With each step I take, my heartbeat also gets faster. My chest tightens for no clear reason. I could not hold back the tears and my legs were weakening from chasing the plane that was flying in the distance.
I stopped and stumbled, watching the plane take off as my chest continued to tighten.
I suddenly woke up to the sound of my cellphone ringing. Feeling annoyed, I picked it up that was above my desk and looked at who it was.
Keeyana.
It was only eight o'clock in the morning but she was already disturbing my peaceful day.
“Hello?! Where are you? Are you awake?” Keeyana said. "Perhaps, you're still lying there?" she added.
“It is early morning, Keeyana. You even preceded my alarm clock with your loud voice. Besides, it's only eight o'clock, we'll go to the mall at ten o'clock, ” I stated.
“Don’t you want that? Did anyone call you to say good morning? By the way, you’ll pick up AC at the coffee shop,” she said on the other phone line.
"'Okay,” I said in a lazy tone and I immediately dropped the call even though she had something more to say. I don't want to hear any noise in my quiet morning.
I immediately went to the comfort room to brush my teeth and take a bath. I have lost my memories due to an accident, even my memories with my cousin, Keeyana. I don't remember anything and all the things we used to do together as a child has disappeared from my memory.
Flashback
“Hi, Aunt Elena! I missed you, "said a girl my age. She met Mommy at our main door. Mommy and I were on the side while I was sitting in the wheelchair and our nanny was holding the back of the wheelchair.
"Keeyana, thank you for coming," mommy greeted her and she kissed the girl named Keeyana on the cheeks.
"Of course, Tita, as long as you call, no more excuses, after all, you are my favorite aunt. I am also with my friends and Alexandra is also with us," said Keeyana. She opened our main door widely, "come in!"
Two girls and a soft-spoken man entered. In my opinion, we almost had the same age.
"Come in," mommy said simply but elegantly. "Keeyana, the one we talked about last month. You'll take care of your cousin when I'm not around," she said to Keeyana with a smile. and then she turned around to me look at me, "Elaine, my daughter, she is Keeyana, your cousin."
“Elaine, I miss you!” Keeyana hugged me as I sat in the wheelchair. I was a bit stuck in the wheelchair because of the tightness of her hug. I could see their smiles but a woman with Keeyana looked at me with a cold gaze.
“You may not remember me but don’t worry, we will make memories together again! Like we used to, " she smiled.
"Anyway, Elaine, these are my friends, Aristea, Kersian, and Alexandra," she said and pointed at them one by one.
Aristea is not tall but not too small either. Her hair is brown and the ends are gray. It was also curly which made her even more beautiful. Her eyes are also narrow and her lips are rosy. Kersian was standing next to Aristea. He is tall and has clean-cut hair. He’s handsome but he wears make-up. And the third one is Alexandra, I don’t understand what her cold gaze at me is for, or is that how she really stares? She has messy short hair with bangs, an all-black outfit matching her dark aura.
Ever since Keeyana introduced the three to me, we’ve always been together. I didn’t leave the mansion until I was able to walk properly again. Our friendship soon grew stronger.
End of flashback
After I took a bath, I immediately looked for something to wear. My large wardrobe was full but I still preferred jeans and a white spaghetti strap crop top. A pair of blue jeans and a black boyfriend coat. I got my purse and went downstairs.
I immediately saw mommy and daddy with some maid that is preparing meals at the long table. I immediately approached them and waved.
“How’s your sleep sweetie?” Mommy asked aster she greeted me. I was hesitant about what to say.
"It's fine, Mommy," I answered, "but I always have this weird dream," I said nervously.
“What is it? Tell me, we will gladly listen to your story,” said daddy while giving me an assuring smile. Then he glanced at mommy strangely.
“I always dreamed that I was running at the airport? Then I chase a plane that is flying,” I told them while staring at my breakfast.
“I can feel the pain in my chest,” I said softly and then bravely looked into their eyes, “I can feel it as if it was real!”
"Elaine, calm down. It's bad for your health to think about things," Mommy said.
"Besides, maybe you just remember the TV series you watched before," they added.
"Is it possible that's part of my lost memory?" I asked eagerly because I wanted to hear the answer.
“You never did that stupid thing. It's much better not to think too much or worry about everything and you might get dizzy again,” daddy said. I frowned and immediately finished my breakfast and drank some water. I also immediately said goodbye to my parents and asked our driver to pick up AC.
