No one truly knows when the world began and when it was reset, one day Earth just destroyed itself, leaving behind sand and bodies of water. Along the way to healing itself, new forests began to rise along with humanity and other creatures.

We were once told that humans dominated the old world, we reigned supreme. However in the wake of the reset, most humans didnt survive; in turn the strongest creatures that once were termed as mythical creatures rose to the fore front of the new world. Humans were now at the whims of these creatures, however they grew to live in peace benefiting from one another. Civilizations grew up and once more the Earth began to look more like the old one, but this time the inhabitants of this new world agreed to protect Earth at all cost.

  "Lilly"

Slamming the book shut, I looked over to my mother, laying in bed she looked as though she had just awoken from a nap. But you could see her sunken eyes, and cheek bones spoke of something more.

I rose from my chair and walked to the bedside table reaching for water to hand her. It had been like this ever since I was little. An ugly cycle of mother being sick, eveytime she worsened made for the realization that one day she would leave. We lived on the outskirts of town, though many called us gypsies for traveling in caravans, mother and I had settled in a town once her sickness prevented her from moving too much. Mother had been a healer, she was the medicine woman that everyone went to when sick, how ironic that she had a gift that she couldn't even heal herself with.

Though many didnt know the secret we carried between the two of us. Her healing capabilities were just a front to what she really was able to do, mother was a witch. A white witch, the rarest of of witches and it just so happened she passed that along to me as well. She had taught me everything she knew, especially since we didnt know when her time would come, she made sure I knew everything I could. We were making a living from me treating the people of this town, though gypsies were not likable by the general public this town needed a healer badly enough to open us with welcome arms.

Once mother slipped back asleep, I headed for the door, picking up the water jug on the way out I looked back once more at her sleeping form before shutting the door. Mother was once very beautiful, we could even be mistaken as twins with our same long black hair, golden skin and amber eyes. It saddened me everyday that she grew weaker by the moment, even trying to research her illness we new she was out of time.

Adjusting the water jug on my hip, I headed into town. Most towns like this one were on the cusp of forests, houses were built of clay and dirt, roofs dry grasses. Only the nobles or higher ranked used marble or more expensive earth to build their homes. Trees were forbidden to be touched, therefore no wood could be used. Only if the tree was dead or dead branches found could it be used for building or fires. Since mythical creatures came about, most could conjure fire without the use of kindling. Towns benefited from the richness of the soil that the forest which allowed for farming along the woods, forest sprites helped to maintain the forest along with helping the farmers water their fields. But that didnt erase the fact that deserts still surrounded everyone.

As I strode along the paths, passing busy people all working on some kind of task, I smiled and greeted them all. It was good to leave a positive impression, mother always stressed that. I went about checking on our known clients, making sure they had there medicine or checked for further progression of an illness. Most clients were elderly, by elderly I mean in there 50s. Humans didnt live long, though there were tales of humans living up into there 100s in the old world. The new one world was just too cruel. If mom hadnt been a witch she probably would have perished long ago, luckily our bodies were resilient and healed fast. We also aged much slower than humans.

After hours spent checking and treating clients I headed back to our small hutch, water jug full from the well and arms full of bread from happy clients. I opened the door slowly, only to be welcomed by a smiling mother. She looked good, but of course she did. Tonight would be a clear night, the moon would be clear to see, mother said we white witches were born from the light of the moon. Black witches born from the shadow of the moon. We celebrated the phases of moon because it gave us strength and healing. Mother was temporarily better under the light and we thanked the moon goddess Luna for it.
