Cyn's POV
pronounced sin
I suppose if I wasn't born a werewolf, I wouldn't believe in their existence. There doesn't seem to be anything magical about this world. Every day has been bland, boring, and blah.
"Hey Cyn, can I walk you to school?" Alex asked me. Alex is my best friend. I'm hoping he turns out to be my mate on my 18th birthday but I'm not sure that will happen.
"Of course!" I answered a little too quickly.
He gave me a wide smile and a pat on the top of my head, ruffling my blonde hair a bit.
"We aren't little kids anymore, stop messing up my hair," I grumbled at him. He simply laughed at me and shrugged.
We walked up to Walker High School, named after Ms. Marilyn Walker, the oldest woman in town. This year she reaches the big 100.
"Looking good, Cyn!" I heard Tucker yell. Ugh, Tucker. He's the resident bad boy of the school and has slept with probably everyone in school. Each week he has a different girlfriend.
"Fuck off Tucker!" I yelled back as I flipped him off. He just laughed in return and continued talking to the stick thin, fake blonde haired Mary, the school queen bitch. Her and Tucker deserve each other.
Everyone in our school was a werewolf, it is one of the few schools in the country that requires wolf blood to enter. I heard this year though that they were going to let in some humans, something about how we needed to learn to get along with others in the real world. I personally didn't care, I just wanted to get good grades so I could get out of bum-fuck, Oregon.
"I'll see you after class Cyn." Alex told me before giving me a kiss on the forehead. I like Alex a lot but I feel that he only sees me like a sister.
"See you later, Alex." I gave him a big hug and then walked into class.
"Girllll, you got it bad!" I heard my best friend Helena call out, then she proceeded to make kissy faces. I scrunched my face up in her direction and then sat down at the desk next to hers.
"Stop it! Everyone will hear!" I hissed at her. She just laughed, "anyone with a brain can tell you are in love with him, he's apparently the only one who didn't get the memo. Don't worry, I'm certain that you two will be mates. You're absolutely perfect for each other, boring, studious and homebodies." She listed off on her fingers. I flicked her forehead and stared at the white board, waiting for the teacher to walk in.
I suddenly heard whispers behind me and I looked up at the door and saw a remarkably handsome boy walk in. He was tall, lean but strong with porcelain skin and blue eyes. His perfectly tousled dirty blonde hair curled slightly above his ears which were pierced. He looked around the room until we made eye contact. His brow slightly raised up and then he walked over to the empty desk next to me.
"Hi, I'm Josh," he said with a slight English accent while putting a hand out to shake mine.
"Um hi, I'm Cyn." I said, grabbing his hand to shake it. He was ice cold. Vampire.
"It's a pleasure, Cyn." He smirked and faced forward right when the teacher walked in.
"Settle down class. I know it's the first day of the new year but as seniors, you already know the drill, homework will be given out anyway." The teacher said. He wrote his name on the whiteboard but I doubt anyone was paying attention. Everyone was busy checking out the vampire.
"How did you end up here, in this school?" Helena whispered to him. He just ignored her and kept looking forward.
She scoffed and sat back in her chair.
"Pay attention everyone." The teacher called out, "we're starting the year off right with a project! Now don't get too comfortable with your friends, partners will be assigned." There was a cacophony of groans in the whole room.
He went through the list, "Helena Maldonado and Aiden Hart."
"Ugh I hate that guy, his breath stinks!" She hissed in my direction. I widened my eyes, urging her loud mouth to quiet down.
"Cynthia Jackson and Joshua Henry." I felt Josh look in my direction before turning back to look forward.
The teacher continued until he finished assigning partners.
"That's it! Now exchange contact info with your partner so you can meet up outside of school to work on the project. Details for the project are listed in your syllabus and you can also go online to the school portal for extra details." The teacher then dismissed us to discuss details in our assigned pairs.
