CHAPTER 1
KINGS HOTEL.
‘’ Are you that happy about the engagement?’’ a soft voice asked.
‘’ Yes, Lora. I’m so excited. My dream is finally coming to pass!’’
Glyndon comically threw her arms and legs around as the makeup artist dolled her up.
‘’ I can see that. Girl, you’re tripping for this dude!’’ Lora smiled, causing Glyndon to let out a silent chuckle, which then slowly turned into a mirthful but stilted giggle.
‘’ Who won’t fall for him? He is Landon Kings, of course. The most handsome guy in Las Vegas.’’
Glyndon clapped her hands dreamily, causing Lora to roll her eyes at her silly friend.
‘’ Oh goodness, my friend is a goner.’’ Lora groaned playfully.
‘’ No, I’m not a goner. It’s just that I’m in love. He is just so handsome and romantic.’’ Glyndon jerked her head off as if stung by a bee.
‘’ Okay, fine. I’ve heard you. Just stay put, the engagement would be starting any time from now.’’ Lora flashed her a smile.
Soon, Glyndon was ready. She was dressed in a green evening gown with strapless arms.
She looked so gorgeous and stunning as she made her way into the hall with all eyes on her.
‘’ Wow, she looks like a goddess. Landon should be grateful for having a goddess as his fiancée.’’
A group of young men spoke, as their eyes were fixed on Glyndon.
The engagement began after a short while and Glyndon joined Landon who had an impatient look on.
All he wanted at that moment was to get the engagement over with and leave.
Glyndon smiled at Landon which he returned shortly.
Her enigmatic emerald eyes have the power to captivate anyone, but not for Landon.
He sees her as just a childhood friend, and not a woman.
To him, she didn’t possess what he wanted in a woman.
‘’ What are you thinking?’’ Glyndon’s soft voice echoed into Landon’s ear, causing him to turn swiftly to her, flashing one of his charming smiles.
‘’ Nothing. I’m just excited that we are getting engaged.’’ Landon whispered.
‘’ Me too.’’ Glyndon muttered, chewing on her lower lips shyly.
After exchanging rings, the party commenced fully.
As the couples went ahead to greet the guests, Landon's eyes were glued to his phone.
He never tore his eyes off it as a smile appeared on his lips, causing Glyndon to wonder what he was doing on his phone.
She was so curious but had no way to bring up the topic, so as not to sound desperate and jealous when they just got engaged barely a few minutes ago.
“ Hey, Landon. Why are your eyes glued to the phone? Can't you see that guests are here to congratulate us?” Glyndon whispered, catching Landon off guard.
“ I'm sorry about that.” He smiled and turned off his phone.
“ I can't believe my dreams are finally coming to pass.”
Mrs Kings smiled happily as she approached the couples with her husband and father-in-law.
“ Welcome Ma.” Glyndon smiled upon seeing Landon's mother.
“ Oh, c'mon Glyndon. Call me mother. You're officially my daughter-in-law.”
“ Mom, stop getting ahead of yourself. We're not married yet.”
Landon cut in between the conversation, causing Glyndon to bit her lower lips as she looked at him.
“ Don't mind him, he is just being overly excited.”
“ Where is Cole? I thought he had already arrived at the party, but I couldn't find him anywhere.”
Landon asked, looking around for any sight of his older brother.
“ He is drinking alone. He didn't even tell us he was coming.” Mrs Kings rolled her eyes.
“ Who is Cole?” Glyndon asked, her voice barely above a whisper.
“ My older brother.” Landon replied, causing her eyes to widen.
“ You have an older brother? I have no idea that you have an older brother all these years. Where has he been?”
“ He spent all his life in Canada and only returned because of our engagement.” Landon said and Glyndon's cheeks turned another shade of red.
She loved the fact that he called it, ‘ our engagement’.
She was still blushing hard when Landon's phone rang. He took it and picked the call, smiling brightly like earlier.
Once he was done with the call, he turned towards Glyndon with his usual charming smile which seems to be her weakness.
“ I have to go see someone real quick. Cover up for me if anyone asks.”
He whispered into her ear and gave her a light peck before leaving.
Ten minutes….
Twenty minutes later, Landon didn't return, making Glyndon worry about him, so she decided to look around the hotel in search of him.
As she made her way past some guests, she was suddenly called by someone, causing her to turn around.
“ Did you call me?” Glyndon asked politely as she walked to one of the guests who had called her.
“ Yes, I did. You must be feeling on top of the world just because you got engaged to him.”
The lady mumbled, while Glyndon arched a brow.
She obviously heard what the lady said but decided to remain quiet.
“ How can I help you?” She asked with a straight face.
“ This is Cole, Landon's Older brother. He is drunk and I need you to take him to his hotel room, since Landon is nowhere to be found.” The lady replied.
“ Why should I do that? Why don't you take him to his room yourself?” Glyndon asked, trying not to sound rude.
“ I have to leave as someone is waiting for me, so please help me take him to his hotel room.”
As soon as the lady said those words, she walked out of the party, leaving drunk Cole to Glyndon who almost rolled her eyes at him.
“ You must feel so happy to get engaged to my brother, don't you?” Cole slurred as his eyes jerked to her face.
“ Yes, I do, so stand up let's go to your hotel room.” Glyndon said through gritted teeth.
“ I can go to my room by myself, except you want to come with me.”
His lips twisted into a diabolic smile, causing shivers to run through her spine.
Even in his drunken state, he looks so cold and scary.
“ Let's go. I'm being nice because you're my brother-in-law.”
She helped him up and left the engagement hall, making her way to his lodge.
Getting married to Landon was nice, but becoming the future daughter-in-law of the Kings was a dream come through for Glyndon.
Because of the family’s influence, she was being respected by all and treated like a princess.
Upon getting to Cole’s lodge, she dropped him on his bed, breathing heavily as though she had ran a five hundred metre race.
“ He is f*ck*ng heavy.” She groaned and turned to leave, but he grabbed her hand.
“ Where do you think you're going?” He fixed his lascivious gaze on Glyndon's alluring body.
“ Where else? To my engagement party, of course.” Glyndon replied with an eye roll.
“ Not when I'm turned on by your beauty.” He slurred, causing her to arch her brows.
“ Hello, young man. It would be best to get yourself a b*tch to f*ck, but as for me, I'm already engaged to your younger brother.”
Glyndon showed her ring finger to him, maybe, just maybe, his sense which flew out of the window, would return.
“ Well, I give zero fucks about that.” Cole let out a salacious smile, and stood up from the bed.
“ Stay away from me…I will tell Landon about this…”
Fear crawled it way into her heart as she took slow steps backwards, but Cole did the same.
She felt intimidated under his scrutinising gaze and when her back came in contact with the nearest wall, she felt as if it should open and swallow her.
“ Please, let me go. Landon is waiting for me.” Glyndon's voice came out as a muffle.
“ Like I said a while ago, I give zero fucks about Landon or anyone.”
He placed his muscled arms on the wall, trapping her against it.
“ Cole, you're drunk. Don't do this,” Glyndon pleaded, trying to push him away from her.
“ You're just so beautiful to let go, Glyn. I can't let my brother have you alone, not when I'm turned on by you.”
“ I'm getting married to your brother next month. Please, don't do this!”
Glyndon begged desperately, but the man overpowered her, his amber-woody scent intoxicating her.
