FADE IN:

ACT 1

SCENE 1

INT. Inside a room. It's dark... and quiet.

The clock rings.

A man stands up. He is naked.

He gets out of his room and goes into the bathroom, which is the next room.

He looks in the mirror.

Gale Hughes

he is a 33 year-old man. He is not very handsome... he is an ordinary man. He has got blond hair, beard and brown eyes

Good morning, Gale. I wish you... a perfect day. Even if I know it's going to be... a fucking awful day.

He washes his face.

Glory Hughes

yelling from downstairs

Gale! Breakfast awaits you!

Gale Hughes

to himself, the one in the mirror

What did I tell you?

Then he answers his mom.

Gale Hughes

to his mother

I'm coming... in two minutes.

...

After washing and getting dressed, Gale goes downstairs. He goes to his mother and kisses her on her forehead.

Glory Hughes

a very fat woman, 61 years old, sitting on a chair and watching her show on a small TV. She doesn't take her eyes from the TV when her boy comes

My dear, the food is on the table. Bon appétit...

Gale Hughes

Thank you, mum...

The man goes to the table where he can see his breakfast.

He gets the eggs... that are on the table, then, some bacon. He breaks them and puts them into a bowl. He adds some bacon and scrambles the content of the bowl.

He puts it into a pan. He puts it on the gas cooker. After one minute it's ready.

He puts almost all the food in the pan into a plate; he adds two sausages, bread, lots of cheese and gives it to his mother.

The woman takes the plate and begins to eat.

Gale goes to the table and puts the rest of the food into another plate and begins to eat.

Glory Hughes

yelling

Son! Are you trying to kill me!?

The woman begins to cough hard. The man stands up and runs to his mother.

Gale Hughes

scared

Mom... are you ok?

The woman gives the plate to the man and pushes him because he stands in front of the TV and she doesn't see what's happening there.

Glory Hughes

Fuck it, boy... it's the Royal Wedding. And you make me miss it...

Gale moves on his mother's left side and waits.

Gale Hughes

What's wrong with the food, mum?

Glory Hughes

You know I can't eat eggs without cheese on them. And cut the sausages and put them with the eggs. I want them to be hot. And make two pancakes for me...

The man looks at the clock.

Gale Hughes

whispering to himself

Yesterday you ate just like this...

Glory Hughes

without taking her eyes from the TV

What...? You say something.

The man looks again at the clock.

Gale Hughes

Mom... could you eat this? It's late and I really have to go to work...

Glory Hughes

this time looking at him

Do I really have to do everything by myself!? Cooking, washing, cleaning...

Gale Hughes

Mom... but I do all this...

Glory Hughes

very upset

Gale Hughes! You want me to do all this at my age!? You know that many people die just because they stand up from their chair... break leg, get infection and die... You want me dead...?!

Gale Hughes

whispering to himself

As far as I can see, you'll live 1000 years... Never get up from that chair...

Glory Hughes

What!? You know old people can't hear as well as you. Especially me, at my age... almost 70 years old.

Gale Hughes

You're only 61 years old, mom. And you'll live forever...

Glory Hughes

When you are more than 60, it means you're almost 70. It's easy for you. You're young, you've just eaten... Why do you care? You have me to do everything for you. But I'm not your housekeeper... You must learn to do it by yourself. Cleaning, cooking, washing...

Gale Hughes

sighing

Ok, mom. I'll do what you ask me...

The man returns to the table and begins to cook what his mother asks for.

Glory Hughes

slightly taking her head in her hands

God... How long do I have to do it only by myself?...

She smiles when she sees the Sussex Duchess on TV.

Glory Hughes

My darling... the Sussex Duchess. I love you so much...

Gale cooks what his mother asks for. He gives the plate to his mother. The woman takes the plate and starts eating.

The man takes his jacket and goes to the door.

Gale Hughes

Bye, mom...

Glory Hughes

Bye. And next time try to wake up earlier so you won't be late for work.

Gale Hughes

whispering to himself

Next time don't give me to wash so many clothes... and iron so many clothes... to be so late...

Glory Hughes

What!?

Gale Hughes

Nothing... I love you.

Glory Hughes

Ya, ya. Go to work. How else can I pay the bills?

And the man leaves.
