"Will you be ok?“

A voice that conveyed how much love and adoration it held toward the female it was intended inquired.

It was deep and masculine, befitting the dashing young man it belonged to.

The girl shifted on her seat in a way that she remained almost cuddled up by him as she faced him.

Though his tone barely conveyed anything other than his care for her, she could taste the worry laced in it. Thus, she looked down at where their hands were joined and gave it a slight squeeze.

“I am ok, Damon. I will be better when those who harmed me are six feet beneath the ground,” she reassured.

Her hazel eyes sparkled with unwavering determination, one that showed how she wouldn’t back down until her wish was met. She wouldn’t give up until those criminals got what they deserved.

She will make sure of it!

Damon hummed. “I will do everything within my power to see to it that you get your justice, he assured her. “But please don’t be irrational when you see, especially him. I know how badly that memory must hurt; however, you must remain in control of your emotions today, Ellona.”

Ellona leaned back on the leather car seat and uttered nothing to regard what Damon had just said.

She looked up ahead through the AudiA4 vehicle they were in and saw there was little traffic.

Though Damon couldn’t be considered wealthy, he wasn’t poor either. He was a guy who could very well care for his livelihood. Hence he could afford to have such a car for example.

‘Shit, I can’t be late.’ Ellona murmured inwardly, seeing the traffic ahead of them.

There was no way she would miss the conviction of those criminals. Even if it meant she would have to order a moto-cab in order to make it to the court in time, then so be it. To hell with whatever circumstances that might try to stop her from witnessing today’s judgment!

“How much longer until we arrive at our destination?” Ellona enquired.

“About seven more minutes,” Damon answered.

Ellona pulled her right wrist forward to have a look at the time, and an audible sigh left her throat when she saw they had thirty more minutes until the hearing began.

“You need to relax, Elle,” Damon whispered, and Ellona blew out a deep breath to calm her tensed nerves.

He was right; she needed to relax. Moreover, she didn’t want Damon worrying about her more than she could clearly tell he was. He was already doing so much for her, and she was beyond gratified to have him in her life.

He was an angel!

Her Angel!

------

The ride finally came to an end at the exact time Damon had said they would arrive.

Ellona sat with him at the front role in court, waiting for her purpose of being there to begin.

Damon could tell she was anxious and was taking everything in her to remain calm. This was why he had suggested that she stay back from today’s verdict and that he would be here in her stead. But she had refused and insisted on being here in person.

Damon had given up, knowing he couldn’t change her mind. The only thing he could do was accompany her to court today, to be here for her.

To be her support.

Ellona’s nails dug into her flesh, her legs seeming to have their own mind because they were restless as her mind ran myriads possibility to the judge’s conclusion.

What would it be?

Would the ones who had hurt her so badly have the last laugh?

Would they be walking free?

The feeling of trepidation was threatening to overwhelm her.

Her fear better not be the case; otherwise, she will carry out her own judgment should the court fail to serve those monsters’ the punishment befitting their crimes.

She won’t sit back and allow their freedom to happen, even if it means she will end up in prison. Her crime would be for the greater good! If this was how her life would turn out in the end, then so be it!

“All rise…!”

The judicial assistant announced, signifying the arrival of the Judge.

Everyone rose to their feet and remained standing until the Judge took her seat. It was an older woman with weird glasses that hung on her nose.

‘Please, let her not be corrupt and do the right thing,’ Ellona prayed internally.

“We are here today on the conviction of one Mr. Mathew Stronghammer and Mr. Caleb Dickson.” The judge began. “Their crimes are the gravest and most inhumane acts that I am despondent to say are very common in our society.” She continued, “But that is why we have the Law. The Law will always serve everyone affected directly or indirectly by those who terrorize our community the necessary justice. No illegal deeds will be condoned in our country. Before we begin, please escort in the prisoners!”

Ellona’s body went rigid when she saw her nightmares being brought inside the courtroom.

Cold sweat began forming on her forehead, her heart rate accelerating as fear, rage, pain and regret all settled within her.

If only she could change the hands of time. But that is nothing anyone has control over.

Nonetheless, if there were even the slightest possibility to alter one mere hour of her life, she would jump at the opportunity!

Damon noticing the woman beside him wasn’t doing so well, leaned closer and wrapped her in his embrace. Her face was buried between his shoulder as he muttered, “It’s ok, Elle. I’m here with you! No harm can come to you here; justice will be served!”

Every one of Damon’s and Ellona’s interactions did not miss Mathe’s gaze. His lips tugged upward ever so slightly as though he found the entire scene amusing. As though he wasn’t about to face probably the hardest decision of his life.

Damon saw this and glared back at the devil. He was also barely holding in his anger for Ellona’s sake. If left to him… he would have long picked up a gun and made sure Mathew’s head was blown up in many pieces.

Damon’s focus was pulled back when he heard her sweet voice.

“Thank you, Damon. I am good now; you can let go,” Ellona whispered to him.

The last thing on Ellona’s mind right now was getting cold feet. Not when her victimizer stood within her reach.

With that thought, Ellona pulled away from Damon, and her gaze instantly landed on Mathew.

She felt as though the air was suddenly knocked out of her lungs as she stared back at his piercing blue eyes. They were evil, wicked and his smirk was nothing good. It was one full of mischief. It was just like how it was the first time she had met him.

Even his current predicament did nothing to falter that smile nor do anything to diminish how he looked so damned good.

He was a devil with the look of an angel!

Ellona’s nails dug deeper than ever before into her flesh to see him grinning at her, bringing back awful memories of that night. The tragic night her life took a spin for the worse, one she would give everything to avoid or at least forget.
