Another day at work, another day to thrive in order to bring food to the table. I refused to use my certificates and accomplishments to get me a job; I was determined to live on my own that I even disowned a part of myself. My past, my previous memories alongside all the effort I have poured these last years, I dismissed them all as if they never existed. I did not want to have anything to do with my family, because the life I used to live was not mine, to begin with. It was all their doing.
"Hey, why are you out of it today?" My work colleague, Sienna asked me, "I have a bad feeling, I just remembered something that I dislike," Unfortunately, whenever I have a bad feeling, something bad really happens. "Want to go back home early? I can take your place for the day,"
Sienna was a good person, not a friend; I do not have the luxury of making friends since I was a little kid. The first lesson I was taught in life is that friends are nothing but weakness; of course, I did need to live the lesson practically so it would be engraved in my memory forever. Sienna counted me as her friend and even though I did not want to count her as one, she ended up being someone that I care about. She ended up becoming... my weakness.
"No, it is okay, do not worry about me. People are asking for you, go..." I instructed her, I watched as she gave me her back and headed to take a client's order.
Zion's POV:
This mansion is as dark as it seems, we were supposed to meet with my business partner today but her father kept making excuses, "Unfortunately, she is away on a business trip, she is so busy these days," her father, Mr. Marcus informed me. "There are rumors circulating around, sir. If they are true then allow me the honor of retrieving your daughter,"
It is pretty known that Zoe Marcus is a rebel; she would create all sorts of trouble just to mess with her own family. Lately, people believe that she has escaped the mansion and hiding somewhere to dodge my bullet. The bullet of marriage...
"I am busy; I do not have time to deal with her. I believe you are the same as me, leave this task to my men," Obviously, his men failed their task already, "I can always find time for my soon-to-be Fiancée. In addition, if we don't solve this now, much more time will be lost later," I explained.
"As you wish then, I expect the engagement date to not be postponed again then," he commented before standing up, he ordered his men to bring me the details of her past whereabouts. Impressive, I got to say, she is constantly on the move, never stays more than a month in one place. I was reading her resume and background check on my way to the company, I wondered about the reason why she chose to work in restaurants, convenience stores, and motels instead of working with her degree.
Maybe she did it so she would not be leaving any trace of her location, well, her lovely fun time will be ending soon and I will be the one witnessing it.
Zoe's POV:
The feeling did not subside though... I think it would be better for me to move, my work hours were about to end anyway, I gathered my stuff and headed to the director's humble office, "Are you leaving early today?" early he says? It is just five minutes before my time is up, "Yes, sir, I am afraid to inform you that I won't be coming back," I already informed him that I would be working only for a month before I quit so this should not be a surprise to him.
"Only three weeks have passed, Mrs. Diana, I don't think I can only pay you for three weeks,"
Ah, I see where this is going, son of a bitch. He was calling me by my fake name; I have a lot of these that I sometimes forget what my real name is. Instead of trying to deal with him rationally, I punched him in the face, he fell on the ground clenching his bleeding nose and that is when I opened his first drawer, I took my three weeks' worth of money and exited the restaurant without saying goodbye to Sienna.
I wanted to give her pride a reason to forget about me instead of worrying needlessly about where I could be. The best thing about the places I choose is that they give you a small room for you to live in and they deduct the living fees from your paycheck so I did not have anywhere else to pick up my stuff from, all I have to do now is find somewhere else to go. I was walking aimlessly in the streets while reading the newspapers for any job offers, I usually do this before moving but this time it all happened quickly.
I heard the sound of a falling tin can; I did not even look behind me before I started running as fast as I could. Little did I know that some huge dudes whose shoulders managed to occupy the dark alley’s view blocked the way in front of me. This time I glanced behind me to see the most disgusting person I know, my bodyguard, Nelson.
"Hey, sweetie. Did you miss me?" He started, last time, I succeeded in running away from him because I promised to spend the night with him and just when we were in bed, I injected him with a soporific and escaped the scene. I will not be that lucky this time around, "Hey there, I guess last time's offer won't work out today, right?" I was testing the water, "Well babe, there will be no offer, I will bring you back with me today because if I did not, I would die instead,"
You would die in both ways, whether I go back or not, you are messing with the wrong person, I thought. It was time for me to kill, I hate being forced to do this but unfortunately, I have no other option.
