the pain and fall asleep, a phone rang but Beatrice couldn't recognize the ringtone as her's so it obviously was the nurses phone ringing, after a few seconds of ringing she picked it up and in less than a minute on the call she hung up, placed the phone in one of her pockets when she stood up from her seat and reached over to where Betty laid looking at her with a soft smile and a little trace of concern then she softly tapped Betty on the shoulder as she took in her tender features that Betty possessed before her eyes flew open. Acting bit surprised at the young woman in front of her, she formed a small smile that signalled the nurse to talk.
"I'm going out for a little break, it might take a while before I finish but I will be back as soon as I can okay dear" she said tenderly with a voice that sounded like she was talking to a five year old. "Okay, no problem" Betty replied now surprised at how nicely she conversed to her, this is a typical reaction of Betty if a single soul managed to be nice to her. "Okay" the nurse smiled again and patted Betty's curly head and added "the drugs will start working soon" then turned towards the direction of the door to exit the office while Betty's green hazel eyes wandered behind her until she left the office.
Moments later after Betty had managed to fall into a light slumber curling up into a ball as she held her stomach with her arms facing the wall where the bed faced as though the position relieved her of the pain, a pair of rough hands held her neck suddenly making her jolt from the handling, her eyes opened up with this and met the sight of one of her nastiest nightmares, the principal…