The sounds of squeaking and scratching chairs being moved filled the room. Josh grabbed his chair and sat it next to my desk. Our knees touched under the desk, creating heat from the friction.
"So how long have you been in this boring town, Cyn?" Was the first question he asked.
"My whole life. When did you move here?" I asked, kind of curious.
"Just a few weeks ago. From my understanding, this school just opened up enrollment from all wolves to humans." He said.
"And apparently vampires," I retorted.
He cracked a lazy grin, "and apparently vampires."
I couldn't help but smile back. Maybe he won't be so bad.
The bell rang for the class to end and we all shuffled our chairs back in place. I grabbed my stuff and stood up.
"Hi, Joshua right?" I heard Mary's bitchy voice say.
"It's Josh." He replied.
"So nice to meet you, I'm Mary, I can show you where your next class is." She spoke in a high pitched voice that was grating on my last nerve. I started to walk away when I felt his cold hand on my arm.
"Actually, Cyn was going to show it to me, sorry." He told her. I looked up at him confusedly. Since when did I volunteer to help him?
Mary scoffed and strutted off, swaying her nonexistent hips.
"Damn, I've never seen a flatter ass." He whistled. I couldn't help but giggle.
We exited the classroom and I almost ran right into Alex. "Oh hi, Alex!" I greeted loudly.
Josh just stood next to me awkwardly. "Oh right, this is Josh, Josh is this my friend Alex."
"Best friend," he corrected. "Yes, best friend," I rolled my eyes.
"Say, you wouldn't happen to be best friends, right?" Josh smirked. I felt inclined to slap his arm to reprimand him. He played like it hurt and then cracked a wide grin.
"Hand me your schedule and I'll show you your next class." I told him.
The rest of the school day went normally. Alex and I met up between every class with Josh stuck to my side like a leech.
After school ended I waited to meet up with Alex to walk home but he didn't show up. After ten minutes I went in search of him, worried. I rounded the corner of one of the halls and caught him with his tongue down Jessica's throat. I felt tears well in my eyes, so I turned on my heel and ran before he could see me.
"Whoa, where's the fire?" Josh said when I ran straight into him. "Hey wait, why are you crying? Was it that flat assed bitch?"
"No, it wasn't Mary. Don't worry about it. I have to get home." I moved to pass him but he gripped my elbow and held me back.
"I'll take you home if you want, unless you drove." He said.
"I walked, and yes, please." I told him. The quicker I get home, the quicker I could drown my sorrows in some ice cream and television. He nodded and grabbed my hand. His cool one in my hot one felt nice.
I gave him directions to the pack house so he could drop me off.
"Do all of you really stay here?" He asked.
"Yes, there are a few who don't, but it's large enough to house everyone." I told him.
He nodded and parked in front of the compound.
"Thank you for the ride, I'll see you tomorrow Josh." I told him as I exited. He smiled at me and waved.
I hopped out of the car and ran inside and straight to my room. I stripped and showered before dressing in my nightgown to crawl into bed. I closed my eyes, willing the image of Alex and Jessica sucking face to leave my brain.
*knock, knock, knock*
"Yes?" I cleared my throat and called out.
"It's me, can I come in?" I hear Helena at the door.
"Yes." I answered.
She walked in and tsk'd. "What happened?" She asked.
"I walked into Alex and Jessica making out." I mumbled into my pillow.
She gasped dramatically and sat down on the end of my bed.
"I'm going to kill him!" She nearly yelled.
"No, don't. Besides we are just friends." I told her.
"But you guys are perfect for each other! Not dumb ass Jessica who has more tits than brains." She exclaimed. I couldn't help but giggle at that comment.
"It's fine. I'm fine." I told her, wiping away a few stray tears.
"You're not fine, and that's ok. Let's watch some trashy tv and eat ice cream, ok? And tomorrow we're going to make sure you're dressed hot as fuck." She grinned. I smiled and leaned my head on her shoulder. Helena is the best friend I could've asked for.
