In the dead of the night, a heavy rain plummets.
On the highway, a black Lincoln drives at a steady pace. Where it passes, splashes of water are kicked up.
Suddenly, a figure dashes out like lightning. Even though the driver slams on the brakes urgently, the impact is unavoidable.
"Squeal!"
The screech of the brakes pierces through the night, intensifying the fearfulness.
The driver is dumbfounded, motionless for a moment. He turns back towards the person in the back seat.
It's a man whose beauty is so breathtaking, it's almost alarming. His skin is pale to the point of appearing sickly, but it does not give off a sense of fragility or vulnerability. His lips are pressed together lightly, and his features look as though they were meticulously carved.
His eyes are slightly squinting, deep as the ocean, sharp yet crystal clear.
"Go and check," the man speaks, his voice sounding as though it hails from ancient times, alluring and melodious.
The driver nods, hastily getting out of the car.
A young woman lies in front of the car, her figure frail, her long hair disheveled. The driver squats down and lightly nudges her, but the woman does not respond.
He places his hand under her nose, her breath is very weak.
Lifting her into the car, he puts her onto the front passenger seat. The driver quickly restarts the car, disappearing into the unending night rain.
A jolt of pain courses through her body, Ava Vaughn wakes up from her sobbing.
Alexander Wolfe looked at the girl on the bed, her face pale and obviously malnourished. Wrinkling his beautiful eyebrows in concern, he lightly nudged her, trying to wake her up.
Unexpectedly, Ava Vaughn suddenly grabbed his hand and bit down hard.
Pain coursed through his hand, and Alexander Wolfe's brows furrowed but he did not voice any complaint.
The very next second, Ava Vaughn woke up with a sharp scream, sitting bolt upright in bed.
The modern, minimalist decor was completely foreign to her. Ava Vaughn warily scanned her surroundings. When she saw Alexander Wolfe, her almond-shaped eyes almost rounded in surprise. She had never before seen a man so handsome.
"Who are you? Where am I?" Ava Vaughn's voice was hoarse from disuse. All she could remember was leaving the hospital after taking care of her dad and getting into an accident after it started raining heavily.
Alexander Wolfe looked at the weak girl before him, her cheeks as pale as paper, her large eyes moist and full of spirit. Her features were delicate and while not stunning, were pleasant to the eye.
"I apologize. I couldn’t hear you. I accidentally hit you with my car earlier, and you fainted. So, we brought you back here.", Alexander Wolfe answered, pointing to his ear and giving a small half-smile, seeming to carry a hint of regret.
Ava Vaughn paused for a moment before giving a small, embarrassed laugh. Seeing a pen and paper on the bedside table, she picked it up and wrote: "I’m sorry. I didn't know. Thank you for saving me. I’m fine now, so I will be on my way home."
After setting down the pen, Ava Vaughn got out of bed and began to walk towards the exit. Behind her, Alexander Wolfe's cool voice rang out, "Let me arrange for my driver to take you home. It's late, and it's still raining."
At his words, Ava Vaughn looked towards the floor-to-ceiling window. The rain outside was still pouring down, signaling no indication of stopping anytime soon. Slowly turning around, she nodded at Alexander Wolfe, wanting to say thank you. But, remembering that Alexander Wolfe couldn't hear, she only gave him a slight smile.
Before his eyes, Ava Vaughn was like a gentle white chrysanthemum in full bloom. Her calm demeanor could not help but move Alexander Wolfe.
Watching Ava Vaughn leave, his eyes gradually softened, and the smile on his face slowly faded.
The screen of the phone on the table suddenly lit up, ringing with a simple sound. Long strides carried him over, and he pressed the answer button.
"Young Master Alexander, the old master has spoken. If your elder brother hasn't had a child after three years of marriage, he will be removed from the position of CEO.”
“Hmm, does this mean we should do something about it?” Alexander Wolfe stood in front of the floor-to-ceiling window, his tall and straight figure casting a long shadow under the light. The aura emanating from him was sharp, a stark contrast to his usual warmth, almost as if they were two different people.
