Amanda’s POV

“Being rich is meant to be fun but my God it doesn’t feel so fun to me anymore.” I rolled my eyes.

I looked at the scattered documents on the table and sighed.

“I have a lot of work to do, fr.”

Just then, my phone started ringing. I looked at the screen and saw Melanie’s name.

Finally, something that wasn’t tiring to do.

I picked up the call immediately, excited to talk to my best friend.

“Hey babe, what’s up?”

“Girl, what have you been up to? We haven’t spoken in a minute.”

“I’ve been so busy with the business since my dad is on vacation. And you know how he gets when things don’t get done on time.” “Girl, you don’t have to tell me. I know your dad for real.”

We both laughed over the phone.

“But seriously, I think your dad needs to take a chill pill. He’s always so serious.

It’s scary.”

“Girl, tell me about it,” I replied, laughing.

Melanie, let’s go to the club today. I’ve been working for so long and I need something to distract me.”

I was on a phone call with my best friend, Melanie while going through some clothes in my wardrobe.

“Girl, I thought you would never ask,” she laughed. “You’ve been working every time. I’m even scared to ask you to come to my house anymore.”

I laughed.

“I just have to work to make my dad proud. Besides, summer is coming soon. I think I’ll take a break and maybe travel to Morocco.”

“With your man?” she asked.

I smiled.

“Of course. With my man.”

There was a short silence.

“Bitch, what man?”

We both burst out laughing.

“Exactly!” I said. “I don’t even have a man. My mum just doesn’t rest with these blind dates. I’m tired.”

Before Melanie could reply, I heard a knock on my door.

One of the maids walked in.

“Good evening, Miss Amanda. Your mother wants to see you in her room.”

I sighed.

“Ugh. I’ll call you back, babe.”

“Okay, but don’t forget about tonight!”

“I won’t.”

I ended the call and dropped my phone on the bed.

I had no idea what my mother wanted this time.

I walked to her room and knocked before entering.

“Mother, you called for me. What’s up?”

My mother was standing in front of her mirror, getting ready.

“Amanda baby, can you help me with my zipper?”

I stared at her.

She has several maids in this house, and somehow I’m the one she needs to help her with a zipper.

I walked over and helped her.

“Thank you, baby.”

“You’re welcome.”

She continued doing her makeup for a few seconds before speaking again.

“Do you remember Alicia Stones, My book club partner?”

“Oh yes,” I said. “The woman you secretly hate.”

She turned around and laughed.

“Amanda!”

“What? You know it’s true.”

We both laughed.

Then she suddenly became quiet.

“You know her son, right?”

I immediately knew where this was going.

“Mum, please.”

“What?”

“I’ve already told you. I’m not interested in any more blind dates.” She rolled her eyes.

“I know, but you need to find a companion. At least a boyfriend.”

“I know I will eventually. Just not now.”

My mother looked at me through the mirror.

“You can’t keep saying that forever.”

“I can actually.”

She sighed.

“I promise, if you go on this date, I won’t disturb you anymore.”

I stared at her.

“I know you just want to get close to this woman because of the position and all those political stuff”

“If you know this, why can’t you just do this for your mother, maybe you might eventually like him.”

“Oh please you don’t like the mother how would I like the son”

I replied.

That was probably the fifth time she’d made that promise.

“Oh my days, Mum. Fine. One last time. But I’m serious. I’m not doing this again.”

Her face immediately lit up.

Why do you look so happy?”

“Because my daughter is finally listening to her mother.”

“It’s one date, Mum. Don’t start planning a wedding.”

She laughed.

“We’ll see.”

Something about the way she said it made me suspicious.

I shook my head.

“I’ll see you later. If you need anything, call me.”

I turned to leave.

“By the way,” she called after me. “It’s tomorrow. I’ll get you a dress when I’m coming back.”

I stopped at the door.

“Tomorrow?”

“Yes.”

I sighed.

“I’m so tired of all this.”

I really hope this is the last blind date this woman is planning.

My mother laughed as I walked out of the room.

I went back to my bedroom and picked up my phone.

I already knew Melanie was going to laugh when I told her.
