Mia’s POV
“Festus?”
I stood there, staring at them.
Andrea.
And the man I loved.
My heart sank.
I couldn’t believe what I was seeing.
“Why are you here with my sister?”
Neither of them answered.
I took a step closer, hoping that what I was seeing wasn’t real.
Then I noticed the way they looked at each other.
The same way Festus had looked at me when he told me he loved me.
My eyes filled with tears.
“Tell me this isn’t what I think it is.
”
Before either of them could answer—
My chest tightened.
I couldn’t breathe.
Everything around me became blurry.
Three weeks earlier.
Festus and I had become so strong. My love for Festus had increased, but he still had his plans
in check. Festus kept coming to see me while he and Andrea kept meeting secretly. He tended
to say the right things to me, which continued to make me vulnerable to him.
I always told myself that Festus was my answered prayer.
Festus showed up at my house again as usual.
“Dress up. We’re going out,
” he said.
I was so happy about this. I rushed into my room and got dressed. When I was done dressing, I
asked Andrea how I looked.
“Andrea, how do I look?”
She gave me a very demeaning look and didn’t answer me.
I mean, I was used to her behaving like that towards me, so I didn’t think much about it. I left the
room and came out to meet Festus.
When Festus saw me, he smiled.
“You are so beautiful,
” he said.
I smiled at him.
“Thank you so much.
”
Then we left for the restaurant.
On getting to the restaurant, Festus kept using his phone. I started to feel uncomfortable. Then I
looked at him.
“I’m still here,
” I said.
Festus looked at me and smiled.
“I’m sorry,
” he said.
He dropped his phone, and then I had his attention again.
“I want to know you on a deeper level,
” I said.
He smiled again.
“Ask me anything.
”
I thought for a moment.
“How’s your business going?”
He leaned back on his chair.
“It’s been going well. I need to make more investment, and I’ll be employing new staff very soon
because the workload at the office is getting too much.
”
Then I told him about my sister, Andrea.
“You can employ Andrea. She graduated last year and has a very good result.
”
Hearing this from me, Festus was very shocked, but he couldn’t show it.
“I’ll see what I can do for her,
” he said.
I was very pleased with his answer.
“Thank you, Festus.
”
We kept on talking and had a good night.
After the date, Festus took me home.
On getting home, I went to Andrea’s room to tell her about me speaking to Festus.
“Andrea, I spoke to Festus about you. I told him you graduated last year and that you have a
very good result. I told him he could employ you.
”
Andrea was lowkey happy because she knew this was going to be in her favour. She smiled at
me.
I was really pleased that Andrea smiled at me because the tension in the house was too much. I
was happy to see her smile and said to myself, Maybe things will finally be resolved between
me and Andrea.
That same night, Andrea stepped out to speak to Festus so I wouldn’t notice. They spoke for a
long time.
“I was thinking about you so much on my date with Mia,
” Festus told Andrea.
Andrea smiled.
“I missed you too.
”
I noticed how long Andrea was on that call, but I never knew she was speaking to Festus.
The next day, Festus came to the house with gifts for me and got a gift for Andrea too.
A Cartier watch.
I was shocked at how Festus got that for her because Andrea had always wanted that watch.
But I just didn’t think much of it.
“Thank you so much,
” I said.
Festus smiled.
“Tell Andrea to resume at the office today.
”
Hearing this, I was so pleased.
“Thank you so much, Festus.
”
“Anything to make you happy.
”
Then he left.
I went to Andrea and handed the gift to her.
“Get ready. You are resuming at Festus’ company today.
”
Andrea stood up.
“Thank you, Mia.
”
I smiled and left to my room.
I lay on my bed, and tears rolled down my eyes.
I wish I was okay health-wise. I would have been able to work like every other person.
I cleaned my tears.
“It’s okay,
” I said to myself.
things are going to fall in place for me.

“As far as a man like Festus and his status can love me this much,
Andrea resumed at work and went straight to Festus’ office.
On getting there, Festus was already there waiting for her with beautiful flowers as a welcome
gift.
Andrea entered and walked majestically to Festus. Then she sat on his lap, and they started
making out on his desk.
They kept going on and on until my call came in.
Festus wanted to pick the call, but Andrea stopped him from picking it, and they kept going on
and on.
I was home thinking about why he didn’t pick.
Maybe he’s in a meeting.
I laid down, and I slept off.
Later that day, Andrea came back from work with the flower bouquet.
I looked at her.
“Who got you the flowers?”
She looked at me.
“An anonymous admirer got it for me.
”
I looked at her and smiled.
“Wow, you have an admirer. I’m so happy for you.
”
“Thanks,
” she said.
Then she left.
I called Festus to ask how Andrea did on her first day.
Festus, how did Andrea do on her first day?
He answered.
She did really well. We had a senior staff put her on. In no time, she will be familiar with the
work.
Thank you so much, Festus.
We continued our conversation.
After a few days, my dad and I went to the hospital for my usual check-up.
After the whole check-up, on our way home, I turned to my dad.
Dad, I want to be the one to drive us back home.
My dad looked at me.
No.
Please, Dad. It’s been long since I drove.
No, Mia.
Please, Dad. Just let me drive. I promise I’ll be careful.
I kept begging and begging until my dad finally let me.
Okay, fine. You can drive.
I smiled.
Thank you, Dad.
Everything was going smoothly until I got to the highway. I increased my speed and got
distracted by my dad telling me to slow down.
Mia, slow down!
I looked at him.
Okay, Dad.
But before I knew it, we had an accident.