When we arrived at the coffee shop where AC worked, I immediately opened the car window. Because of the glass window, I saw her inside waiting for me. The driver beeped the car for AC to notice us, she immediately turned her head in our direction and waved.
She quickly got out and went to our car, I moved so that she could sit next to me. She’s wearing a simple oversize black shirt and an old jeans. She opened the door and sat down smiling.
“Elaine! Thank you!” she immediately kissed me on the cheeks and I immediately smiled, "How are you? Aren't you dizzy or what?”
“I’m completely fine AC, don’t worry too much, okay?” I said to her. She smiled.
“What a good thing! You often feel dizzy or faint suddenly ‘when we’re together,” she said, “but what does it feel like to have amnesia?” she added and laughed.
“Don’t say weird things AC, it’s so hard! I can't remember anything. I don't even remember what my name was at first, " I rolled my eyes. "I also don't know if this life is really mine. If I'm really the daughter of De Mevius, " I added.
“Omygod?! Are you serious? You are the daughter of one of the best families in the country and then you will say that? If I we’re you, girl, I won’t give a damn about my past and if who I am before. Even if I'm not their child, as long as I'm rich and I can buy everything I want. I’ll just go with the flow,” chattered AC.
“Not everything can be bought with money, just like my memories,” I said.
"I hope I can say that too," she laughed but she suddenly became serious.
"But it's very impossible that you're not their child, Elaine. I can feel their love for you, why would you doubt them?"
"Yeah," I said when I realized what she said. Why should I doubt them if they provide for all my needs and I can still feel their love for me as a parent?
I smiled. I can say everything to AC, she became my best friend since I met her at the coffee shop. I spilled my coffee on her by accident, I felt so bad so I waited for her to finish her duty and took her to the mansion. I lent her some of my clothes that I don't use. From then on, I always went to the coffee shop and always talked to her. I introduced her to Keeyana and her friends. After some time, we all became close.
We immediately arrived at the mall where we will meet. AC and I got off and our driver left immediately. We looked around and I saw Aristea's curly hair, it was brown and gray. She was already with the others, aside from Keeyana. She and Kersian were teasing each other while Alexandra was looking at them with a poker face.
"Aristea!" I shouted and pulled AC to where they were, “where is Keeyana?” I asked when I arrived at their spot.
"You looked sexy, Elaine, even if it's just jeans and a crop top," Kersian complimented me so I smiled at him.
“How dare you! Earlier, you called me fat because you can see my navel, but when it comes to Elaine you will call her sexy?” said Aristea to Kersian and she rolled her eyes. I also rolled my eyes at them.
"There's Keeyana!" Kersian pointed behind us so I turned around. There was Keeyana is, wearing sunglasses and an elegant pantsuit. She was walking in our direction while sipping a large cup of Starbucks. People were looking at her and she didn't care about them as she walked towards us.
I can't help but to frown when I saw her holding a shopping paper bag that I guess she just bought a while ago.
“Omygod, girl. Our dearest Keeyana had her grand entrance. Is that your outfit, girl? Are you in the office? "Kersian said teasingly.
"What's up, Keeyana?" I sighed as I greeted her.
“Why? It's not enough,” she said, pertaining to the things she bought. Then she removed her sunglass, "come on, there's still a long line at the cinema, I don't want to wait."
Keeyana immediately went ahead. Kersian walked with her, while Aristea walked with Alexandra. AC and I hold hands while walking.
“Keeyana, what “wait” are you saying? In fact, you and Kersian were always going shopping while we are bored in the line,” AC said.
"It's so boring in the waiting line," Keeyana complained. We immediately reached the waiting line. Keeyana and Kersian went somewhere while the four of us were waiting. When we got the tickets, we waited for another ten minutes for Keeyana and Kersian. We enter altogether inside the cinema.
We were all focused on watching the movie entitled: What Happened to Monday. It's so nice and cool because they are in a world where the law is a one-child policy. But they are seven twins so they hid their true identity for several years. Eventually, the first twin betrayed them so they were killed one after another. Only two of them survived because one of them had to kill the traitor.
We watched in amazement. I feel something strange so I looked behind me just to see Alexandra that is looking at me. I feel terrified so I immediately averted my gaze. She is very quiet but I feel strange about her.
I don't understand but I feel like she knows every move I make, even every word I say. She is very quiet and mysterious but there is a part of me that makes me feel that we are close before.
It's like we've known each other for a long time.
